The fact that she's 18 makes me guilty I haven't been a member of a band yet, despite owning two guitars and a keyboard and having took lessons on each instrument. I do remember being asked to play drums in a band in high school, which would've been great except that I don't know how to play the drums.
And I would say she looks more like pseudo-Ziggy-Stardust-esque David Bowie than a parakeet, but that's just me.

I hope they go with "Born for This" as single #2...CCC gets kinda tiring quickly.

Yeah, I got my issue of AP in the mail today and I now take her and Paramore less seriously because of that horrificly misplaced eye makeup she has on. Seriously, what the fuck is that supposed to be? Did she have to do that for the cover shoot? It looks like she was going for the Paul Stanley, but applied the makeup while riding in a car on a bumpy road.

I read on their livejournal that the AP make-up lady totally messed her up and Hayley tried to fix it but she didn't have time before the cover shoot.
Well, its nice to hear that you have lost respect for an entire band just for silly face art on the singer. Why don't you read the article? You might learn something.

I'm sorry, but I'm just not feelin' it at all. It just doesn't come off as interesting and I am not a fan of the vocalist's voice at all. If I go to Warped I probably will try avoiding them.
I'll pass this, with just about anything else in favor.

Well, its nice to hear that you have lost respect for an entire band just for silly face art on the singer. Yeah, that'll do it. Especially since they didn't seem to be image-oriented or gimmicky at all, prior. And now the first time she's on the cover of AP, she's got this ridiculous blob painted around one eye. WTF. Why don't you read the article? You might learn something. I will, when I get to it. I've got 5 other magazines to read beforehand. I did however, get the rest of the way through the previous AP today, the one with The Used on the cover, where Paramore's new CD was given a lukewarm review. Based on the three singles of theirs I've heard, I thought, "Yeah, that seems about right."

I'll pass this, with just about anything else in favor. I actually think the vocalist is the only thing redeemable about the song. The retro-R&B teasing intro could have had some nice tongue-in-cheek effectiveness if: A) 1000 other retro-R&B 'alternative' songs had already come and gone made the sub-genre out of style, and B) The music would actually metamorphasize into something interesting. Neither one holds true. Nowhere near. If all I'd heard is the instrumental of this track, and I was forced to guess the name of the band, it'd probably take me a 1000 tries. I'd guess each one of the 1000 interchangeable bands that are truly becoming the new post-grunge in that they're killing Alternative music dead in its tracks.

The intro is not "retro-R&B". Not even close! Its Mexican mariachi. Womp...womp.

Says you. It's definitely quasi-retro with that sort of lo-fi echo. The R and B part is questionable but I can picture Gnarls Barkley creating a musical hook like that, which is good enough for me because Gnarls are the retro-R&B leaders of the world, and everyone else is the follower.

Says me? Cuz, yeah, I'm always right. And I am this time. We already went over this on page 1-2. The band themselves said that they brought in mariachi musicians to do a variation of the opening guitar riff in this song. Ay!

Good for them. Did they explain why they chose for the rest of the music to sound exactly like 1000 other bands too?

No, snobs demand for every song to be completely unlike any other sonic creation ever recorded for them to avoid being complete crap. I don't think the song is crap at all (I'd grade it with about a B at this point). I enjoy a lot of music that I wouldn't consider original. I just wish it could have been less glaringly unoriginal, especially coming from relative newcomers to a sub-genre that by now is as stale as chewy Cheerios. Paramore isn't the only guilty party by any means, but I'm more compelled to say something about it here out of sheer disappointment that the band could have ended up right up my alley. I felt the same way about Flyleaf a year ago. Maybe they'll grow into something better. We'll just have to wait and see.

Congrats to Paramore! Misery Business debuts at #37 on Modern Rock, #99 on the Hot 100 and is #82 in its third week on the Pop 100.

Not an awful song, but I don't really see anything special about it.
Also getting some CHR airplay at XM 20 on 20, which is the only place I've heard it so far.

I'm kind of surprised that it's not going for adds yet at Pop stations and has a whopping one play over the past week. I figure it would do very well on that format considering the high number of female fronted artists on there.

Wow, there's a lot of hate going on in this thread. That seems kind of unusual for a new band. Maybe that's the rock genre, though. You peeps are all snobs. ;)

From the impression I've been getting from the general rock audience on here, radio listeners, etc, there seems to be a lot of fans of this and not many haters. There's always going to be some since not everyone can be a fan of anything.

It's nothing special and probably won't get too high on my chart if I chart it at all, but it's a perfectly listenable song.

All this commotion finally got me to listen to this. It's not offensively bad, but it is pretty boring.

I don't see where any of the 'hate' is coming from. Nobody even thinks it's bad. I love it when people act like they understand how to read.

That was probably aimed more at some of the posts above mine than my own, but I probably should have said "people who think the song is overrated" and "people who think the song is underrated" instead of "hate" and "love".
