Isn't the vinyls for Die With A Smile going to be released this Friday? So this would increase sales for the song. This should be the push needed to get it to #1 for at least a week. You would think they would delay the release of those with Disease also coming out, as she wouldn't block herself from #1 (if Disease even has any chance at all).
Is there any BTS-style-label-fueled-farm for this song? It just climbed 9 spots to go back to #1 on iTunes. I don't get it. Beating both Love Somebody and APT a year after its release makes no logical sense. "Lose Control" was #11 on the latest Streaming Songs chart (1 spot above "Please Please Please"), and was #10 the week before, so the blame can't solely be placed on radio. People are still choosing to listen to the song. artistry They have a point actually, as much earlier on wasn't there a suspicious number of different versions of Lose Control that popped up on iTunes in attempts to get it to #1? It might also still be fairly high in demand on streaming, but I'd imagine many of those listens are pre-programmed streams, and this still wouldn't explain the sudden jump from #10 back to #1 on iTunes.

Lose Control has been on the Hot 100 for over 60 weeks Is there any BTS-style-label-fueled-farm for this song? It just climbed 9 spots to go back to #1 on iTunes. I don't get it. Beating both Love Somebody and APT a year after its release makes no logical sense. Lose Control was performed last night on The Voice . it has become a popular song on singing competition shows. that and a few other songs performed the past two night.the #6 and #14 songs were performed Monday which is why they dropped today. 1 +8 Teddy Swims - Lose Control 6 -2 Billie Eilish - BIRDS OF A FEATHER 14 -8 Jo Dee Messina & Tim McGraw - Bring On the Rain 18 NEW Louis Armstrong - What a Wonderful World (Single Version) 21 NEW INXS - Never Tear Us Apart

^It really doesn't require much to rise quickly at iTunes given that the number of downloads sold are now minimal for most songs.

An excerpt from the following article:
10/23/2024
‘APT.’ Unlocked: ROSÉ & Bruno Mars Team-Up Starts Off Strong on Streaming
Watch out, Luka Doncic, James Harden and Tyrese Haliburton: as a new NBA season gets underway, Bruno Mars has already become the king of the assist this fall. After teaming up with Lady Gaga on “Die With a Smile,” which has spent its entire nine-week run on the Billboard Hot 100 within the top 10, Mars jumped on “APT.,” the lead single from ROSÉ’s forthcoming debut solo project — and has likely helped the BLACKPINK star score the biggest chart hit of her career so far.
The catchy, clap-along pop collaboration has been one of the biggest streaming hits in both the U.S. and the world since its release last Friday (Oct. 18): in its first four days of release, “APT.” earned 13.32 million U.S. on-demand streams, according to Luminate, while also topping Spotify’s global and U.S. daily streaming charts. Its daily streaming numbers also represent a positive sign for its continued momentum, as “APT.” started with 3.57 million U.S. streams on Friday, and cracked 3 million daily streams for each of the next three days, while also selling 5,700 downloads over that opening four-day period.
We’ll see how high “APT.” can bow on next week’s Hot 100, but there’s a great chance that the Mars assist will help ROSÉ score the highest-charting solo track from a member of K-pop superstars BLACKPINK; “One of the Girls,” the song from The Idol by The Weeknd, JENNIE and Lily Rose Depp, peaked at No. 51 last year, and both ROSÉ and LISA made it to No. 70 with “On the Ground” and “Rockstar,” respectively. Meanwhile, BLACKPINK’s highest-charting Hot 100 hit is their Selena Gomez collaboration “Ice Cream,” which peaked at No. 13. – JASON LIPSHUTZ
And from this other article:
10/23/2024 By Andrew Unterberger
Wallen's "Love Somebody" looks to be the week's biggest debut -- but with a map-crossing pop star duet also creeping up from behind it.
Shaboozey, “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” (American Dogwood/EMPIRE/Magnolia Music)
Shaboozey isn’t laying down for anyone, though – and in fact, he made his most high-profile appearance of the season on Tuesday night, performing “A Bar Song” on TNT before the NBA season officially tipped off with Knicks-Celtics.
Morgan Wallen, “Love Somebody” (Big Loud/Mercury/Republic): It would almost be poetic if the song that prevented – or at least delayed – Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song” from tying the 16-week mark of “Last Night” was actually by Morgan Wallen himself. Wallen should have a chance to go for the block next week following the Friday (Oct. 18) release of his new single “Love Somebody” — his follow-up to the top 10 hit “Lies Lies Lies” — which he extensively teased on TikTok and through live performances, and has an uptempo energy more reminiscent of his recent Hot 100-topping Post Malone teamup “I Had Some Help.”
The song is off to a great start both on streaming — where it’s been No. 1 on Apple Music’s real time chart essentially since its release day, and debuted at No. 1 on Spotify’s Daily Top Songs USA listing (though it’s since slipped to No. 6 there) — and in sales, as it’s been in the top two on iTunes for most of the tracking week. It’s also off to a hot start on radio, with 11.5 million in all-format airplay audience in its first four days (Oct. 18-21), including 10.2 million from reporters to the Country Airplay chart, where it will challenge for an extremely rare debut in the top 10. (He’d be in familiar territory there, however, as both “Lies” and “Help” are currently residing in the top 10.)
Will it be enough to knock off “A Bar Song”? It could be a close race, coming down to the final days – so we’ll see if Wallen and his team have any aces up their sleeve to try to protect their “Last Night” mark. (A Thursday Night Football appearance on Amazon Prime, perhaps?)
ROSÉ & Bruno Mars, “APT.” (Atlantic): A high-profile Bruno Mars pop team-up gets off to a modestly successful start before growing throughout the week and ending up an unexpected challenger for a debut in the Hot 100’s top tier. Sound familiar? Well, just a couple months ago, it was the early story for “Die With a Smile,” Mars’ teamup with fellow pop megastar Lady Gaga, which ultimately debuted at No. 3 on the Hot 100 and has spent the first nine weeks of its chart run in the top 10. Now, it’s déjà vu all over again for Mars – though this time with a duet partner with much less established chart history than Gaga.
“APT.,” Mars’ much-promoted collab with BLACKPINK solo star ROSÉ, debuted at No. 11 on Spotify’s Daily Top Songs USA chart for Friday (Oct. 18) — but by Sunday, it had bounded to No. 1, where it has stayed since. (The song has also been growing on Apple Music, but has yet to crack the real-time chart’s top 50 as of posting.) The song is also selling well, currently residing at No. 3 on iTunes, and is aiming to debut on the Pop Airplay chart after its first week of tracking – which would make it ROSÉ’s first entry on the chart as a soloist. (Her solo history on the Hot 100 has also been relatively muted, with her “On the Ground” peaking at No. 70 – though she’s of course reached the chart’s top 20 as a member of BLACKPINK.)
The song might have started a little too slow to be a real contender for No. 1 next week in its debut – but it could be a second top 10 hit for Mars this year, and if it keeps growing like this, we might still be talking about it in future Contenders columns.

To be fair, the song went #1 organically with no fraud some weeks later as the competition fell off. Funny thing is, Beautiful Things was only 1 point behind it that week; with both songs under Warner, they had to "sacrifice" one of them (by not doing anything), and it was Benson Boone instead of Teddy Swims. Then, several weeks later, it was #10 with MORE points than the week it went #1 (ignoring the Taylor Swift week where it was even lower with more points) Despite the fraud, the song is mostly organic, although it does have high listenership on khia platforms Amazon, Pandora, YT music which no one notices compared to Spotify/Apple.

When was the last time that three different artists had multiple songs in the top 10?

Yeah I agree that LC's success is probably mostly organic, fraud can't keep a song afloat for *this* long. I'm just perplexed how this is going to be the #1 year-end song, and likely a record-breaking chart run, while the song and artist feel like a relative nonevent.

Sure, but that's not an uncommon thing either. The year-end chart rewards longevity (and timing) as much or more than anything, and "Lose Control" has hung around within the exact time frame of the Hot 100 chart year. To me it would fall in line with year-end #1s like "Breathe," "Hanging By a Moment," "Love Yourself," "Levitating," "Last Night," and others that didn't feel like the biggest song of the year, but that had broad general appeal that resulted in longevity.

This. The songs that manage this level of longevity are often the ones that are sort of middle-of-the-road, easy to listen to without being particularly bold or ground breaking. They may not be particularly exciting, but they’re inoffensive enough to be background music for a wide range of people. Basically the playlist to a dentist’s waiting room.

Lose Control has been #1 at AC radio for 13 weeks and will most likely have longevity at that format like alot of recent hits there.

So Kanye makes 7th on the pop star list. Billboard also just revealed the top 6, though it was obvious anyways. I still don’t understand what apparently disqualified Mariah from being a 21st century pop star given the huge success she’s had this century too…

Honestly, I think there’s an argument for 21st century Mariah > Katy tbh. TEOM is overall a bigger era than TD imo (much bigger album sales, one of the biggest hits of all time and 2 additional juggernauts), Mariah has 3-4 other big hits from the 00s as well (similar to Katy’s number outside of the TD era), and she became the definitive Queen of Christmas this century, scoring arguably her biggest #1 yet with AIWFCIY. Something Katy doesn’t have a parallel at all to. Anyways, artists like Bad Bunny and BTS were pretty ridiculous inclusions in a top 25.

And Drake being the only guy prob gives him leverage to get to 2nd, which ugh. I guess I will go ahead and say Billboard does: 6. Beyonce 5. Gaga 4. Britney 3. Rihanna 2. Drake 1. Taylor Though Brit could maybe be as low as 6th given it’s now been a full decade since she was last very relevant on the charts and nearly as long since new music. Rihanna has the advantage of continuing to smash the hell out of streaming with her back catalog.

I mean, I respect your opinion, but not sure about that one. Yes, TEOM has like 3M more pure copies, but TD had EIGHT top 3 hits (every song at least 7x platinum), and Teenage Dream is the highest-certified era in the US. Also, Mariah's "3-4 other big hits from the 00s" are not on the same level as Dark Horse (soon 2x diamond), Roar (highest certified female solo song of all time), Hot N Cold and I Kissed A Girl both diamond songs, plus 7 other top 10-20 songs. Mariah's 2000s success was impressive, considering she RULED the 90s, but I think people always underestimate Katy's level of success because of her 2017- period. This list overall is a mess, but I guess it's based on many factors and not only US exclusive, because Shakira, BTS and Bad Bunny wouldn't be that high. my guess on the top 6: #1 Taylor #2 Drake #3 Beyonce #4 Rihanna (#2 if we are realistic)#5 Britney #6 Gaga

Rihanna as you said has a huge staying power with releasing virtually no new material and still being a MASSIVE streamer rivaling almost any up and coming and popular artist of any genre.
Drake I am shocked is so high. And above Kanye . Personally, I do like Drake over Kanye mainly because Kanye's last several albums have been sloppy and messy but there is no doubt the impact Kanye had on music in the early 2000s.
Taylor is iconic as well but I don't think of "pop star" when I think of her . I think of just a global icon which can be deemed more important or better to others depending on how you look. I honestly dont think she should be #1 for this particular list.
Beyonce changed the game with her surprise release album and visuals. You would never have thought of a major A List artist dropping a full new studio album with NO announcement. It was legendary and truly shocking and changed the entire music industry.
Finally Gagas explosion when she was racking up #1 hits was also one of the most exciting things in music and one of the most exciting album eras with The Fame/Monster since Michael, Janet or Mariah probably. It was just mind blowing what she accomplished in that time frame

I agree about Britney and pop star, that’s why I said #1 can really only be her, Gaga or Rihanna if they want to honor that term. But I’m not holding my breath.

I don't understand Jay-Z being on this list if Mariah is not. He feels as much a part of the 1990s as the 2000s to me (pretty evenly split) if that's a consideration.
BTS deserve to be here if it's worldwide, but not if it's just Billboard U.S.
Also in terms of the U.S., Shakira really only had 1 big album in the U.S. I don't get her being on here over Mariah, Madonna, or even J Lo.

Eminem should be much higher. He and Britney were *the* pop star icons of the 2000s, and the most successful.

pretty good so far.. Wonder who will be 1? I'm assuming the rest of the top 6 will be fairly easy to predict. Gaga, Taylor, Beyonce, Rihanna, Drake, and Britney I’m gonna guess that the top 6 will look like this: 1. Beyonce 2. Taylor Swift 3. Britney 4. Drake 5. Lady Gaga 6. Rihanna

I agree with some opinions in pointing out that 1D, BTS and Bad Bunny are kinda out of place in this top 25.
All of them feel more like a global phenomenon instead of a US-exclusive one, at least when it comes to whether or not they're deserving of a top 25 spot: 1D only lasted a couple of years, BTS only started having regular hits from 2019 onwards (and a lot of them were only able to reach those heights thanks to the over weighting of sales on the Hot 100 formula), and Bad Bunny is a very weird inclussion given that most artists who started in the late 2010s were downgraded to just an honourable mention (like Post Malone and Billie Eilish).
Shakira's mention is also kinda bonkers given that her chart-achievements are weak outside of the latin-focused charts. But truth be told she comes from an era in which latin music didn't enjoy the same crossover appeal as of today, so I'm not that confused when it comes to her inclussion.
