Universal was saying if it went No. 1 this week it would tie for the quickest climb to No. 1 at Top 40 -- anyone know what was the quickest climb? Universal is probably looking at Billboard's Mainstream Top 40 chart, but on the R&R CHR/Pop chart, "I Will Always Love You" jumped 23-9-1.

I told you so. (Not really, but let a guy brag every once in awhile, okay?)
I am NOT a Nelly fan, but I can tell that "Suit" is far better than "Sweat".
I hate what Nelly's done with this song. First there was the disbelief. "A huge country artist and a huge hip-hop artist singing a duet? WOW! I've got to hear this!" So the stations played is big-time. Yet the song is a perfect example of mediocrity. Tim's chorus is so faded and Nelly's voice so controlled that they sound so similar it's just boring. Of course it's a recipe for quick success, but I would've liked it better if Nelly had just acted like Nelly and Tim just put some real country into it. Of course it probably wouldn't be a huge hit, but at least it would be interesting.

people are saying Tim sings in the chorus- he doesn't actually sing the words "Over and Over," correct/ His is just the faded-out sections? Thank you. :)
The song seems to be pretty popular- DJs in my local area talk about how they love it and all.

Right now, with one day of airplay left, it looks like Nelly/Tim will tie Whitney's climb to No. 1 in 3 weeks on Billboard's Top 40 chart. They are currently sitting at No. 1 w/ a 183 spin lead over Kelly Clarkson...

I've never seen a song rise so quickly. But you know it'll be a quick fall once the hype dies down. The song's awesome, but it's slowly starting to get annoying. When you hear it almost every hour on both your local Pop and Rhythmic stations, the song can get pretty redundant after awhile.

I really don't hear this song on the radio. I hear it once in a while on WKSE but that's it. Flow and z103 havent touched this one at all, as far as I know. But that should change VERY soon, lol. As soon as tomorrow, I'd say.
I heard it on WKSE about an hour ago but in total I've heard this song maybe 5 times on the radio (each time on WKSE)
I really like this song though. I wasnt crazy about it when I bought the album in September but its grown on me alot.
It's rise is very amazing and I'm excited to see it move up the charts the way it is.

It's a grower for sure, but I'm surprised it's doing so well. I can't even really tell who sings what part tho.
In the chorus, Nelly sings the "I think about it" and then Tim sings "over and over again" right? And then Nelly sings "And I can't keep" and Tim sings "picturing you with him"? Right? lol

I decided I like this song, a lot more than most Nelly songs. But the thing is, I know this song will be all we hear for the next 3 months, and since the song is on the simple side, I think overexposure will come a lot faster with this one than most played out songs. I can see myself tired of it by Christmas.

Well definitely by Christmas
I thought Tim McGraw sang the whole hook, but Nelly sings "I think about it", "and I can't keep" and Tim McGraw sings "Cuz it's all in my head" and "Over and over again"

I honestly wouldn't be suprised it this makes top 20 on Hot AC, and just touches the bottom of the country charts. Look at los lonely boys...1st hit, #1 ac, #2 hot ac, gets to about 50 or so on country chart. It currently has 3 stations playing I believe at country. Country has broadened it's horizons. I really wish someone would come up with a station that we could hear a big mesh of songs. Say 1 station plays fast songs...upbeat country (shania for example), and the fast songs on the hot ac and pop charts. Then another "at work" station, playing the slower AC songs and country songs. Haha...this I'd like to see. First Urban invades the pop chart, then it takes over country. LMAO.

Yeah! Of course, my reasoning being "the faster it peaks, the faster it'll burn out and collapse". :)

Should've taken two! I was hoping it made could make it to number one yesterday. I was hoping it would choke and die on its own dry, dusty, lifeless vocals, and hoplessly dreary melody.

Why did all the boring songs get #1 this year (Kelly and Britney excepted)?

From billboard monitor today:
Nelly and Tim McGraw move 7*-1* on the Mainstream Top 40 chart with "Over And Over," breaking multiple records, including the largest position jump to No. 1 and the biggest spin increase for a No. 1 song (+ 1,783 detections). In its fourth chart week, "Over" also ties for quickest ascent to No. 1. Nelly's fourth No. 1 gives him the most by a male artist at the format and ties him for most No. 1's overall with five other female artists, while McGraw becomes the first country artist to hit No. 1 at Mainstream Top 40.

how long has this chart been around? BB has only published a top 40 chart since 11/98 when they redid it. Never knew til about a year ago it was split between rhythym and mainstream either. Someone should post each week or sample weeks or something from years past like in the 80s and early 90s

Billboard's Mainstream Top 40 and Rhythmic Top 40 charts started in late 1992 (November I think?). They were used as a launching pad for Billboard's sister publication Airplay Monitor. AT40 with Shadoe Stevens used the Mainstream Top 40 chart from January 1993 to January 1995.
Yes, you're correct the Top 40 Tracks chart (a combination of Mainstream, Rhythmic, and Adult Top 40) began around the time of the last major Hot 100 revamp in late 1998.

Who else has hit number 1 in 4 weeks? Whitney Houston's "I Waill Always Love You" & Mariah Carey's "Dream Lover" also hit #1 in 4 weeks.
