This is the shocking one I’m surprised 91X didn’t touch. They touched none of this album. And I’m confused why, sounded up their alley. Great stuff

40. Red Hot Chili Peppers - The Drummer
This was interesting. Really dug the piano/ organ throughout the verses.

39. The Moss - Insomnia
Barely misses my top 40. I enjoyed the music more than the vocals.

38. Hozier - Eat Your Young
Not really into this slower Indiepop anymore. Plus I never have cared for Hozier.

37. Wilderado - Surefire
During no part does this song excite me in any way, but it is pleasant and melodic enough.

36. Beck and Phoenix - Odyssey
This kind of Indiepop is the stuff melodic dream are made of. These vocals go perfect like Peanut Butter and Banana.

35. Linkin Park - Lost
A post humous song I don't think the Alternative Rock world needed. It spent way too long in the chart, and stopped other songs from going top 10. I was never a Linkin Park fan, and this song did little to change that, but I thought Chester sounded amazing with Stone Temple Pilots. In other news I am kinda digging "Friendly Fires", but that doesn't mean I want it in the top 5 all year long either.

34. Inhaler - Love Will get You There.
That intro reminded me of Jet ,and I would slot the song higher if that bassline had been the center of the song, but this is a good song for the list. I think we could have done a little better with its rank.

33. Fall Out Boy - Hold Me Like Grunge
Been years since I loved a song from this band this much. That guitar hook is genius. Last time I really cared for a song from this band was the one with Demi Lovato's cameo vocals, and the last time I gave this band top 5 action was with "American Suitehearts"

32. 100 gecs - Hollywood
This sounds like the obnoxious, loud ,garbage you all claim to hate ,so why it is this high baffles me? Give this to banger blink 182 and we would have a different #100. You can't even hear what the chick is saying, and you don't wanna hear what the guy sounds like. The guitars sound fake. Those ranks look like one either likes this or straight out condemns it. Also who tanks songs based on weirdness?. That's hilarious. Anyway my Tank is clear.

31. Sports Team - The Drop
One of the few charting on the actual Alt charts that I though was so awesome I had to chart as well. A banger from start to finish.

30. The 1975 - Oh Caroline
The kings of aesthetic, melodic, wonderjams. Easy top 30 for me. BTW this song is mentioned in one of my favorite new songs of 2024 that is on the Alternative Rock chart now.

29. Silversun Pickups - The Nest
The day had to finally come when I would rank a song from this band higher than the rest of you.

28. Dayglow - Then It All Goes Away
Another great melodic wonderjam I was proud to rank high. Damn four great songs in a row before the top 20. You guys are ruthless.

27. Lovejoy - Call Me What You
One of the few new 2024 acts where I enjoyed both music and vocals. Good banger. Had some early The Killers vibes.

26. Bad Omens - Just Pretend.
Straight out don't like it. Far from my Rock groove.

Beautiful, aesthetic vocals. need I say more?

24. Death cab For Cutie - Pepper
Thought I would rank this higher. Good song, but I like their faster stuff way better.

23. The 1975 - I'm In Love With You
Just misses my top 10. The band has the uncanny talent to bring the magic of the 80's back into modern times. I also would have given "Happiness" a Top 20 rank.

22. The National - Tropic Morning News
This is a certified PULSE hard-on band. I like their songs enough for a few listens, but they don't have repeat play value for me.

21. Lana Del Rey - say Yes To Heaven
Same thing goes for this artist. Pleasant songs, but none I could listen to 5 times in a row.

20. Young The Giant - The Walk Hone
This was nice. I was on a Young The Giant high for a few years.

19.Blur - The Narcissist
Another rather pleasant listen. I still crave more adrenaline. Or at least an 80's vibe. I think "Barbaric" should have been the hit. Has that 80's Motown-like vibe.

18. White Reaper - pages
This was alright. I enjoy their Powerpop sound more. I think we might do better with "Smog Machine". That's another song I have recently rediscovered.

17. Turnstile - Holiday
While I enjoyed and charted "Mystery" more. I like seeing louder songs get upgraded on this lists. I believe this is the loudest we are getting on this RD.

16. Nothing But Thieves - Overcome
Far from my favorite from this band, but at least they are on the right track again.

15. Wet Leg - Angelica
Cool Psychedelic vibe here. I'll have to hear something better than "Wet Dream" to chart them again, but they do have some great vocals.

14. Jean Dawson - Sick Of It
The music was good, but I wasn't a fan of his vocal delivery. The song was loud and melodic. A good combo, but he still somehow managed to sound like an angry rapper in the song. You know this guy grew up over here. His experimental music style isn't for me.

13. MisterWives - Nosebleeds
Yup easily my #1 song. This one has some prefect New Wave, Alt and straight out Pop styles that the band excels in. Alternative Formats really need to appreciate a band like this way more. Every song on that new album of theirs could be a single. #13 is a great showing on a list of 100 songs.

12. Foo Fighters - Rescued
Great song. They still have the Alternative Rock magic.

11. Gorillaz, Tame Impala, Bootie Brown - New Gold
I anticipated Bootie Brown to be a chick before I listened to the song. Too bad it wasn't, but I still don't care for this rapping(crazy how one P less changes the whole meaning of this word) music style.



Cool top 10. Awesome to see songs from Ghost and Queens of The Stone Age still rolling in here.

70. Beach Weather - "Sex, Drugs, Etc." (my ranking: #82) 
This was just a bunch of nothing. It never has made a strong impression on me. It's not horrific, but if there's a definition of a "5.5 out of 10" song, this is it. 

69. Bush - "More Than Machines" (my ranking: #51) 
Rawr. 

68. Weathers f/John The Ghost - "ALL CAPS" (my ranking: #65) 
This would have been lower if the main singer from The Maine wasn't on this. There was a nifty trick with having him sing the first verse, but otherwise it's on the generic side. I don't dislike it, though. 

67. d4vd - "Romantic Homicide" (my ranking: #73) 
I actually think this guy is really talented and I've liked most of his other songs more than this one. 

66. Tame Impala - "Wings of Time" (my ranking: #79) 
Feels like somebody asked A.I. to write a Tame Impala song. 

65. New West - "Those Eyes" (my ranking: #80) 
The lyrics are very sweet but the performance and instrumental nearly put me to sleep. 

64. Mike Shinoda & Kailee Morgue - "In My Head" (my ranking: #44) 
Mike Shinoda yell-rapping will never get old to me, I'm sorry. I did grow off this one a bit as the year went on, but I still do like it. 

63. Barns Courtney - "Supernatural" (my ranking: #77)
He's done better than this. Hell, a good example of such is on the Alt chart right now. "Young In America" is a banger. 

62. The Used - "Giving Up" (my ranking: #52) 
Not a bad surprise return by this veteran act! Feels like it needed a little bit more to be truly special, but it was nice to hear them where they belonged instead of being a square peg on Active Rock. 

61. K.flay - "Raw Raw" (my ranking: #94) 
I have never vibed with K.Flay and probably never will, sorry.

60. The Smashing Pumpkins - "Beguiled" (my ranking: #5) 
I had a feeling this would be the first of my top 10 to go, just surprised it was this early. I've always enjoyed it when the Pumpkins go heavy - Billy Corgan's vocals have indeed gotten froggy over the years (first getting obvious all the way back to Machina in 2000!), but heavy songs like this one do disguise that to a degree and the "meathead riff" is both aesthetically pleasing but more complex than it lets on. I suppose a more jaded person to this kind of sound than I would call it "smart buttrock" lol. 

59. Blue October - "Down Here Waiting" (my ranking: #49) 
And now we have "good" Blue October. This isn't quite up there with their best songs but this is definitely an enjoyable song, and I thought the EDM fusion with alt-rock actually kinda worked. The lyrics are messy though, which lowered my ranking down a bit. 

58. Royal Blood - "Pull Me Through" (my ranking: #23)
I have no idea why they made this the radio single; almost every song on the album was better than this one. If anything, this was the experimental change-of-pace track. It has its place on a full album listen (and sounds better in that capacity), but on the radio it's surprisingly dull for Royal Blood. I think this is a solid track regardless and RB is in fine form, but sending this to radio was a mistake, and it's obvious how much damage this one did due to Warner never bothering to follow it up. 

57. Iration - "Daytrippin" (my ranking: #66) 
Kinda crazy that these guys have been sending to Alt radio for over a decade and this is the first song that got traction, lol. It had its place as a summer-y song but quickly collapsed when fall came. I've heard better from them, but this was a nice change of pace on my key Alt list. 

56. YUNGBLUD - "Tissues" (my ranking: #68)
I think I underranked this one a little, but I think the reason why it fell this low was because of the vocal delivery being a little on the obnoxious side. Nice use of a well-known drum hook by The Cure as the percussion, though, and I'm not going to complain about Robert Smith getting a few more royalties.

But even my #39 got heavy play on my DaveFM playlist this year, racking up 85 spins according to last.fm, so all of these are songs I enjoy and would be happy to see win. However, I have to support my #2 for as long as possible! 

My prediction for the order of leaving:

Burning, Paper Machete, Tonight, Running Out of Time, Love From the Other Side, Ghosts Again, This is Why, Not Strong Enough, The Perfect Pair, Mary on a Cross (yes, I'm predicting this will be a surprise winner due to its huge cross-over in the mainstream).

Good start! I definitely get the appeal of Paper Machete but I'm not *in love* with it (though also I just don't listen to QOTSA much in general)

Love From The Other Side is definitely one of their best songs in a long time. That being said, I wouldn't say it's top 10 good here.
