DWAS expected to be the top non Kendrick song - I think there’s a decent chance instead of some very played out song getting an extra week in number one the next year as Christmas music gets out we’ll get a very played out song getting its first week at number one with DWAS

Kendrick having his biggest album bomb with such a weak chart was predictable. The Hot 100 was much stronger when his previous albums were released. Holiday will benefit from that as well starting next week.

Kendrick having his biggest album bomb with such a weak chart was predictable. The Hot 100 was much stronger when his previous albums were released. Holiday will benefit from that as well starting next week. It's weak compared to times earlier this year, but it's actually stronger than the comparable week last year. A year ago, the midweek predictions for the Hot 100 chart week ending with Thanksgiving had "Lovin On Me" at #1 with 193 points. In this week's midweek prediction, both "DWAS" and "ABS" have a higher point prediction than that, as does "AIWFCIY." The #10 song a year ago had a midweek prediction of 135 points. Obviously Kendrick being predicted to be #10 with 196 points is much higher, but the entire top 20 this year is predicted to have a lot more than 135 points. This is just usually a slower time for the Hot 100 in general, but even without Kendrick this was on pace to be a stronger Hot 100 than a year ago.

Not chart-related, but should influence the charts next week. Taylor will release tomorrow an exclusive Target The Official Taylor Swift - The Eras Tour book.
I just heard that apparently, two million of these have been printed. That sound a bit risky, if you ask me as popular as Taylor is. It does seem to be a good holiday gift for any hardcore Taylor fan, though.
Isn't she selling it alongside new vinyls? It will 100% sell out if that's the case

And to think it was only 12 days ago when TOTC jumped ahead: "All I Want For Christmas Is You" and "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree" are predicted to be strong enough for #1 on the chart dated December 7th.' Kednrick had other ideas.
So for those who've been whining up a huge storm about the charts being stagnant, predictable, etc. BOOM! They're not and that's one of the many reasons why so many of us got hooked into chartwatching.

AIWFCIY would also only be strong enough for #3 sans Kendrick anyway Christmas had a really slow start this year, likely or possibly due to Thanksgiving falling later. It's funny how people were replying "omg Mariah top 10 already?!" for this week's early predictions, even though she was #4 a whole week earlier last year, yet barely #10 a week later this year. To be specific, they were more than 25% stronger last year, despite the tracking period only being 2 days offset further from Christmas Day itself (195 pts Dec. 7, 2024 vs 250 pts Dec. 9, 2023)

To be specific, they were more than 25% stronger last year, despite the tracking period only being 2 days offset further from Christmas Day itself (195 pts Dec. 7, 2024 vs 250 pts Dec. 9, 2023) Well, it's hard to compare year-to-year because of the difference in Thanksgiving. "AIWFCIY" was #4 'a week earlier' last year because Thanksgiving was a week earlier. "AIWFCIY" would be predicted to be #3 this year for the comparable week (the week ending with Thanksgiving) if not for Kendrick's album bomb. Here are the comparisons of the midweek projections in terms of chart points: 12/2/23 (week ending with Thanksgiving) - "AIWFCIY" 152 points, "RATCT" 135 points 12/7/24 (week ending with Thanksgiving) - "AIWFCIY" 195 points, "RATCT" 172 points If you simply compare the chart weeks that ended with Thanksgiving, then holiday music is up. At the same time, Thanksgiving this year is closer to Christmas so it makes sense their chart points would be up anyway.

Welcome to Billboard Pro‘s Trending Up newsletter, where we take a closer look at the songs, artists, curiosities and trends that have caught the music industry’s attention.
Kendrick Lamar’s ‘GNX’ Sends Sampled Songs By Luther Vandross, SWV & More Streaming
In the least shocking news of the week, GNX, the surprise new album by Kendrick Lamar, has gotten off to a scorching start on streaming services after dropping out of the sky last Friday (Nov. 22). Through its first four days, GNX earned an eye-popping 242.3 million official on-demand U.S. streams, according to Luminate — never falling below 50 million daily streams through Monday. And the new album is also boosting Lamar’s back catalog aside from GNX, which earned 44.6 million streams from Nov. 22-25, a 10% increase from the same four-day period during the previous week.
Meanwhile, some of the songs sampled across GNX have also enjoyed streaming gains, as listeners peruse the older material that was revived on Lamar’s new LP. With “Squabble Up” eyeing a major debut on the Hot 100 next week, for instance, “When I Hear Music,” the iconic 1984 electro single from Debbie Deb that’s prominently featured in the production, scored a huge boost: 225,000 streams from Nov. 22-25, up 76% from its total from Nov. 15-18 (127,000 streams).
Elsewhere, Luther Vandross’ version of “If This World Were Mine,” which serves as the connective tissue of Lamar’s new SZA collaboration “Luther,” more than doubled its streams from the weekend before GNX arrived (79,000 streams from Nov. 15-18) to last weekend (164,000 streams from Nov. 22-25). And SWV’s 1996 hit “Use Your Heart,” which gets flipped on “Heart Pt. 6,” was also up 25% in streams during those same periods, from 379,000 to 476,000 streams. – JASON LIPSHUTZ
After Bewitching the Global Box Office, Ariana Grande & Cynthia Erivo’s Wicked Soundtrack Soars on Streaming
Wicked – the Jon M. Chu-helmed film adaptation of the 2003 hit Broadway musical – debuted atop the domestic box office with the biggest opening weekend for a Broadway musical adaptation in history ($114 million). The film grossed $164.2 million globally in its first weekend (Nov. 22-25), with strong word of mouth and rave reviews going into Thanksgiving weekend.
Starring Cynthia Erivo (Elphaba) and Ariana Grande (Galinda), Wicked was already spurring streaming increases for the Broadway cast recording before it even hit theaters. In the weekend preceding the film’s release (Nov. 15-18) the original Wicked Broadway cast recording pulled 6.6 million official on-demand U.S. streams, according to Luminate. That number rose by 109% to 13.8 million streams during the film’s opening weekend (Nov. 22-25).
Of course, a new adaptation of Wicked means new interpretations of Stephen Schwartz’s timeless music. Alongside Erivo and Grande, fellow cast members Jonathan Bailey, Jeff Goldblum, Ethan Slater, Peter Dinklage and Michelle Yeoh all lend their voices to the soundtrack. “Defying Gravity,” the song that closes the first act of the musical, is easily the most widely known Wicked song, hence the impressive early performance of Erivo and Grande’s version. Streams for their “Gravity” take remained above one million, increasing with each passing day of the film’s opening weekend. On Monday (Nov. 25), the rousing duet collected 1.8 million official on-demand U.S. streams, marking a 30% increase in streaming activity from the day prior.
The entire new Wicked soundtrack has performed similarly; the set has remained above 7.7 million official on-demand U.S. streams each day since its Nov. 22 release. Monday (Nov. 25) marked the soundtrack’s biggest streaming day so far with over 10.43 million streams earned – a 34% boost from its Sunday streaming total (7.77 million).
As Wicked continues to enrapture audiences, expect the soundtrack to perform strongly as the film barrels towards the Oscars stage next March. – KYLE DENIS

The real news for me in what Baby Yoda Hot100Fan posted is the streams totals those songs were already getting! I would never have predicted "When I Hear Music" was getting over 100k streams a week and that "Use Your Heart" was getting nearly 400k streams a week. Nice to see.

It’s sort of a peek into why the market in general is considered quite healthy from a major label standpoint (and why they seem happy not to rock the boat) even if the currents market is considered slumpy in recent years. Those labels holding a couple hundred decent classics that are in that 100-500k weekly range, that ends up giving them a nice little 8-figure passive income, at least, each month, from the 50% or so of total revenue they keep.
As to the songs themselves, both’s numbers make particular sense to me. When I Hear Music is one of those moderately remembered dance songs, but on streaming services the club-oriented 7 minute edit is the one surfaced first. A 4.5 minute cut is available if you dig, but for the less explorative it’s more likely they’ll just balk, hence the lower but still decent haul last week. Use Your Heart seems higher than average and I think that might have to do with all the buzz about Pharrell Williams’ biopic lately. While a lot of people remember the Human Nature remix of Right Here having Pharrell chant the group’s name, Use Your Heart holds the distinction of being the group’s first single produced by The Neptunes, so it could’ve snagged a lot of curiosity spins that turned into returning plays up to before the album.

^Well. I'm glad that at least someone found my post useful to them. While I have heard Squabble Up, I had no idea it had a sample. Luther and SWV deserve some notoriety even though it might involved sampling. Haven't heard the original Wicked OST but I guess those familiar with it probably revisited it, while those who had never heard it before and watched the new Wicked movie, where probably curious to see how the OSTs compare.
