The snippet and demo pretty much made the song clear but the real thing definitely fails to change any prior notions between the bland almost Stupid Love production, terrible theming considering names involved, and just an overall lack of character or personality that defined the earlier half of her career

Even the music video isn't much, the main outfit from the single cover is cool but like...not much happens and it feels a bit try hard

She kinda showed everything for both the song and video off in all her teasers, it just lacks any punch. I mean even Trisha Paytas showing up is whatever cause we already knew that too lmao

That's what I thought was going to happen before I heard the snippets. Someone with a lot of built in following could definitely take what she's doing and turn it mainstream moreso than it already is, as long as it didnt feel cheap.

This sounds tremendously underbaked and like a big chunk of the production missing. It also feels so calculated (what with employing Puke) that its bland.

The music video is the real disappointment, she seems to be stuck in this weird Wandavisionesque world trying to recapture the cooky Teenage Dream days of using tomfoolery to reconnect with the masses sadly!

I like the production, Katy is hot in the video. But the lyrics feel like a rehash of all the female empowerment anthems that came before it. And this coming from someone who LOVES generic radio friendly pop-edm.

I heard the original clips and thought “dang that seems generic, especially for a Katy Perry lead single.” But it sounded like it had potential. Hearing the full song I think the same thing: basic as hell and wasted potential, because there really is a super strong pop song hidden in there somewhere.

The song is a passable bop. The missing bridge or even a great outro really deflates it, but the chorus definitely works. Can't believe she went back to Doctor Luke and risked the controversy for something so basic, lol. Literally any producer could have done this.

my first thought was: she really risked her image, comeback hype and success for this? Like, I'd understand if it was a too hard to resist bop and sure-fire hit like Teenage Dream, Hot N Cold or Dark Horse, but this is one of her most basic singles. I mean, I like it, will be on my summer playlist and everything, but this one needed to be one of her strongest songs, if she wanted a big comeback, NRO, Harleys, 365 and When I'm Gone are easily better songs.

I like some shots from the video, but overall nothing special.

The great thing is that her lead singles aren't the best on the album, but I'm afraid radio and GP won't be there anymore to support. I'd love to be proven wrong tho.

Aftering hearing more of the album in snippets they definitely went for one of the more generic songs for the lead. Tbh this isn't even in my top 3 of snippets Ive heard and that's with the whole song out. Why is baffling to me. Especially with the Dr. Luke fiasco. Now it's just gonna be even harder for her to commercially shine again.

It's a bop, definitely stuck in your head/on repeat kind of song. Really like the music video as well! Already over 115k likes in less than 2 hours which is big. Likely will do fairly good numbers on youtube to help bolster it's streaming.

I still remember how much shade was thrown at Roar upon release here. But back then she was hot on the heels of TD, couldn't miss really.

The music video doesn't make any sense, but then again Dark Horse's video is awful and one of YT's biggest hits.

Probably the best example is Rihanna's "We Found Love". Went on to become her biggest hit. Demi's "Sorry Not Sorry" is also another example that had really negative responses on initial release and went on to become Demi's biggest hit (and spawn the amazing Yvie Oddly vs Brooke Lynn Hytes lip sync).

The song is fine. Probably her best lead since “Roar” but still lacking. I feel like she’s dumbed her image down with the song and video. Having Trisha Paytas in the video. It’s how I felt about the “GUY” music video by Gaga too, but at least that video was still well done despite the cheap-ass cameos. I don’t hate it and will bop to the song I’m sure but I’m disappointed so far and also should have known to expect better.

I'm surpirsed by the receptions on Pulse. This song is basically "California Gurls" but made TikTok-ready. My hope is not high given the performances of her last 2 eras.
