This era has been so mishandled - and it doesn't have the pandemic to be blamed. Two rushed singles and an album release in the middle of Taylor frenzy for a lackluster top 5 debut, she really deserves better :(

She needs to be performing these songs places. She is not at the stage of her career where she can rely on the song itself to smash, you have to actually promote it.

Whatever they tried to do with Training Season is the real question. But honestly I don't think that was meant to smash no matter how long they let it flounder through the charts.

This is a cute bop and I think it could grow into a summer smasher.

Dua's music is casually appealing to me, she's got a unique voice and the danceability of the production is often ace. I feel the same about artists like Kylie Minogue. What's missing for me is a connection to the lyrics, which are typically on the fluff side. Nothing wrong with fluff, it's pop music after all. But unless the melody and/or tone of the song really hits, there's nothing to latch onto for me. Houdini was just ok, and Training Season didn't do it for me at all. This, to me, as the most appeal of the three, and its very summery.

I have a feeling I'm going to like the album tracks, and hopefully the singles thus far will click as part of the album experience.

Good performance. I noticed the backing vocalists were either a smidge too loud, slightly delayed or something during the live broadcast though. It just sounded “off”.

I can't help but have a feeling this will stall in the top 15, maybe peter out by the it's at number 12. It just doesn't feel ubiquitous enough to do any better than that.

If that happens, it's best to jump the ship as soon possible by moving on to the next singles. These Walls seems to be the focus of team Dua, and while I like it a lot, I think Maria has the best shot at being a hit.

If it were up to me, Maria would've led the album followed by either Happy For You or These Walls. All of them are very pop and radio-friendly, but not disco-pop like Future Nostalgia or Houdini and Training Season. Illusion would've still been the third single, to placate the Future Nostalgia fans, but going for different-sounding leads would've probably drummed up much more anticipation for the era.

It’s gotta be Falling Forever if this stalls. That hook has been constantly in my head in a way none of these other 3 have been initially at all. And it’s totally different sounding from the first 3 singles, which she desperately needs.

All that said, I wouldn’t give up on this if I were her team. She’s had too much thrown at the wall already this era for them to keep throwing more so fast. Ride this out, keep pushing it. Summer could help this song. Don’t move onto a 4th single until it’s clear this has run its course entirely. The last thing she needs now is to come across so desperate if they jump ship quickly here.
