Honestly, I did not even know it was possible in 2024 to have an album have "118k activity" with "110,000" album sales. That's honestly baffling, to sell such a large amount of albums through actual sales without even enough people streaming it to get more than 8,000 equivalent. I'm mystified. But I'm probably just missing something, well, I must be.

Agreed. It's illogical. It's fair to assume the fanbase is under 25yo (20 yo). Why would they buy, but not stream in any significant way?

As we've seen with many artists, fans will buy the physical, but stream like mad.

Could it be the majority of those US sales are actually bought by fans outside the US and shipped to them? I'm curious because none of this adds up.

K-Pop is basically similar to a cult following.

It’s a very small group of people, but they are very likely to buy because they are rabid followers of the artist.

100,000 people buy a CD and even if they also streamed the album maybe 100 times each on average first week, that’s only 10 million streams which equates to around 7K streaming units.

Normal genres primarily have millions of people streaming big releases, but K-Pop just isn’t that big of a reach in general within US (outside 1-2 outliers like BTS). Their smaller reach is like 50x more likely to buy their music though hence the first week pure sales can get them to reach numbers that artists with 50x more listeners get.

Yeah, she's never had an album hold up like this on the charts. It's steady in the UK as well. She's also such a huge part of the convo across the music press and on social media, the whole BRAT summer thing is hilarious.

She's riding that fine line of having a quasi-main pop girl moment, but keeping it indie-minded and without a full mainstream crossover. Which I think is best for her. That's always been her schtick, it's just never synthesized this perfectly before.

OneRepublic is so low, especially after having one of the greatest hits of the past few years. Bummed that they weren’t able to keep the momentum from that.

Not just potential, it already is... aside from the album doing big numbers, she has two songs perched in the global Spotify top 100 and BRAT is all over pop culture this summer.

^In Charlie's case, I think it is mostly due to Apple rise at US Spotify. Pure sales for it did increase by just under 400.

Are you talking about physicals of the Jelly Roll single? If you mean the album, the CD doesn't drop until Sept 13th and the vinyl Oct 25th, which is a quite a while away.
