Has anyone seen an add date for ETS on AC yet?
Also, Rob was on The Today Show this morning singing his Christmas song. A comment was made that STB has sold 3 million copies. I'm sure that's worldwide and that's much better than I would have thought. Way to go Rob. He has more international sales than domestic.

Ok, sorry if this has been posted, but I saw on the World News something that said...coming up, MatchBox 20 calls for a reinvention of music.... Does anyone know what was said...or have a link to the source/article? I had to go and missed it :(

That's probably refering to this article ("Matchbox 20 Hoping for Musical Reinvention"): sg.news.yahoo.com/051220/3/3xehd.htmlBasically, the band wants to come up with a new sound for themselves, something edgier.

Did anyone else see Rob on the Today Show this past week. He sang New York City Christmas and was interviewed briefly. The interviewer said that Rob's album had sold "almost 3 million". I was surprised at that number since the last time I saw anything on his sales it was only like 1.2 million. Anyone have more recent info on the sales of his album?

He meant worldwide for the 3 million number. Album is still around 1.2 million in America.

This album was such a disappointment. I rememebr thinking he'd be huge in 2005, and he's barely passed 1 million?

Has anyone seen an add date for ETS on AC yet? "Ever The Same" went for adds at AC on November 8.

Fans that have called radio stations asking when ETS is going to be added have been told that Atlantic Records isn't pushing the song. It appears as if Atlantic Records has stopped supporting him at radio and has done very little promotion for his album in recent months.
His album is Atlantic Records biggest seller and that's not saying much.

Well, its tough to sell when radio refuses to play your songs. If Rich Girl had completely flopped and Gwen had had no other success with singles, I bet she wouldnt be that much higher than a million. **I am already envisioning someone getting picky-yes I know Lonely No More was a decent hit, but not as big as it could have been and I think he would have REALLY benefitted from Pop giving him another hit.

Pop radio is not going to play ETS without a push from his record label.

"Ever The Same" went for adds at AC on November 8. Wasn't that at Hot AC? I don't think ETS has gotten an adds date on AC. I think Atlantic totally screwed up Rob's album promotion after "Lonely No More." They never really had him push TIHAHB (mostly coasting on the NBA playoffs theme and its occasional play on Desperate Housewives ads) while it was still climbing the charts, and "Ever the Same" has gotten basically no promo other than the AMAs, where it was obviously a hit from the rise in album and single sales after his performance. It sucks that they won't even send it out for adds at pop. He should have sold a lot more of this album. Maybe if he performs at the Grammys since has two noms, he'll pick up a few more sales, but otherwise this era seems pretty much over.

As someone else mentioned, there are 70 or so countries in the world-I dont think its a stretch to think he sold a little less than 2 million in all of them (excluding the US of course) I have no doubts he has shipped or come close to sold 2.5-3 million.

Looking back at the R&R adds page, it went for adds at both AC and Hot AC on November 8.

I think "Lonely No More" was a phenomenal success. I think it even took the label by surprise. It did great on Hot AC and AC. Pop just isn't the same as it used to be. It is more driven by youth, celebrity and the cool-factor rather than on good pop songs, IMO. I really don't expect Rob to do well on Pop ever. I think "Ever The Same" will do really well on Hot AC & AC in the new year too. I always wanted this solo venture to be a success for him and I think he's accomplished that. But I'm kind of glad it isn't a overwhelming smash because of what that would mean to MB20's future. And Rob must be thrilled with two Grammy noms in both pop and rock categories.

Just got it. My first iTunes purchase. It's good. There's a neat demo version of Bent and a jazzy version of This Is How A Heart Breaks. And a cover of Smashing Pumpkins' 1979. And the interview clips are really interesting too. Worth the price.

US album sales this week... 128 124 THOMAS*ROB SOMETHING TO BE 29911 41 21233 1195774Again, I think Rob has done really well. Rob is a 33 year old man and acts like one. I think he'll be happy to leave the TRL performances to Mariah and Gwen. Fact...pop radio sells records. I think Rob's sales are reflective of the amount of pop airplay he received. If you think Rob should sell 3-4 million like Mariah or Kelly who get played on radio all the time, then you probably don't have realistic expectations of where Rob is in his career.

I don't know if the 3 million is correct but it was mentioned on the TV show. I will say that no one really knows how much an artist sells worldwide except for the record company. LNM hit number #1 in 15 countries (per a release by Rob's label). MB20 has always done well in Asia. I would say Rob isn't a superstar in the sense that Gwen and Mariah are but Rob probably does get significant exposure and airplay around the world. I've read posts on Rob's board from people from Brazil, South Africa, China, etc that say Rob is really big in their country (Europe probably being the exception).

Lonely No More is #1 again at AC after all the Christmas playlists have expired. ETS is slowly being added at AC and is gaining on Hot AC. Yeah, Atlantic sucks at promoting him, but it's amazing how his tunes succeed in spite of his label's lack of support. To steal a saying from another world, I think ETS will be a grower, not a show-er. As always with Rob, his talent is a train that can't be stopped.

I think I really need to Clear Channel so I can get their stale sounding L.A. stations to play this song... maybe this will be my secondary project for this month...

Rob is not well know here in Brazil. MTV played "LNM", but he hadn't a hit in brazilian radios. Yes, a couple os people know him here, but he's too far from being a sensation of pop, unfortunetely

For anyone who is interested, the version of ETS that Rob performed on the AMA's is on Rob's Itunes Original album. I might like this version better than the one on the STB album. Also, the cover of Smashing Pumpkins 1979 is really, really good. There's also a new version of TIHAHB. Quite different and darker.

I really like his Itunes Exclusive album. I like the different arrangements of some of the songs, but I also got a kick out of the interview segments. I found it quite interesting to hear how he got into music and how his music developed over the years.

Rob will be on TV a few times this week if you're interested. He'll be on Animal Planet on Sunday Jan 29 on a two-hour show called Trail Mix. It also features Sheryl Crow & Leanne Rimes and others. It's about artists and their horses. I think it's at 8:00 pm.
He'll also be featured in InStyle Celebrity Weddings show on Monday Jan 30 on ABC at 9:00 pm.

Rob will be on Leno on Thursday to perform "Ever the Same."
Tour dates for second leg of STB tour:
I expect he'll be in the audience at the Grammies as well for his two noms. :)
