There was a massive thread on this on the R&R Message Boards and I thought I'd start one here.
For starters, does anyone else think "Bright Lights, Big City" sounds a little like "Drops Of Jupiter"?

This should be moved to the Your Opinion Forum though.
Now that I think about it, "Where Is The Love?" sounds like a horrible City High "What Would You Do?"
Michelle Branch "Are You Happy Now?" reminds me of Sheryl Crow "If It Makes You Happy"

I found Monica's "For You I Will" and Christina's "I Turn To You' very similar. I agree with the the comparison between "Where Is The Love" and "what Would You Do". WITL also reminds me a bit of that song "I'll C U When U Get There" by Coolio...anyone remember that track?
Yeah, Matt, move this thread to "Your Opinion Please". Please.

Kiley Dean's "Who Will I Run To" sounds a lot like Faith Hill's "Where Are You Christmas".

The intro on Chris Cagle's "What A Beautiful Day" sounds like it is part of Vanessa Carlton's "A Thousand Miles".

Most obvious example I can think of is how much the opening of Backstreet Boys' "Drowning" sounded like O-Town's "All Or Nothing"...It's almost impossible to know which song is coming on until the opening line starts...

I know Joe! Someone should sue someone over that! That's too identical!
Jennifer Lopez "If You Had My Love" and "Love Don't Cost A Thing" always get me confused.
And i can identify "I'm Real" and "Aint It Funny" in a second, but i still think they are way too similar (I am talking about the Murder Inc. Remixes).

What about "Angel Of Mine" by Monica and "All I Have To Give" by the Backstreet Boys? I used to have trouble identifying which song was which when they first came out, but eventually, I could tell the difference. As for "All Or Nothing" and "Drowning", I can tell the difference between the songs at the sixth piano note, which is different in both songs. Plus, "Drowning" is in a slightly lower key, but I can't always tell that.

"Love Or Let Me Be Lonely" by Friends Of Distinction sounds suspiciously like "You're All I Need To Get By" Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell.

Aaliyah's "Don't Worry" sounds way too much like Toni Braxton's "Gimme Some."
The bassline of Cyndi Lauper's "Primitive" sounds exactly like the bassline from Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean."
"Undress" by Vanity sounds similar to Cameo's "Word Up."

This are the one's I think are rip-offs...
"Sunny Came Home" and "Breathing" by Lifhouse introductions are almost identical.
"Eternal Flame" ~ The Bangles and "Underneath Your Clothes" ~ Shakira
One's that unintentionally sound similar
"Breathe" by Michelle Branch and "Bigger Than My Body" ~ John Mayer
"Sunny Came Home" and "As I Lay Down" ~ Sophie B. Hawkins
"Hotel Paper" ~ Michelle Branch and "So Far away" ~ Staind

I completely second ulij20's pick of "Angel of Mine"/"All I Have To Give"
Also, The Strokes - "12:51" rips off The Cars' "Just What I Needed" and Sonic Youth's "Bull In The Heather". The intro of "Last Nite" is almost just like Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers' "American Girl"
Just about any industrial metal band to come after 1992 has ripped off Ministry's "Just One Fix" in some way.
"Wide Awake" by Gravity Kills rips off "Free For All" by Ted Nugent.

I just realized how much I think that 3 Doors Down's "Here Without You" and Lonestar's "Amazed" sound a like. "I'm here without you baby" and "Every little thing that you do" if you listen to those parts of the song they sound a lot a like.

I have two songs that I think sound very close, and they're both by Ronnie Milsap. Can anyone guess which two songs I'm thinking of??

"Dirrty" was based on "Let's Get Dirty" if you didn't know. I still think Christina could have done better if she picked another sex rap song like "Hot In Herre" and worked with Nelly instead.

The chorus of Young Gunz: "Can't Stop, Won't Stop" sound similar to Joe Budden featuring Busta Rhymes: "Fire (Yes, Yes Y'all)."

There are so many examples of similar songs, but I can hardly think of any right now.
The verse of Janet Jackson's "Let's Wait Awhile" is identical to that of America's "Today's the Day", I believe (or was it "Daisy Jane"?).
I have marveled over how similar to each other are "I'm Telling You Now" by Freddie & the Dreamers, "How Do You Do It?" by Gerry & the Pacemakers and "A Must to Avoid" by Herman's Hermits.
"Coldhearted" by Paula Abdul sounds very much like "Girlfriend" by Pebbles earlier that year. They even convey the same message.
"Love or Let Me Be Lonely" sounds nothing like "You're All I Need to Get By". Both are great, distinctive songs.

This one will make people think I'm crazy, but...
"Irresistable' by Jessica Simpson and "Going under" by Evanescence.
