Hmm. It’s fine. It’s very repetitive, which isn’t helped by the fact the main part of the song has been posted on her stories so much already. Watching the video, I felt I had already heard the song 100 times, and nothing was a surprise. Even the video.. did they spend the entire budget on Woman’s World? This looks like they spent more money on the pizza than the video. I think I’m finally accepting that Katy is done on radio, which is fine with me as long as the music is still there. If this was on Smile, it would be one of the weaker songs All of this to say, it sounds very underbaked. And sorry to bring him up again, but she felt the need to work with Dr Luke for THIS?! Anyone with a few tutorials in Ableton could have produced it, and the lyrics are nothing complex This is exactly how I felt. It's fine which automatically makes it better than WW (not that it's a high bar but a win is a win) but I was left feeling "that was it?" after listening to it. If they officially push this, she's going to have a hard time in the US since straight up house music doesn't seem to really connect on radio (I'm thinking of "yes, and?", "Rain On Me" etc.) on top of the fact that the previous single didn't connect at all. She might have a better time in Europe though. |

Listened to this and Walking On Air back to back and looooord the latter is superior. Has an actual structure.
And agree with the Dr Luke comment. I said all of this when WW was released but once again, it just wasn’t necessary to work with him on something like this. I used to have her down as maybe a little distasteful but savvy enough to work around it - and maybe she was in the past. No longer. Half assed singles produced by him won’t get her anywhere.

120 bpm, C major. I'm trying to think of what to mash it up with to improve on the production. I was thinking We Found Love, but that's far in quite in key (although the stems were released so it shouldn't be difficult to pitch it without sounding strange). This Is What You Came For is an option, but the drop isn't the best pay off. Maybe I Want You To Know by Zedd and Selena. Or better yet, ditch EDM and go for some good old Pop, like Timber. I loved the way that improved Perfect Illusion

Eh. I don't dislike it but there's nothing special on it either. I can just play any throwback from the EDM craze of the 2010s and get the same thing without giving any coin to Dr. Luke.

It does sound like a Calvin Harris song from the early 2010s! I was wondering why it felt so familiar. It would have been nice if it were actually produced by him instead of Dr.Luke.

Having let this sizzle a bit overnight into today, this is pretty solid. It’s not as good as WW for me tho, as WW has more vocal layers and adlibs and more redub going on. I’ll still die on the hill that WW is quintessential Katy Perry.
Lifetimes is good. Hook is very strong, but that single verse falls flat for me. But other than that it’s just a repeated loop, albeit an excellent one. Lest we forget Hung Up was basically a loop too.
She’s 2/2 for me. Will this be a Top 10 Pop hit? Most likely not, but I don’t care. I’ll be jamming in the gym FOR SURE and that’s all that matters to me at this point. Her career trajectory doesn’t affect my personal life whatsoever. More than 75% of the “hits” these days are crap imo, so the public missing out on fun music once again is out of my control.

I actually like the video for this song. The editing is nice and it keeps you hype. It brings the song to life in my opinion. Even though it’s an end of an era/love letter to fans type of video, I think it worked.
As a non-fan, I wouldn’t mind hearing this in a bar or a club.
But again, she can’t hit #1 on US iTunes.

I love this song and hope it does well. Why Katy gets so much backlash, I will never know. To me, it makes no sense. Maybe I am crazy, but I love both Woman's World and Lifetimes and know I will love her album. Sometimes it feels as if women in the music biz get so much flack for whatever they do.
