Loving Sailor Song, is consistently in the top 10 on US Spotify. I would love to see it rise this week.
APT. is giving 2012 Cher Lloyd tea.
Love Somebody is okay. Has a nice summery feel to it. Edit: Actually really mid and basic as fuck.

I don't hate the new Morgan song, but it does have me wonder: is he going to go pop soon? It's a country song, sure, but it also sounds like it'd be at home on Top 40 just as much. And I wonder if he looks at the success Taylor's had (she's what, minimum top 3 artists of the century? Maybe top 1?) and sees himself going down that same path. What do y'all think?

Yeah I was wondering that too. But today the lines are so blurred he could release almost anything that would do well at country and probably crossover to pop rather than leave country altogether

I think it's more a desire of his label (Think bout me and last night he didn't even want to record them, he wasn't convinced). On the other hand, he has always said that he likes to listen to all genres (years ago he sang a rock medley in concerts).

Love somebody #1 with a 2,376,888 streams. Those are strong numbers but will need to be stable or grow to challenge for #1 (my hunch is it holds or grows slightly over the next few days)

^I can see it debuting in the top 10, even top 5 given how weak the Hot 100 is. Not having an official YouTube video will definitely hurt it. It would need huge numbers at Apple Music to have a chance at #1 or probably grow during the week at Spotify. It did get a pretty splashy debut at radio according to kworb with 8.81 audience.

Apt is kinda ass lol. Dated and from an era of pop that wasn't even that good back in the day.

He's already the top male recording artist today by far, and possibly the #1 recording artist in general with the exception of Taylor, so why change? And I predict he will continue to be stronger than Taylor for years to come, and his voice and probably his tastes don't suit pure pop well at all.

I mean I'll not be surprised if he fully transitions to pop but country is a lot bigger now than in the early 2010's so he doesn't really need to unless he's looking to maximize his global success

It seems to me like Drake might actually be done now, unless he drops a song himself (not that leaked or that 100 GB bs) and it actually does well. At this rate it probably doesn’t matter as even the songs he featured on used to still guarantee a spot on the hot 100, now it doesn’t.

Kinda unfortunate that I couldn't stop thinking about Training Season as it's among my favorite songs of this year, but Love Somebody is also fine. I like it.
The top ten needs desperately new blood, and Morgan's new song surely seems like a welcomed addition.

Die With a Smile still reigns as the highest charting Bruno Mars track. I guess Gaga's impact wasn't that marginal then...

i'm pretty sure there are lots of people who are adverse to listening to music by a woman from the Asian music industry. white American Gaga does not have that problem.

Having said that, there was some country crossover in the early 2010s. Even looking beyond Taylor Swift, "If I Die Young" and "Cruise" got solid Top 40 play. I also think country music moved more 'pop(uar)' across the past 15 years. I look at "Dirt Road Anthem" and how Aldean attempted a rap cadence on it (and of course got Ludacris on a remix). "Cruise" then had similar elements and had Nelly on it, of course. That's all when 'bro country' started.

If Morgan is gonna get a number 1 hit, then I’m fine with the new song. At least it isnt an ugly trap/country hybrid type song.

RE: Drake, he will need a hard “reset” with his next proper era. He’s gotta come out swinging with something interesting and that actually grabs people’s attention if he’s going to keep ruling the charts. Critical acclaim wouldn’t hurt either. If he churns out the same autopilot crap he has since Scorpion, it is 100% over for him.
On the plus side, either way I now feel confident he is not going to snatch either Mariah or The Beatles’ #1s records, which is really all I wanted out of my chart-watching ways tbh.
