What's great about this whole ABS thing is that it's coming close to tying and even beating "Old Town Road," which took over 20 years to beat the last record ("One Sweet Day"). I wonder if these types of records will be broken more often. I kinda want ABS to get 20 weeks at #1 now. Calling it great is certainly a choice lol. I for one am not looking forward to half a year hot 100 #1s (which is what we may have gotten with ABS if not for holidays).

There was similar discourse last year with 'Last Night' but at least that made some sense. Morgan is a generational country superstar and 2nd only to Taylor in the US
ABS has left 0 imprint on pop culture and yet here it is. Songs like 'HOT TO GO!' felt a lot bigger. Some twilight zone shit

There are culturally impactful number ones and then there are... well, those who aren't.
Out of #1's, I'd say Not Like Us, for example, has a sizable cultural impact, while songs like One More Night by Maroon 5 has basically zero (yet it spent 9 weeks at #1). I would say ABS is somewhere in the middle. It's a country-type genre crossover track by a black artist which is rare for #1, but on the other hand it relies heavily on a sample/interpolation which kind of diminishes its legacy as a song in my books.
Also, there are even more songs that have sizable cultural impact that didn't go number one... like Good Luck Babe, Espresso or Smells Like Teen Spirit lol

Wonder why though. Is Country radio allergic to anything not "bro country"? Given that a lot of the biggest songs on country radio right now are ballads i’d say they aren’t.

There was similar discourse last year with 'Last Night' but at least that made some sense. Morgan is a generational country superstar and 2nd only to Taylor in the US Meanwhile "A Bar Song" has over 900 million Spotify streams and is only 200 million behind "Last Night" (which has 1.1 billion Spotify streams) despite "Last Night" being over 1 full year older. "A Bar Song" will surely pass it in Spotify streams. It has basically the same number of YouTube views, too, though it's harder to compare there since "Last Night" had more of a 'performance' video. Wonder why though. Is Country radio allergic to anything not "bro country"? Given that a lot of the biggest songs on country radio right now are ballads i’d say they aren’t. Can't a ballad be 'bro country' though? I thought 'bro country' was more about the lyrical content. I mean, I agree with the general point that some non-bro country stuff can get radio play on country, but I think a ballad by a man where the woman is simply an object could still far under 'bro country.'

^Well, Wikipedia has the as the basic definition of bro-Country: "Bro-country is a form of country pop originating in the 2010s, and is influenced by 21st-century hip hop, hard rock, and electronica.Bro-country songs are often musically upbeat with lyrics about attractive young women, the consumption of alcohol, partying, blue jeans, boots, and pickup trucks."

I don't want to get political but people saying that Hot To Go! seems like a bigger hit in the US than Tipsy explains A LOT

How many weeks has "A Bar Song" been #1 on overall airplay? And what's the record for that chart? It should easily have enough stamina to keep through to the new year.

^16 weeks so far. It definitely has been the reason it has edged Die with a Smile, given the big gap in weekly airplay. As long as streaming and radio for it don't noticeable take a dive for it over the next few weeks, it definitely would be in the running to rebound to #1 in the Hot 100 once holidays songs got into hibernation.

For example, I’d wager nearly everyone old enough to remember One More Night and remotely exposed to popular music knows that song. I wouldn’t go that far for Not Like Us, on the other hand. I’d say there’s probably a huge chunk of younger and older demos who don’t know that one, whereas a song like OMN was more universal in audience reach. But NLU obviously made way more of an impact in actual conversations and discourse.

If anything, it should be Not Like Us battling with Old Town Road’s record. I wouldn’t be mad about that.

I really hope Lady Gaga & Bruno Mars get a week at #1!
It would mean Gaga has gotten 2 #1s in 3 different decades - 00s ("Just Dance"/"Poker Face"), 10s ("Born This Way"/"Shallow") & 20s ("Rain On Me" & "Die With A Smile").
Plus Bruno's 9th #1! Hoping with his next album he'll get another #1 or two to get into the double digits!

I really, really hope Lady Gaga and Bruno get their well-deserved No.1 spot next week. "Die with a Smile" is a song I can see myself listening for a long, long time!

Lose Control's chart run is honestly disgusting. Idk what it is this decade with these inoffensive but kind of bland male pop songs that stick around for ages and ages, but it’s a real thing. Heat Waves, Stay, As It Was, Lose Control etc. They’ve basically taken over all of the hot 100 longevity records now
