First off, that Oliver Anthony may claim to be "dead center politically," but based on the company he keeps he's not. Afaik, he has not said about the endorsements from mostly right-leaning people. Also this song is #73 on Apple Music now.

Pop music in 2023 is literally on a broken scale, we don’t even know what can become a hit and just because you’re a big name doesn’t guarantee you’ll have a big hit anymore.

Loved the new Karol G album, had a nice remix of two old hit singles of her’s too on there.

Always wanted Karol G to score a #1, same with Natti Natasha and Becky G.

Let's not make this Oliver Anthony thing another Aldean situation, yeah? There's no scandal here that I'm aware of so hopefully it'll just percolate for a couple of days then drop off like every other (actually) MAGAcore song did. The right has no reason to go ape on this song like 'Small Town' when there's no outrage from the left so let's not do that again.
I want this to be Taylor's week and since it looks like Drake didn't drop after all this is her chance.

On track to be worst year of pop music since 2003? or is it 2004? Was tempted to say 2018 but this year is definitely worse than 2018.

On track to be worst year of pop music since 2003? or is it 2004? Was tempted to say 2018 but this year is definitely more stagnant than 2018. 2003 & 2004 weren’t that bad, but that’s probably just my bias for hip-hop and R&B. Think you need to go back to the first two years of the 90s for “worst year of pop music” title. As of us being nearly 30% into the decade , the 2020s are on track for another worst decade ever title, this time the “worst decade for popular music”. Which is perfectly in tune with all the other shit that has happened since 2020 outside of music. Now say we’re 60% into the decade and the pop scene is still like this with old songs clogging up the charts and nothing else happening, then it ultimately claims the title, not even shit changing in the last years can redeem it imo.

Yeah true. I'm quite agnostic to Taylor Swift, but I would suggest to her fans that saying she's as big as Michael Jackson or The Beatles will get severe backlash a lot of the time. On Pulse you might get just one person, but try saying this on the Daily Mail comments section, you'll get 500 dislikes and loads of ridicule. Enjoy her success, stay humble, and her success is speaking for itself. I say this from personal experience. One of the reasons I dislike Lady Gaga is just because, after 2 singles and her being famous for like 4 months, people were saying she's revolutionised pop music, that she's the biggest artist in the past 35 years, that she's destined to be the new Madonna. It was so over-the-top to me and I felt it was unfair. So, strategically speaking my advice to Taylor fans is to avoid comparisons in success to past icons or else it might cause people to dislike her. And I'm rooting for Cruel Summer to be #1 this week because it'd be iconic. Although I love the guitar song from the first page, it's amazing. And I wouldnt mind Fast Car either. Last Night is a song I like but it's had it's time now, I hope something else can get the title. Taylor’s been huge for far more than two singles and four months, so if you can’t see how it’s different then idk what to tell you. Also, you’re basically saying you didn’t like Gaga because everyone else loved her, which really isn’t a rational reason. Taylor has been huge for more than two single and more than four months? Oh? Really? I did not know that lol. You didn't understand my post. It was actually intended as kind words of advice for Taylor fans, not negative at all. I'll try and re-word it in a different (and simpler) way: Do not say, in public, that Taylor Swift is as big as The Beatles, even if it is true. It will make people hate her. Trust me. There are LOTS of irrational people out there. If you want her imperial phase to be over ASAP, go around saying that Taylor Swift is bigger than The Beatles. It will cause her huge backlash, I guarantee it. Shall I go on another forum/website, claim Taylor Swift is bigger than the Beatles, take some screenshots and post them back here to prove it?

I wonder how many songs Karol G can get on the Hot 100 this time. Yeah she’ll get less than her last album but tbf this album has 10 songs and not 17. Also hope Bad Idea Right makes the top 10.

Live version of Fast Car is up. Both versions are discounted on iTunes too. I know why people want "CS" to hit #1, but Swift has #1s and will again, while this is probably the best chance Tracy Chapman has at a #1 (even if via writing) so I hope it somehow pulls it off.

I mean, I guess if both songs could somehow tie for #1 this week that would be crazy cool, but the odds of that are so slim that I wouldn't even conceive of it?

I really like Olivia's new song, her attitude is perfect
Seeing what is happening with Taylor is so interesting and insane, I don't love 'Cruel Summer' but it potentially going #1 is one of those special moments in chart history and pop culture, same for her 30+ entries on US Spotify all while basically handling 3/4 eras at once in the middle of a huge tour, her work ethic is unhinged

If you think about it, Tracy doesn't need a number 1 either, Fast Car was a worldwide success back in 1988. It would be nice if Luke got her a number 1 though.

Seems like this is "push week" for Luke Combs. Country fans know what that means. He's going for max chart points with the 69 cents discount and new acoustic version.
Team Taylor has a country radio background. Maybe she's willing to play nice and let Luke get his 1 week at #1? She'll take #1 next week and beyond. A bit risky strategy though since you never know if Drake would release his new album next week and beat out Cruel Summer for #1.
I'm surprised she still hasn't released a live Music Video yet (from Eras tour). She's ahead of Luke on sales, Spotify, Apple Music already. Airplay is only slightly under. The biggest deficit is 2 million less Youtube streams than Fast Car. CS will easily be #1 this week with just a minimal effort live music video. Heck, even a 69 cents discount may do it since Taylor and Luke are projected to both have about 235 chart points this week. Basically a tie.
Note: As for "Last Night", Team Morgan already got what they wanted breaking multiple Billboard records with 16 weeks #1 (biggest solo hit ever on Hot 100; biggest hit of the decade). I think they're ready to pull the plug and move on to next pop single. It's Luke vs Taylor this week and beyond.

Since old songs can come back, wish there was a campaign for Summer Rain by Belinda Carlisle to make a yearly return. :)

it would have made sense if fast car went number 1 earlier, but it feels right for cruel summer to be #1 at the end of summer, which is now.

If it were Tracy's version (which is ten times superior, there should've just been a revival of the standard) I'd be rooting, but as it stands "Cruel Summer" all the way.
