At this point it doesn’t look like “Lifetimes” has been sent for adds on radio (if that even means anything since if radio loves the track they will start playing it). Or are they waiting for WW to do a Fortnight and fall off the face of this planet completely?

Who even knows. They slapped together a video at the last second so they could push it out the door, but it's never been properly communicated whether it is the actual second single or just a buzz track pushed out the door to distract from the utter failure of 'Woman's World' until they drop the "actual" second single. Right now I think we're just led to assume 'Lifetimes' is actually the next single, which makes the lack of any kind of immediate radio push all the more bizarre. I mean, you want to distract people from your lead single bombing by... setting the follow-up to bomb even harder?!
Unless the label sees the writing on the wall already, and are just writing the whole thing off before the album even drops because they know it's never going to make a return on their over-investment.

This whole confusion as to whether Lifetimes is the next single reminds me of Harleys In Hawaii. That too was released with a music video and then Katy/Capitol did absolutely nothing with it. No promo, no radio adds, nothing. So I have no clue what is going on but my guess is that it’s not getting radio adds because they would’ve done so already with WW falling off quickly.

That could be the case, so I say just release the album now. The surprise factor might actually work to its benefit a little.

Not sure what happened with Lifetimes-its quicky video made me think they would rush it out as a second single, but then nothing happened. I am assuming at this point they will be eyeing a third song for the actual second single, maybe with a remix and feature and renewed push around the VMAs and Vanguard award.

Probably don’t want to push Lifetimes since it’s pretty DOA. Wiser to invest in a single that has a better chance. It should be the 21 Savage song.

The lines are just so blurred on what is a single or not a single these days. Anything can take off, even 10 year old songs. But it’s annoying when you hear people say Never Worn White flopped, Harleys flopped, Hey Hey Hey flopped, It’s Not the End of the World Flopped, etc.

It's easy to mistake a song with music video as a single, if you don't understand that these days doing a full-on campaign for one song can amount to some crazy marketing cost. You gotta get the song playlisted everywhere, while also paying for ads/influencers across TikTok, Instagram, YouTube, etc. The budget of shooting a music video can be marginal relative to that number.

I just don't know why they are wasting resources on Lifetimes if they don't push it as a single. They have hella Tik Tok ads for it. It's literally almost every other ad I see on Tik Tok.

People trying to draw any parallel between Katy and Mariah's career arcs (Mariah sweetie, I'm so sorry) are missing the fundamental underlying premise. Mariah ruled an entire decade start to finish, blew away chart records, released multiple classics, built a loyal fanbase and a legacy as the greatest vocalist of her generation. So when she entered her first flop era in 2001, she was still doing it as an established legend with a deep well of respect and talent. Katy's career brand was always "hot girl who makes fun shallow pop bops" and she did it better than anyone - that's what the general public used her for. In the mid 2010s once the Dr. Luke hit factory dried up, and she ditched the hot fun girl image for the cringey mom persona, there was nothing really left for her to stand on (e.g. diehard fanbase, industry acclaim/respect) and the public quickly left. I don't know why comprehension is so difficult on this board but im sorry I started this mess. Where in my post was there a comparison between Mariah career and Katy these are different artists, styles and different eras. what I did say is anyone who has achieved success has ALSO been at one point in a down turn in their career. There is no UP without a down. What I was saying is people wrote off Mariah career and she is a legend so of course they gonna write of Katy but anyone can make a hit song anytime and take off again. Katy is a successful artist let's not bash her previous success because she is at a low and lets not throw away everything because she made some stupid decisions. She can redeem herself maybe it's not this project maybe it's the next one Clearly I'm not a Katy fan but I'm looking at this objectively. All it takes is the next track to take off whatever and whenever that is. We can only HOPE just like we can hope that one day Ava Max will achieve some of the success that Katy has already achieved

Anyone who couldn't see that Coco merely meant 'if Mariah can come back strong with the right song and the right producer, then so can Katy' is just being obtuse.

Probably departing top 50 before Lifetimes even gets close. What a misfire for everyone involved. I truly think getting a modest comeback for her was easy and they fumbled the bag terribly.

Losing that many spins this low on the chart is something you don’t see too often. It’s like there are zero spins going on.

What's this disparaging on Katy? Very unnecessary. It seems like you're just minimizing her success overall and being overtly negative towards her in this thread. It’s become clear that her success was a bit smoke-and-mirrors and that she hasn’t got much of a legacy. Oh please, 'smoke and mirrors'? 🙄 Katy Perry's success is anything but that—it's a result of her relentless hard work and talent. She didn’t just get lucky; she had three massive eras when most artists are fortunate to have one. Her journey also wasn't easy—she was broke in LA for MANY years, released a debut album under Katy Hudson that went nowhere, and got dropped by her label. She was scouted as the lead singer for The Matrix, but that project was shelved too. Most people would have given up, but she didn’t. She kept pushing through setback after setback. Katy was dropped from two record labels and had two albums shelved before she finally broke through with her debut. Then, she said herself ahead of Teenage Dream that it’s performance would show "whether I'm meant to do this, or I got lucky". We all know how that worked out. Then came Prism, debuting at #1 on the Billboard 200 with her best opening week yet. Katy Perry’s success isn’t smoke and mirrors—it’s perseverance, talent, and hard-earned success that nobody can take away from her. Is she creatively stunted and uninspired since Witness? Absolutely. Does that change her history of redefining what a pop star could be? As if.

Lordt, that type of response from her is exactly what is going to sink her career forever. She needs to just be honest atp about why she wanted to work with you know who, instead of pretending the backlash isn’t real.

Wouldn’t a polarizing response to a song be one where a large group of people LOVED it, and a large group of people HATED it? For example, Joan Osbourne’s hit song “One of Us” was polarizing. It was a hit record and won Grammys, but also parodied (particularly in the Island of Dr. Moreau piano scene homage in Austin Powers 2) and was criticized by religious groups for its line “What if God was one of us, just a slob like one of us.” Many people hate the song and consider it “Muzak.” For “Women”s World,” it was pretty universally panned. So the reaction wasn’t polarizing. It was simple, almost everyone disliked it.
