I think all 3 sound like FN… the first 2 just more like they would have been left off. Her debut and FN are examples of dance-pop to me that are totally distinct sounds and styles. Everything from her post-debut has been in the same vein imo.

Honestly, I would have loved to see her putting out something more like Espresso this era. That’s dance pop that’s distinct from either of her albums so far.

I think what's funny is that there is so much contempt for Dua right now on Twitter. Stans are saying that this is her 'flop' era. Like.... come on now. This era is going to do just fine. Whie it might not reach the same heights as FN, it's still had a strong start. Houdini just passed 400 million streams, Training Season is getting the 'Physical' treatment and now Illusion is a very solid pop song with an incredible visual. I think Illusion has a shot at being her next big big hit, it's appeal is so wide and it's so hooky.

This. There is no world where "Houdini" and "Training Season" sound anything like FN. They would fit nowhere on that album, come on now, lol. Not in terms of production, instrumentals or the overall vibe. This and "DTN" are definitely in that same soundscape though.

Really hate to say it, but I think I’ve burned on this already? Yikes… I really thought this was gonna be more “the one” for me this era based on initial reaction. She just really is not hitting anywhere near FN for me this time (or debut for that matter).

Even in Europe it opened noticeably lower than the first two singles. Such a weird rollout. Sabrina Carpenter out debuting Dua Lipa on the UK Chart has got to raise some red flags for the label.

But at this point they just have to drop the album and make the best of it before they can recalibrate whatever's lacking this time around.
