They should send the AI version to CHR/Pop. Nothing on the new album sounds like CHR/Pop material.

I thought she would pick something radio friendly and upbeat like I Can Do It With a Broken Heart or My Boy Only Breaks His Favourite Toys

“My Boy Only Breaks His Favourite Toys” is the obvious radio hit IMO although I’d personally love to see them push “Guilty As Sin”. It’s the kind of song I see myself blasting in the car with the windows down in the summer.
Very underwhelmed by “Fortnight” being the pick although I think we all knew it ultimately would because of the Post feature. Hopefully they prove me wrong, but I just don’t see it being a huge Pop radio hit. Will probably have a good run at HAC / AC though.

Why would they pick this as the first single heading into summer? Literally sounds like Snow on the Beach but with Posty instead of Lana. Not sure how well it will hold up. Def will be interesting. This will probably do worse than Cardigan, barely scraping the top 20 here and top 10 at HAC.

I doubt it does worse than "Cardigan". IMO, Taylor has the most radio momentum she's had since the '1989' era plus Posty is still relatively a big name at radio despite some of his recent stuff underperforming. While I don't see it being an "Anti-Hero" or "Cruel Summer" level hit, I think it'll still be a moderate one.

I'm thinking this will do Is It Over Now numbers, a forced push to the top on pop and a more organic HAC rise. This is still a very accessible synth-pop song. Don't know why people think it is going to underperform so severely.

This would not have been my pick for the single, but I guess Hozier is about to hit #1 so maybe this will do okay.

There's a CD single available for "Fortnight" too edit: there was Great, more landfill. So wasteful, for a song that will likely debut at #1 anyway.

Haven’t listened but even if it free falls on streaming like Cardigan or Willow it is likely going top 3 on pop. Name alone can get songs like Houdini and Used to Be Young near the top. Post still does well on pop radio with Chemical, neither a streaming hit nor a super pop friendly song, going top 10. Also I remember how Anti-Hero was not expected to do well on radio, although I doubt this is as catchy.

Pop radio is fickle enough that they could very well give it another cardigan/willow run if it really is not radio material like people are saying.
I kinda don't get why she would suddenly go back to the forest of radio unfriendly material after the string of hits she's had since Anti-Hero. But I'm yet to hear the song to see if the reactions are accurate.

It would be wild if we are gonna repeat history here, where this LWYMMD’s meteoric start on radio, payola push to the top, and then absolute freefall coming off of her stratospheric 1989 era high (having not actually heard it, just these reactions).

I feel like her single choices this era (after the lead obviously) are down to:
"My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys" "I Can Do It With A Broken Heart" "Down Bad" "The Alchemy"
I kinda wanna see "The Tortured Poets Department" released dog line and all as I LOVE the 80s movie vibe it has and would love to see a video. 😍

This would not have been my pick, but it eventually sticks in your head. It will do well, but will not be a “Cruel Summer” smash. Thinking more “Lavendar Haze.”

It's a bit one-note, but the melody of the chorus gets stuck in your head after those first few listens. Most definitely a grower, which isn't necessarily the best thing as a single because a song needs to grab the listener's attention immediately otherwise it turns into a channel changer and radio will respond accordingly. The album has no radio bops. lol

"Why would the biggest artist in the world challenge pop radio when she could bag an easy hit?!" Radio needs Taylor more than she needs them at this point. I personally think this song is really nice and will likely grow on those that are 'meh' towards it after the first couple listens. It's got a nice melody and there's nothing particularly jarring about it. "My Boy Only Breaks His Favorite Toys" needs to be the second single.

I would personally be surprised to see this make the top 10 on pop radio. A cardigan/willow run seems much more likely. Although from a quality perspective, this is no cardigan or willow IMO. Im always here for her success though and would love to be proven wrong. Im definitely team ICDIWABH and Down Bad becoming singles.

This is the woman/her team who spent the entirety of two smash packed albums passing them up as singles, along with the most obvious smash of all-time. So poor lead single choice would be far from shocking from her (lest we also forget they were wanting to push Slut! from TV until streaming said absolutely not).

I don't think this (or the album) is nearly as uncommercial as people are making it out to be. It is a pretty low-key track, but the production makes it way more accessible to pop than cardigan/willow (and come on, this is nothing like Snow On The Beach, lol).

Clearly this WILL be the single, but why not impact radio starting 4/19? Would they dare reconsider if another song emerges as the clear favorite out the box this weekend?
