I like Lifetimes but am not hearing it. When out and about I still hear Woman's World but not Lifetimes. At least not yet. I assume they will move on to this closer to the album drop next month.

It's predicted to debut at #56 in the UK, which isn't far behind Woman's World peak (#47). Ended up debuting at #89 there.

And with a very pointed reporting from Music Week about how much it flopped, damn these reporters! To be fair she has handed it to media on a plate as fine dining to troll the shit out of her this era. From Music Week: “It is four weeks since Woman’s World, the first single from Katy Perry’s upcoming album 143, debuted and peaked at No.47 amidst scathing reviews. Quickfire follow-up Lifetimes doesn’t fare as badly – it fares worse, opening at No.89 (6,731 sales).”

I do think it will eventually make the top 50 on Pop (at best) without any clear communication of a push from the label, but it looks like it'll chart on HAC first.

The track debuts inside Top 50 on Hot AC today, so I'm moving this thread here.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but hasn’t every official single by Katy reached the Top 40 of Pop?

Correct me if I’m wrong, but hasn’t every official single by Katy reached the Top 40 of Pop? Yes but define "official"... if Hey,Hey,Hey and Harleys do not count against her streak then this shouldn't either since none of them got an adds date.

She’s been out for 16 years why are people shocked she’s not smashing?? Yes, she was on American Idol, but that doesn’t help everyone much. Didn’t her last era kind of flop??? I like a decent amount of her music, but she only had 3 pretty successful eras. Which is great, but it’s not like she was in the league of Mimi, Whitney,Madonna etc. Plus this song is kind of Ehh. Cute enough, but probably not get people on board.

Regarding your last album question she's technically about to launch her third album that's an all around failure, but avid watchers spotted some cracks on her hit making foundation during PRISM. It didn't fail whatsoever but a surefire 5 hit singles era ended up with three singles underperforming (and two diamond ones that completely kept the narrative positive back then). She has just made a lot of bad and weird decisions since with little artistic evolution to show off.

She could've had a decent comeback but she has ruined and wasted the goodwill by working with Luke. Personally i have no problem with her working with him and i enjoy Lifetimes but i can understand why people are reluctant.

I think she really could have saved her career if she chose the right songs from the jump. Going back to her last album. The rollout for singles imo should’ve been NRO - HIH - Cry about it later - then if it got too a 4th single she could’ve played around with anything but prob should’ve stuck with “Smile”. I think that would have been able to grab her audience and radios attention for the next couple of years while she was on Idol. And if I was her team during her time on Idol, I would’ve tried to do at least a few good collabs throughout. Building her brand in music back up then come to 2024 and drop lifetimes first, and just make a video for woman’s world without promoting it as a single. MAN PUT ME ON HER TEAM!!

I don’t think Lifetimes is lead single material tho. It doesn’t feel complete. Just like Smile from the last album was a terrible single too with an empty bridge. Daisies could’ve been 4th.
There’s gotta be something on 143 that is the clear standout that they are ignoring. There always is.

I think she really could have saved her career if she chose the right songs from the jump. Going back to her last album. The rollout for singles imo should’ve been NRO - HIH - Cry about it later I was just compiling this exact lineup yesterday when I was reimagining Katy's career. Had she sat on "Never Really Over" just one summer as she perfected the Smile album, then launched the campaign with "Never Really Over", directly followed by "Harleys In Hawaii", "Cry About It Later", and "Daises" to round out the era, it would have undoubtedly (in my eyes) not only performed better, but set her up perfectly for much bigger returns going forward (given 143 never included Dr. Luke and were the project we were all kind of willfully hoping it would be). Instead "Small Talk" killed any momentum "Never Really Over" built, they used "Harleys In Hawaii" as a throwaway, and led Smile with, while a solid pop song, a song that wasn't the sure-fire hit they needed to counteract Witness's poor performnce. Her chances were shot to hell with 143 from the jump with the way they compiled everything. lol

I'll stand by the fact that Smile is a solid pop album, it's short and sweet, doesn't overstay it's welcome, has plenty of bops with only a couple duds and has some career highlights including Never Really Over, Harleys In Hawaii and Cry About It Later. Cut a few tracks and few bad lyrics from otherwise great songs (like the "crust in my eyes" lyric from Champagne Problems) and it probably would be seen as an underrated pop album.

Why is this song on the CHR Pop thread? Are there any signs of this growing on radio?

NRO, HIH, and CAIL really were a trifecta of hits for her when she desperately needed that, it was just such a poor/mishandled rollout all around. Anyways, why is this song just a chorus on loop? Who on earth thought this was a good idea for the light of day?

This entered at #15 on Bubbling Under Hot 100. Well, something I guess and if there’s some radio traction and VMAs have any impact it can squeeze in a week on Hot 100.
