Wouldnt it be fantastic if Ever the Same becomes a huge hit and fuels the album to 2x?

I just heard that Rob will be releasing a 4th single in Australiia soon. :o It will be......."Something to Be". Wonder if this means anything for the US. I love that song and would love to hear it on the radio here. Rob's touring Australia right now and the album is still doing really well there.

I love that song and would love to hear it on the radio here. Rob's touring Australia right now and the album is still doing really well there. There will only be a fourth single here if "Ever The Same" suddenly surges on CHR/Pop I believe. It's true that Hot AC and CHR/Pop continue to distance themselves as markets, so Hot AC has had the ability lately to single-handedly promote successful albums like the latest from Bon Jovi and Howie Day. But CHR/Pop still matters in milking albums for all they could be worth, so releasing a fourth single solely to Hot AC and expecting to profit from it would be too costly to contemplate. It is disgraceful as it is that only now has "Ever The Same" touched the Top 50 at Pop, but moreover that it's not even being pushed until next month. I think the single has officially been screwed over for ever reaching the Top 10 here, but it can still go Top 30 I think and if it does, a fourth single release might be legitimate, where I'd go for "Streetcorner Symphony" or "Problem Girl". Sincerely, Noah Eaton

Yeah, I'd probably go for Streetcorner Symphony since it does seem like a fun Summer song. And the John Mayer connection can't hurt. Not a big fan of Problem Girl, though. Like it, but don't love it. I do think the video for Ever the Same didn't help it that much. It's kind of boring, IMO. And I still think it looks like Rob has boobs in the shots of him singing into the camera.

^Are you guys insane? "Something To Be" is screaming to be a single! It's such an obvious choice.

You're probably right, but I hate this. I'm very disillusioned by the Pop charts, and hate that a good Hot AC song or album can't drive sales enough to make it on its own (my favorite music tends to Hot AC or AAA).
I think "Something to Be" is a fantastic choice for a 4th single, should we get one. I didn't like "Streetcorner Symphony" as much as others until I saw it in concert, where it was outstanding, a real highlight of the show for me. My AAA station did play "Streetcorner Sympony" quite a bit last fall.

My AAA station did play "Streetcorner Sympony" quite a bit last fall. Would that station happen to be 90.7 KBCO? That's the station I used to tune in all the time when I lived back in Colorado. I'm not sure if any other station played that track. * Anyway, "Something To Be" is a killer track and one of the best from the album, but I disagree with it being a strong lead single candidate. Rob's softer side seems to sell better than his more aggressive side ("Disease" got limited exposure, and "This Is How A Heart Breaks" bombed at Pop). I'd consider "Streetcorner Symphony" my favorite for a possible fourth single, released just in time for the countdown to summer. "Problem Girl" would also work, I believe, because Rob comes out as very empathetic lyrically. There's many children and young adults who are deceived and teased by others and often wonder if it's just them that's the problem. This song has a positive message that hits home to many who fall victim to this confusion. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

^Noah, KFOG in San Francisco was the station playing Streetcorner Symphony last fall. So that makes at least 2 stations that picked this one up. For what it's worth, I think KFOG is a AAA format leader, but I'm not sure.
I see your point that Rob has a better track record with his softer rock on radio. I don't entirely understand that. Example: I think "Disease" is a great song that should have done better.

Considering ETS isn't even going for adds on CHR/Pop for another three weeks, I think it's a little early to think about the next single. STB is probably my favorite song next to ETS on the album though, love the attitude.

from Billboard:
Thomas Tentative On matchbox 20 Reunion December 21, 2006, 1:55 PM ET Gary Graff, Detroit
Rob Thomas is working hard these days. He's just not sure on what.
"I'm kind of thinking about everything at one time," says the matchbox twenty frontman and platinum solo artist. "I'm just writing all the time -- writing, writing, writing. But for me the writing process doesn't have anything to do with whatever my next project is. [Writing] is an ever-going thing, and then whatever my project is I'll see what I'm writing and see if it works or not."
Some are expecting that next project to be matchbox twenty's fourth album, the group's first studio set since 2002's "More Than You Think You Are" and since founding member Adam Gaynor left the band. Thomas acknowledges that "we've been talking about doing some matchbox stuff" and that "the guys in the band are writing," but he claims the quartet has not locked into any specific plans yet.
"We've been really fortunate," explains Thomas, who's also in the process of starting his own record label. "We've been around over 10 years and we've been gone now for a couple of years, so we don't have any reason to do it until we've really got something we stand behind and we love. So who the hell knows what that's going to be."
One place you can hear some new Thomas music is on "American Idol" champ Taylor Hicks self-titled debut album, which was produced by longtime matchbox and Thomas collaborator Matt Serletic and features the Thomas-penned "Dream Myself Awake." Hicks was not the intended recipient for the song, however; Thomas says he wrote it for Aerosmith, but it became available while the group was plotting out its next album and Donnie Ienner parted ways with Columbia Records.
"I'm good friends with (Sony BMG chief and 'Idol' steward) Clive Davis over the years," Thomas says, "and Clive had heard the song and literally started this campaign on me -- 'No, this is my song now. You gotta give me this song!,' and I had no other use for it. So I wound up giving it and Taylor wound up doing it. I haven't heard the finished version yet. I hear he did a good job. But I think if you listen to it you can almost hear it in that kind of 'Angel'/Aerosmith-y way."

I'll take ANYTHING from him - MB20 or solo. I'm so ready for his next project. There was talk at one time that it would be in 2007 but I'm thinking it'll be more 2008 (or late, late 2007).

We will get a new Rob song soon. He's written Little Wonders for the Swiss Family Robinson animated Disney movie. I think the movie comes out in March 2007. Rob said in a MTV interview that we wrote the song while walking his dog. He said it sounds a little like a cross between Jack Johnson and Peter Gabriel.

I just read on Rob's message board that WPLJ in NYC and a station in MA said that they will have Rob's new solo single "soon." So two things, it does look like Little Wonders will be a single and that Rob is performing it.

Quickly becoming my favorite Rob and/or MB20. Very mellow, simple little tune that's great. I wonder how it will be used in the movie? I'm happy for Rob. It did a wonderful job with this song.

Yaaaaaay! New Rob Thomas! Very nice song! Thanks for bringing it over here. I'm glad to have three and 1/2 more minutes of Rob singing something new. I hope it will be played on my local HotAC station.
