pop was very nice to this one considering it has virtually no streams to back it up. let's hope she really bounces back next era I mean, after this, I donβt think she will be bouncing back in the U.S. Eh I think itβs very doable. Itβs not like she had a Katy-esque widely publicized downfall. There werenβt any big missteps or humiliations. The era just came and went without making much noise. Dua is still a big name in the US with a reputation as a hit maker. She had a #1 radio hit less than a year ago. She can bounce back, but she has to strike right away, like before next summer.

Departed the Hot 100 this week after 18 weeks there; the album also drops out of the BB200. She's on some beach as usual sooooo... Dua when she found out of the album and latest single left the US charts:

She realized that it's time to schedule another one-off concert somewhere to pay the rent.

At the same time, I could just as easily see her being one of those βof that specific eraβ successes. The 90s had a ton of these with Jewel, Hootie, Alanis, Ace of Base etc where they were massive for a few years and then completely fell off a cliff commercially and felt kinda like a relic of a certain time frame. I can very easily see that being Dua for the late 10s/early 20s stretch tbh. But weβll see.

^And of course Paula Abdul, probably the example that tracks the closest to Dua (though I hope Ms. Lipa comes back and serves a long career!)

Paula is also always a bit of an outlier since she basically quit music before we could see for sure if her success was over. Though obviously her last album certainly indicated that. I think Ace of Base has some parallels with Dua. Both dance-pop acts that served a couple of the absolute biggest hits of the era in the U.S. that were very slow-burn climbers, and both acts were even bigger in Europe. Dua has already lasted longer than them for relevancy of course with a few more hits to her name, but if she does fall off after this then I kinda see her as the AoB of this gen.

It seems like itβs kind of stabilising? Only lost 35 spins today and gained audience..?
