OH GOD NO. I love Mariah but am so over "AIWFC". The last thing I wanna see is the same Christmas songs clogging up and making the charts hella boring even longer. If she hits extra weeks this year she's gonna start promoting in August next year. -_-

Why couldnβt βOh Santaβ or something else get some attentionβ¦ Of course I love βAIWFCIYβ, but come on sheβs got so many other Christmas songs I would rather hear played to death this upcoming season.

Well, wellβ¦ The Beatles might get another 10 after all! π Yes, please. Come through, Beatles fans! It was disappointing, to me, that "Real Love" made its debut and peaked at No.11 in 1996. Edit: Just read that in lovely U.K. it's bound to become their 18th No.1. The Physical sale totals are unknown right now, it's possible that it could chart higher than #10.

I hope Mariah gets more weeks at No.1 with "All I Want for Christmas Is You." I would also love for King George's "Last Christmas" to hit No.1 on The Hot 100 but somehow that seems quite unlikely.

Amazon shows you stats like "5K+ bought in past month" for items and if you look up all the different colored vinyl configurations for "Now And Then" it's sold at least 13k just through Amazon. It's also sold out at Wal-Mart and Target's websites. The pure sales number could be pretty significant.

If "All II Want..." doesn't have enough points for top 25 for week ending today week, then it will have seven weeks on the Hot 100 this year,, same as last.

Also, since the CMA awards, βNeed A Favor,β βFast Carβ, and βWhite Horseβ have increased in sales on ITunes. We may see an increase on the upcoming charts bcuz of it.

Dua has perfected the art of making these good-but-not-quite-epic pop songs that seem destined for a long slow burn on the charts. I doubt this will hit #1 but I could see a dance the night style run.

Agreed x 100 on the AIWFC fatigue. It was exciting the first year it finally hit #1, but now itβs just boring. I think other classics like Brenda and George will eventually gain on her and snatch a week at the top.

Iβm beyond over the song at this point. The only hope is that Billboard bans old Christmas songs from charting. Thereβs already a Holiday chart for that.

Itβs the same songs taking up space. βKill Billβ could have ruled for 4-6 weeks if it werenβt for that.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. 2 song charts. One that's "hot" (new songs, no holiday tracks, stronger recurrent rules) and one that's "comprehensive" (every song regardless of age, no recurrent rules).
They are trying to have both sides of the equation in one chart and it's meant years of asterisks on chart positions and records.

They're representative of what people are streaming/buying/hearing, which is kind of the point of the chart?

Yes. The same holiday songs return annually, peak round the same positions they attained the year prior, etc. There's nothing organic about it; it's expected, and also that the same ones will hit the top 10 or close to it. With no rules in place for them charting outside of recurrent ones, is it really fair for the biggest hits to keep racking up points year in and year out, simply because of the nature of the songs? Me thinks not. It made it exciting for a time, though it does get tiresome.
Having said that, I liked seeing the Vince Guaraldi songs finally hit the chart.

On the contrary, I'd say it's probably the most organic time of the year for charts because during the holidays, people are more traditionalist when it comes to things like music and habits. For many, holiday music is comfort music and for a few weeks (or two months lol), people return to them purely out of enjoyment of the songs themselves. With streaming, the chart can now measure that. Is it fair? Why not? I can understand the argument of it being unfair from a new & active perspective, as badrobot mentioned just a few posts up, and think having 2 charts (one with no recurrent/removal rules and the other focused purely on newer and active songs, with a more aggressive rule) is a great suggestion. But not counting songs because they appear every year is ridiculous. We might as well stop counting songs after they spend 2 months in the top 10 because it's tiresome and repetitive. It's like, we get it. People like "Cruel Summer". It's time to remove it from the chart because it's not fair to the other songs people aren't listening to as much.

I think the question of whether the Christmas songs are organic or not is a tricky one. If people are seeking out individual songs, then yes, it is. But if people are just playing a preselected Christmas playlist from Amazon or Spotify, which I understand to be what many people commonly do, then it's no more organic than listing to the radio. Of course, it's difficult if not impossible to distinguish between the two, and whether organic or not the songs are still being played and thus consumed. Probably the most organic measure was in the download era, when everyone, and not just fan armies, bought downloads and they'd sell hundreds of thousands of copies a week.
