This has been the confirmed second single off of their latest albums Black Holes And Revelations.
This song was already in the Top 50 for UK downloads without being released and if you ask me, is the clear cut Multi-Format hit that radio has been waiting for. With the tempo of the song and the time of the year, I think this song could be one of the Modern Rock staples of this decade and that likely this will be a Top 10 on Hot AC and perhaps even a Top 20 on POP.
I am very excited for this song's release. Quite possibly a wild call, but I'm going to say this is going to be one of the Top 10 Hits on Alternative for 2007.

That video bores me, especially after the brilliance that they came up with for Knights Of Cydonia. Another thing that concerns me is the lack of a single remix for this song (for the video at least). I hate the way it ends with Matt Bellamy screaming that last word a cappella. I do like its choice as the second single though. It has the potential to go top 5 easily. Of course, we all thought 'Hysteria' was a surefire #1, and that barely cracked the top ten.

Starlight is going to be the song that finally makes Muse huge in the U.S., and I think considering what's on top of alternative now; this will finally be the one to go #1 for Muse.
I also have to say, I thought I was the only one who thought Hysteria was going to #1.

I hope they choose to release "Supermassive Black Hole" here.
It's undeniable.
KOC is doing pretty well; their album sales could be stronger.

Personally, I'd go with Map Of the Problematique as third single and if there's demand for a fourth, go with Supermassive Black Hole.

^ I'd switch it. "Supermassive..." as the 3rd and "Map..." as the 4th.

For me, it's getting more and more difficult to see the Radiohead influence with each single they release. This, on the contrary, actually sounds like something from Absolution. Most of this album has a more dancey/club-y feel. Love the keyboards in the background here, especially at the end of each chorus. I still don't see how this can do well on the radio, but I've been proved wrong with the success of "Hysteria" and "Knights", so we'll see :)
Why is it that British artists like Keane, Travis, Radiohead, and Muse are all so refreshing to listen to on cold, damp, rainy days? ;)

I don't know about #1, but I do think this will become their highest-peaking single so far.

Love this song... glad to see it's their next single over here. I'm with mjb in thinking (wishfully?) that it could top their previous Modern Rock best of #9.

I don't see this being the surefire hit that everyone is calling. Quite frankly, I could see this equaling "Knights" at best, or even peaking down at, like, #28 at worst.
I love "Map of the Problematique," though. I agree with Duality that "Map" should be the third single, and while I doubt they'll be strong enough to go 4 deep, "Supermassive" would get my nod....eh, maybe "Invincible," since that seems to be highly regarded by fans (which will probably make it the 3rd single.) These guys are really becoming highly respected on a large scale and I really hope their success ends up equaling that. They are a band really pushing rock forward right now.

"Starlight" is unusually ordinary for a Muse song, but since radio tends to play the more ordinary sounding songs (over and over), "Starlight" might do for Muse what "Chasing Cars" is doing for Snow Patrol, and I suppose that would be good, since Muse is one of my favorite current bands, and greatly underplayed. I prefer "Knights Of Cydonia" and "Supermassive Black Hole", however.

It's near the Top 20; I hope it continues to crawl up the charts. I do reckon it's their Coldplay track...minus the huge buzz, of course.
At this point, it would take a miracle to get the album back on the charts. So I say, if there's to be a 3rd single, let's be adventurous and do "Supermassive Black Hole". I can't wait to see the mixed reaction. "THIS SUCKS!...but goddamn I want to dance!"

Listening to "Supermassive Black Hole", I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it either does incredibly well but does not have lasting power as a memorable single, or it bombs completely as a single and on alternative radio.
It's a great dance-pop tune but it doesn't strike me as something that would do great on alternative radio. I actually think it could stand a minor chance at pop radio. But commercially, it likely won't do well. I have no idea what Muse should release as a third single, because every song from the album is equally amazing (as is "Supermassive"). As long as they don't go with the ridiculously long "City of Delusion", I'm fine with anything.
This is perhaps their most mainstream song, but it's still great nonetheless (there, I actually got an opinion in on this single :))

^It's also shorter than KOC. Then again, I never heard the radio version of the song; I imagine it was cut back at least 2 minutes.

I was thinking it was longer than 4:49, since it takes up 11,000KB's on my computer. And now that I look at it, there is actually no song on the album longer than "Knights", which is weird because my computer is close to dysfunctional and there is no time on my Limewire. Whatev. Carry on.

Totally. CD's are the way to go. It looks like this will easily outpeak KOC. I'd love to see this top 3 though.
