This is my favorite on the album. Addicting! Reminds me of a catchier, more “popping” version of Bon Appetit.

Or put a way it makes a little more sense:
-- ?? KATY PERRY I'm His, He's Mine f/Doechii 20 0 20 0.024
Meanwhile:
?? ?? KATY PERRY LIFETIMES 23 30 -7 0.008
So 'Lifetimes' currently has more spins, even with less audience impressions. And also:
?? ?? KATY PERRY WOMAN'S WORLD 28 18 10 0.000
Of course 'Woman's World' is on the recurrents list since it got purged, but this is the extent of what Starters/Leaders gives us for her three singles from this album. There is virtually zero radio presence for this album.

There is no reason why radio shouldn't give this song even a couple hundred spins on the album release week. It's like a vendetta or sth.

Just heard this on my local pop station (Oklahoma City). They introduced it as their "new music test drive." It sounded great on the radio! I don't know understand why Capitol hasn't sent this for adds.

Seems like Capitol just doesn't give a fuck and are gonna let this era and any minimal potential it has die.

I mean just about anything would have been a better lead than WW, but I can’t fathom this doing much as a lead either. Crush is probably the most radio friendly overall, but I’m not gonna pretend it isn’t mostly due to the chorus sounding like a copy and paste of Kelly’s Catch My Breath. Which she probably would’ve been dragged through the mud for if she released, knowing how people have come for her this era. So still probably a bad choice too.

I think this would have performed much better as the lead! At first I was underwhelmed, but this song is honestly such a grower as I love it now! Especially love Katy's vocals during the pre-chorus and Doechii's performance in general!

To me, this is a nice Katy album. I just feel bad Katy has had so much grief posted with all those negative posts. Katy seems like a very upbeat person and has a great man by her side. Glad she just goes on her merry way and does her own thing. For her next album, I hope she gets a new producer and team and changes up her sound. At least then she will not have to hear about working with Dr L. Artists need change and Katy will.

Honestly aside from not sending a second song to radio Capitol did a great job this era. She's been out there. She got budget for three videos. VMAs. Rock in Rio. Multiple viral hype stuff (pre-WW in particular). The target audience knows she's got new music... it just didn't sell.
If anything Capitol is only at fault for letting her do two things: do this middling album and letting her drop the worst song as the lead. Even then as far as we know she has earned some control over her single choices post-PRISM.
I know it's not common for pop fans to acknowledge it isn't always the label's fault but still.

Idk about dropping the worst song as the lead...WW isn't among my favorites from the album, but it sounds like a lead single to me just like "California Gurls" and "Roar" do. It's got a memorable chorus. The lyrics are cringey, but it's the type of music that Target and Walmart blast during this time of the year. I can see why they put their money on it.

I would say the blame goes both ways. Neither Capitol nor Katy’s hands are clean of bad decisions made this era. I still believe Katy would thrive more with a new label and one who will tighten the reins a bit more when it comes to certain decisions. Because regardless of who made decisions this era, I’m sure both Capitol and Katy signed off on it.

Honestly I think people are being a bit unfair to Katy's label. I still think for better or worse, Katy had the artistic freedom and major direction in this project to do as she pleasd and Capital definitely did all and more of what they were supposed to do: they promoted the hell out of the album, gave her the budget for 3 videos before release, released multiple variants, the imaging and aesthetic of the era looked high-budget/nice, she had an enthusiastic team behind her, she worked with who she wanted to work with, honestly most of the reasons this era faltered came down to Katy and her own personal decisions as the main contributer of her content. Her lack of creativity in the songs she produced (I mean even working on "Woman's World" she helped take an interesting demo and made it incredibly mediocre/worse), the insistence of working with Dr. Luke, her poor handling of the entire pr disaster, the direction of the album's sound, the middling lyrical content and lack of artistic touch etc. Even when one says something like "the label signed off on this???", well, the label is only going to be able to push what their artists are able to produce? It's not like the label writes the hits or can make their artist come up with them. If the problem were lackluster material , which it absolutely is in part, the fault would still lie with Katy for failing to meet expectations or producing better material. It's not like she couldn't have resourced other better producers and artists to work with or have honed in more on strengthening her craft or have come up with a stronger/better artistic vision for this project. I'm also not sure the label can afford to just keep her, producers, and writers in the studio month after month without eventually needing to release something to warrant them spending so much money. I can understand why people fault labels when artist's aren't promoted or their material isn't given a fighting chance or the like, but 143 isn't one of these incidents. If I were the label I would have just scrapped the whole project once I saw the reaction to 143 via "Woman's World" and had Katy hit the studio to do a major retooling of the album with different producers (removing Luke completely) and postponed the release, but maybe they just didn't have the money or time/ability to do this or maybe Katy wasn't for it? Guess we'll never know.
