She's still raking in the dough for them and there's no way in hell they'll let her leave after this GH.

into her career, since Baby One More Time hit in late 1998. There is nothing special about My Prerogative- in that sense, it's standard Britney. She does littoe different or to improve onthe original. And what a HORRENDOUS maneuver to title one's GH after someone else's track. Also, "answer" songs don't go over that well for most acts. Even though it's a cover, the song is related to Spears, and could be read as a media retort. The Hits... One More Time would have been a MUCH better (if not a little obvious, maybe) title.

I read in a magazine, I think US Weekly, Jive had just recently gave her a $12 million three album deal advance.
It's a shame this song is over. It grew on people but radio isn't giving it a proper chance because she is now a joke.

This reminds me a lot of the crap she took when she went on a break after the "Britney" era ended.

I agree, she did go through a lot because of the whole Mexico concert in 2002. I saw parts of that concert and the weather was really bad, and the whole middle finger was just her way of telling off the paparazzi.
Oh yea and I forgot to mention that a Saturday Night Live hosting gig is in the works for her sometime between now and January.

That's why I waited 3 weeks to buy "In The Zone," instead of buying it first week like her second and third albums. >:(

She hasn't broadened her appeal under any circumstances, primarily becuase she's a very mediocre singer, and the 12-24 year olds who dominate CHR/Pop radio's listening audience don't find her interesting anymore.
Doing such an abominable remake doesn't say much about her management either.

CORRECTION: MP peaked at number 22, not 21. Never made a full week at 21. Too bad. Song flopped bad. I think I only heard it two or three times on my local radio station. They are usually Britney-supporters, but not with this song.

Something is wrong when the first single from a purportedly "huge" upcoming album barely outpeaks the fifth single from a six-month old album by the same artist.
Britney needs to understand that her songs aren't going to be instant hits anymore and that she actually needs to WORK to get them as big as they used to be.

No no. She just needs to put out better material. Toxic had little to no promotion. Just an amazing video and an even better song.

Didn't she have a tour to promote "Toxic"?

Sort of. Toxic hit airwaves in January, though. Tours generate album sales, not airplay.

"Toxic" was a fluke. It was so good, radio couldn't not play it. For that reason, they felt obligated to play the sub-par "Everytime." Now that Britney's releasing crap, radio is shunning her as they did in the "Britney" era.

So basically she has to release stellar pop songs in order to get airplay whereas other artists can release garbage and they're fine.

I definitely agree with what you wrote (and have stated such elsewhere). Toxic looks like it was a one-off deal, and then back to the not-so-stellar material.
Britney has never had a huge radio hit on Hot 100 Airplay. Crazy remains her highest-peaking (#6)- that's followed by Baby and Oops (both #8)- and then Toxic (#10), Sometimes (#14) and Everytime (#16). All of these charted in the expanded-Hot-100 airplay-panel era, so the peaks are comparable.
One local station actually has started to spin MP- and hearing it again tonight left me pining for the original. This cover really is pretty awful (like her other covers).

Yeah, but Baby, Oops, and Toxic were all #1 on pop. Please ignore him. The only way he would say anything nice about Britney would be if she did a Tribute song to Madonna.

and she already did that at the 2003 VMAs. Even the duet with Madonna didn't endear Britney to me- if her music was actually of high/decent quality overall, I'd have plenty of great things to say about the gal. But, then again, not every act can have an Immaculate Collection. Really, Mr. Blue Note- you've got to not breing up Madonna every time I say something about Britney or any other female act. That's a trend I've seen others do, as well (bring up an act that has nothing to do with the topic at hand). But, if ya bring it up, I'm gonna comment on it. And someone mentioned that touring- not airplay- boosts album sales- not necessarily. A lot of acts toured and didn't see sales take off in a huge way for their latest albums (even Madonna). It's all dependent on the act, and the album. Look at Nelly- his one album now is benefiting from Over & Over, which is absolutely huge at radio. I'm aware tha Spears has 3 #1s at pop radio- that's great, even if it's really just 2- Baby One More Time/Oops I Did It Again and Toxic. The first two essentially are the same song- I dare anyone to not miss a beat when singing the lyrics of one over the other, using the same melody. It can't be done!

It really is the same song-I denied it for awhile, but my friend sang one over the other one and it fits PERFECTLY. However...I still liked both songs and people recycle things all the time **shrug**
