As a Taylor stan, I do think it's iconic how she was able to occupy the entire top 10 again, HOWEVER, as a chart fanatic each and every album bomb (no matter the artist) has angered me more and more. I just hate seeing all the other big hits collapse bc of 1-week album songs flooding the top 10 (and the rest of the Hot 100, too). I just wish Billboard would change the rules so things like this don't happen anymore (which I know they won't). It makes the charts look tacky. Idk, I just wish there was something that can be done to prevent these ludicrous weeks that completely ruin the chart runs of more well-balanced hits. How does it make it look tacky if it reflects the weeks top songs? It is the same thing people say at Christmas... I want the charts to reflect what people are currently consuming in that week without a bunch of restrictions. The Hot 100 should always reflect that. This is why there are a number of other charts people can enjoy. Additionally, other musicians can learn to play the game and not release their music around Taylor as well either. This is a common practice in other entertainment industries of TV, movies, etc. You see the release calendar and you release accordingly or risk getting lost in the shuffle.

I’d say 25 is still bigger. Adele at her peak was crossing over to virtually everyone. Taylor, while undeniably massive, seems to have an overwhelmingly huge fan base audience that powers her success. Yes she crosses over to casual listeners too, there’s no denying that, but Adele’s peak I think is a notch above, although Adele didn’t sustain it. Lest anyone think I’m being negative against Taylor, I think it is pretty fair to say Taylor’s overall career has made her the most successful commercial artist in history (at least in the US, I don’t know if this dominance is worldwide), perhaps second only to the Beatles. Adele just happened to have a once-in-a-generation mega peak that no one has surpassed. Most of what you said is correct except for this part:” Taylor, while undeniably massive, seems to have an overwhelmingly huge fan base audience that powers her success.” She literally has the biggest audience numbers on all 3 platforms, Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon music as reported last Year. So If a normal artist has a 1:10 fan-to-casual proportions, maybe it’ll be 2:10-3:10 for her? But obviously vast majority of her listens are casuals as well. Cus if it’s true that “most of her listeners are fans”, then given Spotify revealed that midnights had an 8 million unique listeners in the US on its debut day alone, then she’d sell a lot more than 1.1M physical copies for midnights. She’d WISH she’d mostly propelled by fans in that case.this is just some sad brain dead twitter coping argument that got spread around and no one with a brain disputed it. And not only the math never adds up, it is illogically fundamentally: how is an artist who was able to convert more people into fans, NOT impressive than artists who are around for some time and failed to garner a big base? How It is more impressive that your career hinges on whether people feel like giving a fucj about you this year vs. the artist who has ensured they will be successful for over 20 years? Almost of these dim witted twitter arguments are so stupid that it doesn’t even make sense if you just give it 5 seconds of thought. That’s a pretty vitriolic response to a rather tame post. Taylor’s hardcore fan base is huge. Perhaps the biggest any artist has ever had. These are the people powering the million+ physical sales in various configurations. Casual listeners rarely buy anything physical, they’ll just stream. For Taylor to have that many fans buying physical music — that’s impressive as hell! Taylor is also listened to by an enormous audience of more casual fans who may not buy her stuff but still will listen to it frequently. Again — impressive as hell! Those streaming numbers are insane! Is it possible Taylor has both the biggest stan fan base AND biggest casual fan base of any artist? Probably! So I have no idea why you think I’m in any way disputing any of that. But the original poster’s question was specific to whether Adele’s 25 was bigger than TTPD. And I said 25 was bigger, not because anything about Taylor is unimpressive, but because Adele had a moment in time where an enormous chunk of the population bought/listened to her album, and it wasn’t like this was some hardcore Adele stan thing. (Do Adele fans even have a nickname like Swifties?) In my opinion, Taylor’s continued success is unprecedented and unquestionably impressive beyond Adele’s more ephemeral enormous peak. So, thanks for calling me stupid, dim-witted, etc. I can’t imagine what you’d say to someone who was actually trying to diminish Taylor when virtually everything I said was lauding the hell out of her.

Hello was EVERYWHERE even before 25 was released. I don't see Fortnight being that ubiquitous, especially during a time it's very easy to avoid songs these days as the monoculture of decades past is not in the streaming era as much.

Woah woah woah nah nah nah we don't need Taylor and Drake teaming up right now relax relax
However if Taylor did a little backing vocals on Kendrick's diss like how she has backing vocals on "BODYGUARD" I would not be mad. In-fact that would be hilarious.
Is that confirmed? I thought TS vocals on Bodyguard was a false rumor I think Wikipedia had been falsely altered to say that at the time I read it day of release because it does not say it anymore.

Definitely not excited, but I think she’ll fall into a Lover era sales “lull” in the next five years (which still results in what would be a #1 song debut unless it’s against one of the biggest songs of all time, and an album bomb that would be massive for anybody not named Drake/TS Well a record is definitely exciting. I excited about seeing this week's chart. However I think everyone will eventually slow down in their career. Like even look at Drake this week, he put out a new song but that song is not even competitive enough to be chart higher than "Beautiful Things", "Too Sweet" or "Like That". So even he is now slowing down a bit. I won't be surprise Taylor will have that happen. But now she is just really at the peak that anything she put is just golden. Oh I think the record is definitely exciting too! The first poster I was responding to was salty about Taylor’s success and was “excited” for her to enter her flop era

This is a common practice in other entertainment industries of TV, movies, etc. You see the release calendar and you release accordingly or risk getting lost in the shuffle. I'm not sure how Billboard could ever make a fair rule to deal with album bombs. They kind of turn the Hot 100 into an album chart. Plus streams count towards both the album chart and the Hot 100 (as do individual track downloads, which are usually negligible these days), something that was never historically true when singles/downloads sales and radio airplay counted only towards the Hot 100, while album sales counted only towards the album chart. On the other hand, I also don't like a system like the British singles charts, which sets a cap on the number of songs from an album (and perhaps an artist - I'm never quite sure) that can chart at a time at 3 - the "Ed Sheeran rule," which also seems to distort the chart since songs consumed less than some of the album tracks end up with a higher weekly chart position. To me, the ideal situation would be if Billboard could somehow separate streams of an entire album from those of specific songs, and credit the former to the album chart and the latter to the Hot 100. That would, at least, seem to put each type of consumption on the appropriate chart, and avoid double counting streaming (they could also stop crediting individual track downloads towards the album chart). If that's not possible, one workaround could be: a) take the total streams of the least streamed track on the album; (b) deduct that amount from all tracks; (c) credit the remaining streams towards each track's poinit total on the Hot 100; and (d) credit the total streams deducted (basically the least number of streams for a track on an album times the number of tracks on the album) towards the album chart. It's imperfect, but at least it would attempt to distinguish consumptionn of an entire album from consumption of an individual track. But it might not be feasible, and given Billboard's financial problems they almost certainly wouldn't incur the additional costs it would take. TL:DR: I don't have a feasible answer....

If someone can make a proper formula for "how to deal with album bombs" that doesn't also wind up fucking with songs with good streaming and inadvertedly boosting sales and airplay heavy songsa, by all means share it. Otherwise, this is all just crying about a system that can't or shouldn't be fixed.
You can't negate album bombs without seriously downgrading streaming or making the formula overly complicated and convuleted.

Okay, but it's accurate and a reality of how people listen to music. It's crazy how people are so insistent on having arbitrary rules put in place because they don't like how people listen to music. Personally, I agree that album bombs are boring as a chart watcher, as are the one-week-wonders everyone rails about. They can be neat for the novelty but for following the charts week to week, they're kind of boring, but it's not Billboard's fault and I'm not about to demand that they remove accuracy from the chart to appease my desire to want gradually flowing movements week after week.

My issue is that Taylor in particular has a fanbase that listens to her music basically 24/7 - they are as obsessed as the BTS army has ever been. I've seen posts on forums where Taylor stans discuss if listening the album without volume on counts the charts lol. That is 100% BTS army behaviour. And it's fine, we know that the mega album bomb will only last a week but it is also fairly obvious that the gigantic numbers are inflated by the fanbase that buy AND streams the album all the time for a week to maximise the numbers.
But that's not to deny that she is the biggest artist in the (Anglo-American) world right now - obviously she is, especially with the Eras Tour currently going. However, all you need to do is take a look at some other countries beyond USA, UK, Australia and Canada, and you'll see that her total dominance ends there. These countries accumulate 70% of her global streams. For instance, in Mexico Fortnight has peaked at #14 on Spotify.

She isn't as big as every country but she is the biggest artist in the whole world not just the Anglo world. Swifties can be insane but that's usually just for the first week. It doesn't explain how she has been the top dailly streamed artist on Spotify for all but three days this year. Spotify filters out fraudulent streams.

I basically said that she is the biggest artist of the world, just saying that the dominance isn't that huge beyond the 4 countries mentioned. She will also need HITS to stay at the top (let's not forget that Cruel Summer becoming a surprise hit has boosted her streams a lot recently.)

Where do Europe and Southeast Asia fall under this paradigm?

Where do Europe and Southeast Asia fall under this paradigm? Also, no song truly peaks at #1 everywhere (except Macarena maybe haha). Blinding Lights didn’t peak in the top 50 in Japan, Korea, Colombia. Doesn’t mean it wasn’t a mega global hit. Even with the Mexico Fortnight example, that’s still pretty massive for an Anglo debut in Mexico and she did just sell out 4 massive shows in Mexico City

Please, if you look hard enough you can find this for every pop girl. Also the funny "Taylor Swift is only dominant in Anglo-American countries" thing again. Even with the Mexico Fortnight example, that’s still pretty massive for an Anglo debut in Mexico and she did just sell out 4 massive shows in Mexico City I think Hello was the closest one. We don't have data for every country ofc, but it peaked at #1 everywhere music charts existed, besides Japan Hot 100 (#17) and some airplay charts.
