Ftr: I actually like this song, I just didn't expect it to catch on like it has.
In spite of all this, I still don't really think it's made for pop radio. Espresso is still growing on pop, and feather is dropping on HAC/AC, so perhaps pushing it there could be the move. If it gets pop spins in the meantime, all the better.

Thanks, you MOTHERFUCKER! LOLOL jk. Seriously though, I am going to give this some more spins to see if I notice other parts of it I like. My biggest issue with it was that it seemed disjointed, on first listen, and I am so stuck on Espresso and all its goofiness that this one just didn't hit me the way I was hoping it would.

Momentum doesn't always add up to success, especially in the era of "TikTok hits." Where is Tate McRae's "Exes"? What about Gayle? Hell, we all saw what happened to Miley Cyrus and her "Flowers" follow-ups.
All I'm saying is, there was no guarantee this song would be performing this way, and its success does not make it an "objectively quality product" either. I just don't see the point in arguing about people's initial reactions and belittling their interest in pop music. None of us have a crystal ball, but it's certainly easier to say "I told you so!" after things go the way you hoped/thought they would.
It's fun to see someone finally connect after years of modest returns, and suddenly smash on the charts like this. I really do wish I liked this song more!

Some are really trying to go out of their way to explain the success of the song. Maybe some of us just really like it. I, for one, like it even more than Espresso.
When songs do well simply do well due to the success of a previous song (anticipation) they tend to debut high and then fall off. To have it grow day after day shows people are connecting with it. I'll concede it sounds nothing like anything that's on the radio now, but that's a good thing to me (like others have said, there are hints of abba, a bit of kacey, and i even hear a little dolly in her delivery).

This is okay. I prefer Espresso, but both pale in comparison to true Sabrina gems like Nonsense, On Purpose, Thumbs, Why, Almost Love, or Looking At Me.

Screaming that we're witnessing in real-time Sabrina Carpenter having one of the biggest hits of the decade with a mid-tempo ABBA country song.

There is a world in which sabrina's back catalog is boosted enough to where Looking At Me becomes a hit, or at least comes onto the streaming charts. That is a world I want to live in.

Had no idea my local radio station was already playing this. They rarely jump on newer tracks, I guess with the song doing well on streaming and they play espresso and feather a lot it was inevitable.

The radio edit is so funny. "I beg you don't embarrass me, mothertrucker" There's one that says 'little sucker' now. Guess that was too close for comfort for some stations (and the trouble she's going to has to confirm a pop push).

the Spotify autoplay on this song is insane. here's some of us pulse users found autoplays on Spotify:
Lose Control --> Please Please Please Beautiful Things --> Please Please Please Espresso --> Please Please Please Fortnight --> Please Please Please Not Like Us --> Please Please Please HISS --> Please Please Please We Can't Be Friends --> Please Please Please I Had Some Help --> Please Please Please Million Dollar Baby --> Please Please Please A Bar Song --> Please Please Please Texas Hold Em --> Please Please Please
... basically every hit song from 2024 autoplays this song next. but wait, there's more:
Criminal (Fiona Apple) --> Please Please Please A Toast To Men (Willa Ford) --> Please Please Please Motion Sickness (Phoebe Bridgers) --> Please Please Please Don't Stop the Music (Rihanna) --> Please Please Please 9 to 5 (Dolly Parton) --> Please Please Please APESHIT (BeyoncΓ© & Jay Z) --> Please Please Please Hips Don't Lie (Shakira) --> Please Please Please TROLLZ (6ix9ine & Nicki Minaj) --> Please Please Please Back to Black (Amy Winehouse) --> Please Please Please LGBT (Cupcakke) --> Please Please Please Stronger (Britney Spears) --> Please Please Please Say My Name (Destiny's Child) --> Please Please Please
... and people are noticing. this tweet from earlier today has a lot of people agreeing to experiencing this (160k and counting):

Seems a bit incidental, given it's number one on pretty much every platform (including Apple Music, YouTube) in almost every major Western market globally. Auto

I'm happy it's sabrina getting the special treatment, but it's definitely a bit outrageous the wide range of songs this'll play after. She can live with 2 million streams a day and a huge social media following, it's going to be bad for her reputation with the GP if the label keeps buying autoplay like this. She's clearly already organically popular!

I played Espresso a lot (and Fast Times too), so it wasn't really strange to me that PPP automatically plays, but when my friend who basically hates everything modern and popular (and never heard of Sabrina) complained about it...idk π€·ββοΈ
Still don't get the song, it's kinda boring to me, but I'd happy to see Sabrina at #1.
