I swear the second trap pop died after Covid he immediately switched to 80's synth pop He's been doing 80's throwback pop since his commercial breakthrough in 2015, his first #1 single was Can't Feel My Face and that was also the same shit. That album had a couple other cuts with that sound too including In The Night, Starboy was also filled with 80's throwbacks including A Lonely Night and I Feel It Coming and Secrets. His pop music has always been THAT, even on his more R&B heavier projects like BBTM the pop cuts were always 80's synthpop.

There's lots of parts of Kiss Land that are also very 80's synth pop, Wanderlust and Belong To The World are good examples.

This new song is solid, but... This is a style that works for Weeknd. IMO the style of Earned It, Call Out My Name, Die For You, heck dare I say it, maybe even The Hills, do not work for Weeknd IMO at least in my opinion. So yea, I definitely like his upbeat synth style. So, it sounds like you are not an OG Weeknd fan then. I'm the opposite. I liked him a lot more before he hooked up with Max and the other Swedes, even though they make great music. I prefer my Abel murky, shadowy, and moody. Still not #1 on iTunes. Is he the new Katy? Not quite, Spree, but...good try.

Yes! “Wanderlust” 💕 Also worth noting that even post-Dawn FM, many others tried to copy The Weeknd’s 80’s sound. Torey Lanez basically made Abel knockoffs his musical brand for a while - and tbh songs like “The Color Violet” or “Lavender Sunflower” are HOT but would be even hotter if Abel sang them.

He's truly the male Katy Perry. 31 -7 The Weeknd - Dancing In The Flames Katy Perry had three Billboard #1's this decade? Quick - you may want to update her Wikipedia page.

This song was instant for me and has gotten better with each listen. Setting my personal feelings aside, It's still giving prime radio fodder with just the right amount of familiarity. If it flops at radio, I'd be surprised.

Ed Sheeran is closer to Katy, The Weeknd still has good streams compared to two.

He's truly the male Katy Perry. 31 -7 The Weeknd - Dancing In The Flames If your comparing using Apple Music, Woman's World only charted in the low #190-#200's range on apple music for a day.

He's truly the male Katy Perry. 31 -7 The Weeknd - Dancing In The Flames Her latest single didn't chart in any country on Spotify, The Weeknd is not even close to Katy. This only happened during the 143 era. CTTR and NRO were doing ok-ish. The Weeknd seems to be having a similar career trajectory.

What is with people's obsession with comparing artists to Katy? 99% of the time it NEVER applies. That goes for Dua, Sabrina, The Weeknd, etc. which I've all seen thrown around recently.

If you’re talking about me when I said Katy should only tour larger markets like Dua, that was it. There was no actual comparison. But I agree that comparing The Weeknd to her makes absolutely no sense.

I said that in one thread, every time someone achieves like 2 or 3 huge hits from one album THIS IS HER TEENAGE DREAM ERA, or when someone's lead underperforms THIS IS HER WITNESS ERA. It's tiring and funny at the same time.
