From wikipedia: Dallas Austin (born December 29, 1970) is an American songwriter, record producer, and musician, based in Atlanta, Georgia. Some of his most notable clients include TLC, Boyz II Men, P!nk, Monica, Madonna, Gwen Stefani, Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Stacie Orrico, Another Bad Creation, Leona Lewis, Texas, and Brand New Heavies.
As a producer and songwriter, Austin was first noticed and signed to Diva One Music by Joyce Irby (80's all girl band Klymaxx) and has crafted hits for LaFace act TLC (with which he won two Grammies for co-producing CrazySexyCool and FanMail), including the hit singles "Ain't 2 Proud 2 Beg", "What about Your Friends", "Creep", "Silly Ho" and "Unpretty." As a teenager, Irby took Austin to Sylvia Rhone, Motown head Jheryl Busby, LA Reid and Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis asking them to give him a shot as a producer. Other credits of Austin's include the number-two single "Hit 'Em Up Style" recorded by Blu Cantrell, "Don't Let Me Get Me" and "Just like a Pill" by P!nk, and the hit "Secret" by Madonna. In more recent times, Austin's work has returned him to the charts, writing and producing the successful "Trick Me" for Kelis as well as "Left Outside Alone" and "Sick and Tired" for Anastacia.
Austin has tried his hand at remixing for other artists, most notably "They Don't Care About Us" for Michael Jackson and "The Power of Good-Bye" for Madonna.
Austin is also known for socially conscious productions such as TLC's "Unpretty" and "Damaged", and more recently "Ugly" for UK act Sugababes. For the Sugababes, Austin produced several other tracks on their number-one album Taller in More Ways, including the single "Push the Button", which spent three weeks at the top of the UK charts. He also produced the Girls Aloud' Comic Relief collaboration with Sugababes on "Walk This Way". He is also responsible for producing Gwen Stefani's single "Cool" from her Love.Angel. Music.Baby. album.

This album is going to be frickin' amazing. Her "I'm Not Dead" for sure, except without poor P!nk's initial struggle (it really is weird how similar their careers have been).

The wait is tiresome, though. Especially after the mess of "My December."

My December = Quality Album. I fifth that- 'My December' is my favourite record that Kelly has put out, because if I found the record as a whole to be lyrically far more personal and relatable, stripped down in terms of production, and lastly because the best song she has ever put out IMO ('Sober') is on that record. I loved 'Breakaway' as a record, which I think had that magical ability to appeal to older, middle, and tween/teen/early adult crowds. By contrast, 'My December' is more of an adult record, as many of the emotions on the record are mature. Because of this relatability and because I am generally but not exclusively partial to alternative/rock music over pop , 'My December' was the better record to these ears (that's how good it was as 'Breakaway' was top notch to me also).....

I think Breakaway >>>>>> My December If you don't mind my asking, would you mind sharing your age or a range of age you are in ? I am just asking because I am curious if my theory of 'Breakaway' vs. 'My December' demographics is correct. If you do not wish to post it out here, feel free to PM me if you are comfortable with that. Thanks !

I prefer Breakaway to My December but the latter is a competent album in its' own right. It definitely deserved to fair better both critically and commercially.
I believe there was a negative, knee-jerk response to the album was sort of knee-jerk because it came from a darker place. The album wasn't given much of a chance. I see it sort of as her equivalent to Nelly Furtado's Folklore.

Not to dis anyone here, but could we please put the debate about 'My December' to bed once and for all? That era is what it is, and nothing's gonna change that now.
It's time to look forward to a new era for Kelly, one that I hope brings a smash greater than all of her previous albums combined. It's fun to be once again getting news of who she's working with for the new album, as well as snippets of what the songs might be and the very early reaction to them from people close to or involved with its production. It's fun to be looking forward to the release of her new single, maybe in just two or three months.
On to the future, Kelly girl. Make it a super smash.

That's more what I meant- I've said in the past I liked the album and "Sober" is her best song- but it was hard to enjoy the era because it was so stressed and they killed the album off before people really got to hear it - I felt always on the defensive- it came and went in a flash and there was not much enjoyment in it- and "Sober," the best song of the year- got totally screwed over.

I mean no disrespect in saying this, but this discussion of an artist's previous record with respect to our own desires of what we, the consumer, wish the next record to be is quite relevant, IMO. I understand wholly that the 'My December' era is closed but that closure will impact discussion in a time when the upcoming record is being is being sculpted, IMO. I'm not a moderator, but it seems natural discussions such as these do not violate any PULSE policies ??? But, I'm with you on that thought of a possible new singlein 2-3 more months !!!!!

I would love for Kelly to put out a new single NOW! Radio is slow at the moment, and it would surely eat it up. Plus, if the rumors are true and they have a smash track, why wait?

The woes of My December will forever be embedded in my heart. I love it so and I hate that it got the bad rap that it did. Oh well. Shit happens.
