"Face Down" was such an unlikely choice of a song to blow up and spend years on the charts, and it did. So is this.

See, now they deserve their own AP cover story. And where is it? It's wasted on... Chiodos. Yet another premature choice.

Premature or premonition? Personally, I think it's better to use magazine covers to hype up-and-coming bands than waste it on bands we see everywhere already anyway.

In my mind, it's always better for cover stories to promote something hot and culturally undeniable rather than hype something that could very easily fall flat on its face. I'd rather read a feature-length article on Paramore right now than one on Chiodos.

So you think it's better to promote what's already popular.

I was so mad when the Chiodos issue arrived. Not only because I barely know who the band is, but also because that cover is hideous. Shirtless men everywhere.

So you think it's better to promote what's already popular. As cover stories, yes. Not only because I barely know who the band is, but also because that cover is hideous. Shirtless , hairy men everywhere. Yeah, I know! A) They played hookless, indistinguishable, chaotic songs when I saw them live and B) Regarding their AP cover, this isn't the 1970's.

See, I think that's ridiculous. It reminds me of when I'd constantly get gaming magazines and every cover story would be the biggest game for that month or next month or a year from then and that meant you'd see the same series every time. They even gave awards for how many times a character made the front page! It was ridiculous!
Personally, I'd like it if more magazines took the less-traveled road and highlighted something unknown, something underground, something that actually needs exposure as opposed to something that already has exposure and therefore doesn't need any more. Why have a dozen White Stripes covers when you could actually be putting covers to use and promoting bands that might need a little push in the eyes of the public? It's like you're using covers as a reward for being famous, which I won't say doesn't make sense, but it's far less beneficial to anybody.
And, I could be wrong, but the fact that a magazine called Alternative Press is highlighting bands off the beaten path doesn't strike me as completely odd.

I'm actually afraid of it making it big on Pop. If it does chart, I hope it goes now further than top 30. Pop has a tendency of really destroying good songs by playing them every hour making sure you get sick of them. I never was tired of "Face Down" until Pop picked it up. I sure hope that doesn't happen to "Misery Business." I'd almost count on it. Exactly, plus this is a little too hard for Pop anyway. Common they needed a guitar down mix just for Paralyzer to chart top 40 and couldn't stomach the 'screaming' that 30 Seconds To Mars delivered in The Kill. They can't even handle new material from Clarkson, common now they are wussies so they wouldn't touch this song Btw think this has a chance at the top? Which reminds me of another question: When was the last time a female act has topped the Alt charts? This song is REALLY good and would be a fresh & exciting #1 but I don't think it stands a chance against Foo Fighters or even getting past LP... At the very least it should go top 5! For some reason I can just see it #1 after Foo Fighters 103942039 weeks on top. My station definately doesn't seem opposed to the idea: KFMA-FM Tucson - 92.1 FM (Alternative) by This Week Spins C&R Home | View Another Station LW: Aug 21 - Aug 27 TW: Aug 28 - Sep 3 Updated: Tue Sep 4 4:05 AM PST Station Rank Spins Audience lw TW Artist Title TW lw +/- Reach/ Mill 1 1 FOO FIGHTERS The Pretender 38 38 0 0.1339 2 2 WHITE STRIPES Icky Thump 38 36 2 0.138 8 3 PARAMORE Misery Business 37 22 15 0.1136 3 4 INCUBUS Oil And Water 36 32 4 0.1323 6 5 LINKIN PARK Bleed It Out 35 26 9 0.1261 6 JIMMY EAT WORLD Big Casino 34 0 34 0.1135 44 7 ANGELS AND AIRWAVES Everything's Magic 31 3 28 0.1088 9 8 MUSE Supermassive Black Hole 31 21 10 0.1031 5 9 THREE DAYS GRACE Never Too Late 27 28 -1 0.0879 7 10 FLYLEAF All Around Me 24 23 1 0.0786 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Give Red Jumpsuit Apparatus enormous credit for their monster year-long hit from last year, and give Paramore credit for leaping up the chart with this ultra-catchy song.
Paramore, the new RJA. :)

So let me get this straight...you're wishing The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus's fate upon Paramore--a band you like--and your face is smiling about it?
Do you work for a major record label, jdma? I can't fathom anyone else wanting that.

But that's how you sell magazines off the newsstand, though. I dunno. I mean, with a regular news or lifestyle magazine I would think you would need headlines that would attract attention but with such a topic-specific magazine I can't help but think people would probably just buy the magazine on their own because they're fans of the subject and like the content. I don't think the headlines would really matter as much.

Just took a survey on RateTheMusic, I guess they're trying to decide on the next single. The choices were "Crushcrushcrush", "Hallelujah", "That's What You Get", and "We Are Broken". I thought "We Are Broken" could make a good pop single and I think "Hallelujah" should be a single at some point, but I voted for "Crushcrushcrush".

I agree, I think that "We Are Broken" would make a good pop single, along with "Hallelujah." If they want another hit on Alternative, they should go with either "Crushcrushcrush" or "That's What You Get." I love all of the songs, but I think "Crushcrushcrush" is their best bet for a solid hit. That song is awesome. I can't imagine anyone disliking that song.

I mentioned this poll on another board and across the board everybody wanted "Crushcrushcrush". If that's not next, then FBR is crazy.
