Does anyone else think that it's horrible? I searched for my Merril Bainbridge topic yesterday with the exact title. I put in the past "300 days" just to be sure. I did topic search, and search for the exact phrase... and it turned up nothing.

I don't think the Search function really works... I've tried using the Search function so many times, and I'm just fed up with the results...

Yeah, it doesn't work. I couldn't find Lene Marlin. Hey, that was what I was searching for too! The search function does work occassionally. I only do topic searches.

It works sometimes. When I searched by topic title it didn't work but when I searched by text in the post it worked!? I haven't tried this more than a few times so not sure if it means anything.

The search function works just great for me! Much better than the old board's.

It's weird becomes sometimes it works amazingly well for me, and other times it doesn't. It's hard if you're trying to search for a thread by its topic title.

Well, I like being able to seach by member, so I don't care if the search function sucks or not (I haven't had a need to try it yet).

This has nothing to do with the search topic, but I didn't really want to create a new thread.
Why did the "issues with the boards" topic get closed? It seems like any new issues that come up should be posted there. Or are you saying that you prefer us to simply start new threads if we have a new "issue"?

It usually works fine for me when I'm specific enough.

The search function here is the best I've experienced. The R&R boards were horrible at this. That other board is mediocre at this.
It's amazing what I found recently. I searched for my username reception, I found that some members are making fun at my username, LOL! It's OK because like Bengino Man once mentioned "it's all good"!

This isn't exactly the Search Function, but rather about the Profile page. When you search all posts on that, why doesn't it show posts made in The Lounge? Or is there something you can do to include those. The reason being, I'm looking for a topic in which I discussed an overprotective parent of a kid I went to college with, but I can't remember which board it was on, but I'm pretty sure it was in The Lounge.

Actually, I just found the topic I was looking for - the overprotective parent post was in the longdong "Post your pics" topic.

I Match all words, Search all posts, search in subject and message, posted in the last 0 hours, 9999 days, display results 200. Hit the search button and wait patiently for the cursor to turn green. I hate it when the Network Error message comes on. But for the most part as I already mentioned, it works for me.

OK, now that I've found the existing topic (was too lazy to scroll down, I guess), how come the search function never almost works?

I have been having some trouble with it too. I was searching for the name Sting, so I could see if there had been any posts in Nostalgia about the song "Desert Rose." I had it match all words, and had it look during the last 500 days. I got all these other ones that contained the word sing, ling, ming, ting, and other words ending in "ing". It was not good.

It doesn't work as well as it should right now, but I still use it all the time. In the box where it says 'Posted within the last,' try putting 0 in hours and 1000 in days. It usually works that way for me. I found a very old topic just now.

Sometimes when I want to make a thread in the Nostalgia section, I search back for the past 500 or 1000 days, and don't get any results.
So I make the thread, and 10 minutes later someone links a thread to a discussion of that song that happened a month ago.
It's not really that big of a deal but I feel kind of dumb and annoying whenever that happens. Because I actually do the search to prevent that kinda thing. And then it happens.
Blah.

This is what normally happens when there are supposedly no results found.
Search Results No Results Found We could not find any posts that matched your search.
As I was searching for an old topic I came across this.
An Error Has Occurred An Error Has Occurred Thread does not exist; news, 10
Even for me the search function can be difficult to master sometimes.

I have some questions relating to the search function.
Today, for example, I did a search for "Smashing Pumpkins" using the pop-up one within the News section, not the one in the menu at the very top of the page. I got this message:
If it helps, I selected the "Search in: Subject" only.
Since there was actually an earlier Smashing Pumpkins thread that I missed, I'm wondering, does the search feature I used have a default time (7 days, a month, a year, the beginning of time?), in which case, it makes sense that nothing turned up. Or are there just occasional glitches with it? This is about the 3rd or 4th time something like this has happened for me in my 4-5 months of posting here.
I'm interested in starting another thread, this time on the Beastie Boys. I did a search and got this result twice:
What does this mean?
FWIW, I just tried the same searches with the search found at the very top of the page, and found a "Beastie Boys - TBD era" thread.
So besides the obvious "Just use that search button, then"... is there something I'm doing wrong in the pop-up search, is it just less reliable... what's up?

I think it works relatively well, but I know that reception has ways of "doing things" with it that, quite frankly, are not natural.
