According to the article, the list is based on "staff picks for the 25 greatest pop stars of the last 25 years." Thus it seems like it would be based solely upon who the staff thinks is best, and not on U.S. chart points alone, in which case they could technically pick anyone. The list so far seems to align with the biggest artists in general of the past 25 years anyway, so maybe the criteria is a combination of the two, in addition to incorporating maybe somewhat of a global perspective. At first I thought it was based solely on U.S. chart points, in which case I would say Britney actually has no chance of making the top 6, since her largest year by far, 1999, would be cut out, and she was surprisingly only the #8 overall artist on the points-based 2000s decade-end, and an even more lowly #71 for the 2010s. Gaga likewise might not make the top 6 by points alone, but if it's also based on staff opinion, I guess both have a shot. Someone else who might have a minor shot is Post Malone, who many are probably forgetting because his success has been concentrated in a relatively short period of time compared to the whole quarter century (just the past 7-8 years) and he is so recent, yet he has made a HUGE impact. Some others who might have a chance are Alicia Keys and Maroon 5.

The number one spot will be Beyoncé or Taylor. Y’all are delusional if you think anyone else will get it and that’s me basing this from billboards criteria.

Beyonce has hardly been a “pop star” since IASF nearly 15 years ago though. I think Billboard needed to better define what they meant by that term.

That list is an absolute mess. It doesn't make much sense in any context, but especially not as a list of the biggest *pop stars*. They really should've just gone with "biggest artists."

There could be a whole amount of shuffling around in that top ten for the sake of subjective argument over who the "bigger" pop star is.

Post Malone is probably the second biggest melodic rapper of all time (behind Drake, of course). I honestly have no idea how he didn't make it in the top 25 but BTS did.

They probably had to include BTS in it for their own safety or else face the wrath of their dangerously insane fanbase.

Posty, Alicia and M5 are among the honorable mentions so already confirmed not to be in the top 25. Tay, Bey, Gaga, Brit, Rih and probably Drake are likely the last six.

I'd be surprised the most at Maroon 5 and Alicia Keys not making it. And the latter being heavily R&B-focused can't be the reason, as other heavily R&B or Rap-focused artists ranked high on the list, like Usher and Kanye. Kanye being at #7 btw and Alicia not making it is pretty disgusting.

Why do we care so much about that particular list? It has no objective criteria so it's basically a bunch of people getting together to birth a list stupid enough to generate outrage clicks.

Instead, history has been made as for the first time ever - a female K-Pop artist has the biggest song in the country. As after a so-so debut, ROSÉ's collab with Bruno Mars - APT. - went to #1 with 12M streams. It was only number one by 700K but I suspect the gap will be bigger now that APT. has built up steam. And that shouldnt detract from what a surprise and a historical milestone this is, all the congrats to ROSÉ. Die With A Smile was actually up this week by 2.5%, presumably as a residual from APT. runaway success. And then at #3 is the song, I think most people expected to top this week - Morgan Wallen's new single Love Somebody. It will go to #1 on the Hot 100 as it's predictably strong on Apple Music but regardless it is a success, just perhaps not an unstoppable one. Taste was actually down a surprising amount 8.1%, not a huge loss but it does show that it's dominance on streaming has finally slipped. Speaking of which, this is likely the last week I track Short N' Sweet, after a staggering 9 weeks, just an incredible amount of longevity and stability. I Love You, I'm Sorry was up in total streams this week but because of APT. and Love Somebody, it remains #6 in total streams. It looks like none of the singles from last week have any staying power. Thick of It falls by 21.15% whilst a lot BRAT proves the concerns of being frontloaded: Apple dropped 10.49% and the Ariana rework of Sympathy is a knife absolutely collapsed with a 44.71% drop. Or What's viral push was also stinted with a 16.86% decline, let's see if it can recover from here. It looks like ROSÉ's success prompted people to check out other BLACKPINK outings as LISA's promo song from a few weeks back 'Moonlit Floor' debuted and JENNIE's 'Mantra' was even up 4.08%. We also had a deepcut from GloRilla's new album chart a weeklate as her collabed with Sexyy Red charted. We also saw several debuts from Gracie Abrams' deluxe release of her album, including That's So True becoming a second viral single. We also saw T yler the Creator's mid-week release manage enough streams for a Top 25 debut, let's see how it does with Chromakopia dropping on Monday. But we also had tragic debuts this week as What Makes You Beautiful, Story of My Life, and Night Changes debuted following the untimely death of Liam Payne tragically young age of just 31. Deepest condolences to his family, friends, and of course his One Direction bandmates. Notable Gains:Tu Boda - 119.1% NEL - 56.57% I Love You, I'm Sorry (Live) - 29.08% Heartless [Morgan Wallen] - 23.97% See You Again - 19.3% Best Time - 16.78% Break from Toronto - 14.89% EL LOKERON - 11.75% Don't - 10.31% Babydoll - 9.63%

Plus, ROSÉ and Bruno Mars debut at No. 8 with "APT."
Morgan Wallen’s “Love Somebody” leaps onto the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 1.
The single, released Oct. 18, arrives as Wallen’s third Hot 100 leader, after Post Malone’s “I Had Some Help,” featuring Wallen, opened on top in May and reigned for six weeks, and “Last Night” dominated for 16 weeks in 2023.
Notably, Wallen maintains the longest Hot 100 reign of the 2020s with “Last Night” – his new No. 1 dethrones Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” which a week earlier tallied its 15th week in the top spot (and remains tied with Harry Styles’ 2022 hit “As It Was” for the second-longest command this decade).
“Love Somebody,” on Mercury/Big Loud/Republic, becomes the 1,175th No. 1 in the Hot 100’s 66-year history, and the first to debut atop the chart since “I Had Some Help.”
“‘Love Somebody’ is a little bit of a new approach lyrically and sonically,” Wallen shared in a statement upon the release of the longing love song, which he co-wrote. “I wanted to try something different, with what I wanted to talk about … how I wanted it to sound, and we were inspired by Latin-leaning influences. I’m really excited about this song and pumped that it is out.”
Plus, ROSÉ and Bruno Mars soar onto the Hot 100 at No. 8 with “APT.” BLACKPINK member ROSÉ earns her first top 10 as a soloist, outpacing the group’s No. 13 best set by “Ice Cream,” with Selena Gomez, in 2012. She also makes history as the first female artist prominent in K-pop (Korean pop) to hit the top 10. Mars, meanwhile, adds his milestone 20th Hot 100 top 10. The Hot 100 blends all-genre U.S. streaming (official audio and official video), radio airplay and sales data, the lattermost metric reflecting purchases of physical singles and digital tracks from full-service digital music retailers; digital singles sales from direct-to-consumer (D2C) sites are excluded from chart calculations. All charts (dated Nov. 2, 2024) will update on Billboard.com Tuesday, Oct. 29). For all chart news, you can follow billboard and billboardcharts on both X, formerly known as Twitter, and Instagram. Luminate, the independent data provider to the Billboard charts, completes a thorough review of all data submissions used in compiling the weekly chart rankings. Luminate reviews and authenticates data. In partnership with Billboard, data deemed suspicious or unverifiable is removed, using established criteria, before final chart calculations are made and published.
‘Love Somebody’ Streams, Airplay & Sales
“Love Somebody” arrives with 31.1 million official streams , 15.2 million radio airplay audience impressions and 17,000 sold in the United States Oct. 18-24.
The track concurrently debuts at No. 1 on Streaming Songs, where it’s Wallen’s third No. 1, and Digital Song Sales, where he adds his seventh leader. It begins at No. 42 on Radio Songs, as well as No. 13 on Country Airplay, marking his highest career entrance on the latter list.
Wallen initially previewed the song on TikTok in May and performed it during the European leg of his One Night at a Time Tour. Following the original single’s proper release Oct. 18, a live version was posted to Wallen’s official YouTube account Oct. 24.
No. 1 on Hot 100 & Hot Country Songs
“Love Somebody” concurrently debuts as Wallen’s ninth leader, and record-extending sixth to debut at No. 1, on the multimetric Hot Country Songs chart.
It’s the 29th hit to have topped both the Hot 100 and Hot Country Songs, dating to 1958, when the former originated and the latter became the country genre’s singular Billboard chart. It’s the fourth such song of 2024, after four also topped the Hot 100 in 2023, the most in a year since 1975; it’s the ninth this decade, after only two led over the previous 36 years.
Plus, Wallen adds his record-breaking third shared Hot 100 and Hot Country Songs No. 1. He surpasses Glen Campbell, John Denver, Dolly Parton, Kenny Rogers and Taylor Swift, each with two.
Not Just Anybody at No. 1
The word “love” is a regular visitor to No. 1 via Hot 100 song titles, a tradition that began with “To Know Him, Is to Love Him” by The Teddy Bears in 1958.
“Somebody” is rarer in the name of Hot 100 No. 1s, with Wallen’s new leader just the sixth. Here’s a look at everybody who’s earned the honor:
“Love Somebody,” Morgan Wallen, 2024 “Somebody That I Used to Know,” Gotye feat. Kimbra, 2012 “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me),” Whitney Houston, 1987 “(Hey Won’t You Play) Another Somebody Done Somebody Wrong Song,” B.J. Thomas, 1975 “Everybody Loves Somebody,” Dean Martin, 1964 “Everybody’s Somebody’s Fool,” Connie Francis, 1960
Busy “body”s: Wallen logs the third Hot 100 top 10 titled “Love Somebody.” Rick Springfield took his composition by that name to No. 5 in 1984, followed by Maroon 5’s No. 10 hit in 2013.
‘APT.’ Moves Into Top 10
ROSÉ and Bruno Mars roar onto the Hot 100 at No. 8 with “APT.” Released Oct. 18, the duet debuts with 25 million streams, 3.2 million in airplay audience and 14,000 sold in the U.S.
BLACKPINK member ROSÉ spent one prior week on the Hot 100 as a soloist, when “On the Ground” charted at No. 70 for a week in March 2021. It topped both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. charts upon its debut.
ROSÉ becomes the latest act that primarily records K-pop – and the first woman – to have hit the Hot 100’s top 10. She joins BTS (10 top 10s); BTS members Jung Kook (three) and Jimin (one) as soloists; and PSY (two).
“APT.” introduces ROSÉ’s solo studio album, rosie, due Dec. 6.
Mars, meanwhile, claims his 20th Hot 100 top 10 with “APT.,” becoming the 25th act with 20 or more top 10s. (Drake boasts a record 78.) Having scored his first top 10 in 2010, Mars is one of only seven artists to reach the milestone since then:
76 top 10s over the 2010s & ‘20s, Drake
54, Taylor Swift 26, Justin Bieber 22, Nicki Minaj 21, Ariana Grande 20, Bruno Mars 20, Rihanna
Rest of the Top 10: ‘Tipsy’ & More
Elsewhere in the Hot 100’s top 10, Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” dips to No. 2. It holds for a 13th week at No. 1 on Radio Songs (72.2 million, down 2% week-over-week).
Billie Eilish’s “Birds of a Feather” drops to No. 3 from its No. 2 Hot 100 high. It tops the multimetric Hot Rock & Alternative Songs and Hot Alternative Songs charts for a 12th week each.
Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” descends to No. 5 from its No. 3 best, while her “Taste” falls 8-9, after it debuted at its No. 2 peak.
Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars’ “Die With a Smile” repeats at No. 4 on the Hot 100 after hitting No. 3. With Mars also at No. 8 with “APT.,” he charts two top 10s simultaneously for the first time since March 23, 2013, when “When I Was Your Man” ranked at No. 3 and “Locked Out of Heaven” was No. 10.
Post Malone’s “I Had Some Help,” featuring Wallen, backtracks 5-6 on the Hot 100, following six weeks at No. 1 beginning upon its debut in May.
Teddy Swims’ “Lose Control,” which led the Hot 100 for a week in March, slides 6-7 – and ties for the third-most weeks spent in the top 10 all-time:
57 weeks, “Blinding Lights,” The Weeknd, 2020-21 44, “Stay,” The Kid Laroi & Justin Bieber, 2021-22 41, “Lose Control,” Teddy Swims, 2024 41, “Last Night,” Morgan Wallen, 2023-24 41, “Levitating,” Dua Lipa, 2021
Rounding out the Hot 100’s top 10, Benson Boone’s No. 2-peaking “Beautiful Things” descends 9-10.

How has Belong Together been allowed to re-enter? It has 24 weeks on chart and is barely able to go top 100? It's not like it would go higher the current peak (#74) anytime soon.
