Doing math, would that make Train #10 one hundred times better than Suspicions and Kristofferson? Sounds about right to me. Anyway, I'll be upset if this doesn't make the top 5. I'd just hate to see Tim's career completely crumble. I definately think top 10 is likely though. Anyway, if Train #10 is released after this and makes it to #1 I'll definately be a happy camper. If "Kristofferson" could make top 20 I don't see why this can't make top 10 (and HOPEFULLY top 5!).

The top 20 at Country Aircheck/Mediabase just underwent a major housecleaning, with five songs falling off the charts by going recurrent.
Look for this song to scoot into the top ten that much quicker.

This has to be his fastest-rising solo single in well over a year; it would appear that this song has the potential to be a top-five smash.
Better late than never, huh?

I'm just bummed that he had to put out something generic to save himself. This isn't the time to be picky. Seriously, they had to do something and it worked. I don't think this song is anymore generic than a lot of the other songs on the charts right now.

Although it's only a couple of weeks away from the top ten, and 1,200+ spins behind Carrie Underwood, I wouldn't be surprised if some or all of the new singles by Rascal Flatts, Taylor Swift, Sugarland & the Keith Urban/Brad Paisley duet blow by him on the charts.
Ordinarily, I'd expect McGraw to follow Ms. Underwood to #1, but I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't get there thanks to those four new singles hitting radio almost simultaneously.

With Let It Go apparently moving up to #9 on Billboard (from the Hit Predictor chart), Timmy returns to the top ten for the first time in 46 weeks, since If You're Reading This's final week on the chart, at #9, on 11/17/07. That's easily his longest absence from the top 10 (thanks to Suspicions and Kristofferson), over the 25-week span between Back When's #10 on 2/5/05 and Do You Want Fries With That's #8 on 8/6/05.
This is Timmy's 42nd top 10, tying him for 25th place all-time, with Hank Jr and Willie Nelson.
I don't think Let It Go will be able to end the other drought of Timmy's, the 78 Billboard chart weeks it's been since he was last at #1, Last Dollar on 4/14/07. That's the second longest #1 drought of Timmy's career, behind the 120 weeks between Last Dollar and Back When, and in front of the 55 weeks between Unbroken and Real Good Man. More than likely, it will be up to the lead single of his next new album, after the Greatest Hits 3 comes out. I would guess the drought will reach at least 100 weeks, until late-March, as I wouldn't think they'd release that new lead single until after Christmas.

Thanks for the information and your thoughts. I don’t look for this song to even make Top 5, but that doesn’t stop me from rooting for it. On one hand, chart positions shouldn’t mean much. By that I mean I don’t agree with some that have made it to #1 so where a song charts doesn’t really matter in the sense of whether I like a song or not. Then, on the other hand, you throw in Whitburn’s chart and it does matter somewhat, or at least makes it more interesting. Now, if you would just quit calling him “Timmy”...

Now, if you would just quit calling him “Timmy”... Sorry, it's a package deal! From time to time, I provide halfway interesting chart stats, including my semiannual tracking of the vaunted Whitburn list, and in exchange I get to make fun of my least favorite country artist with a snarky "nickname". That sounds fair, right??!!

Fair? I know, life ain't fair, but I would enjoy your posts more, both here and over on George's and Keith's boards, if you didn't. But, as you said, it's a package deal and if I want to read your stats and analysis, I'll continue to deal with it. :)

In other words, a megacolossal waste of time.
Why is Curb Records 'cash-strapped' in the first place?

In other words, a megacolossal waste of time. Why is Curb Records 'cash-strapped' in the first place? 1.) All the unreleased material in their vaults (so much from Steve Holy and Amy Dalley especially). I think Amy Dalley has enough released material to make a box set. 2.) Stupid GH projects like this. 3.) Tim is their only breadwinner, and he's declining in popularity big time. If he leaves, the label knows they're [bad word] out of luck, especially now that Jo Dee is done. And yet even so, they're slowly shredding Timmy's career too.

I don't think he's declining in popularity; whoever has been choosing several of his last seveal singles needs to be slapped and fired.
His next single is going to be crucial to keeping him at the top of the format; he has slipped to fourth in spins this year (through August 31st) after finishing second in 2007.

I think Tim has always had poor single choices that I've never understood. Why wasn't Take Me Away From Here from Set This Circus Down ever released? Do You Want Fries With That and My Old Friend were released from Live Like You Were Dying instead of How Bad Do You Want It and Blank Sheet of Paper. And now, Suspicions over Train #10? The single choices are almost as bad as Rascal Flatts' choices.

What? 27 #1's (last I recall). Pretty dang good. There are a few things that didn't work out as far as singles but there is a lot that has gone right. I'm amazed by his career and what he still is doing. His greatest hits (both) has sold over 8 million..that's more then some artirst whole careers. He's doing movies, commercials, writing his first books, producing, writing songs,co running his lable. His tour was a big success for the amount of dates he did and no big artist opening for him. On top of that..quiet a few of his #1's got there without videos. I don't know many artirst that can do that. While the height of his career has already came..it's far from over.

^ By my calculation, Tim has 21 #1's to date (22 if you count Jo Dee's Bring On The Rain).

"Can't Be Really Gone", "One of These Days", and "She's My Kind of Rain" were all #1 on R&R (according to Mike Curb's website), so that's 25. "Maybe We Should Just Sleep on It" and "When the Stars Go Blue" both went to #1 in Canada, so there's your 27. Nelly's "Over and Over" was also a #1 on the Pop 100, but I'm assuming 1faithfan iss counting just country #1's.

He has one more #1 at R&R than he does at Billboard.
Since this tune reached #5 on 'CT40' over the weekend, does anyone know how many top five singles he now has?

I can't believe this song caught on after his last couple songs flopped, or they flopped for a guy of Tim's caliber anyway. Maybe it's just me, but I thought Kristofferson and especially Suspicions were much better than this. It's not a bad song, just generic.

Let's see. Tim has 22 Billboard #1's, plus 16 additional Top 5's (counting "Just to Hear You Say That You Love Me" and "Like We Never Loved at All"), so that's 38 Top 5 hits counting "Let It Go". I can't believe this song caught on after his last couple songs flopped, or they flopped for a guy of Tim's caliber anyway. Maybe it's just me, but I thought Kristofferson and especially Suspicions were much better than this. It's not a bad song, just generic. I think this one caught on because it's more generic (lyrically, at least).

Still doing fairly well, they should release a Christmas version to give it that extra push to number one:
"Gonna let it snow-oh-oooooh-oh-yeah"
lol

It would appear as though the #1 slot is his for the taking, either this weekend or next.
It's been almost 100 weeks since 'Last Dollar' hit #1, hasn't it?

So as of this week, Timmy has scored only one #1 in the last 207 weeks (just shy of four years), after scoring ten #1s in the previous 210 weeks, 12/16/00 to 12/18/04 (right at four years).

Well he has stalled @ #2 at Country Aircheck/; does he have a shot @ #1 @ Billboard?

Okay Tim, time for a new single, and it had better be a really good one.
At least 'Let It Go' brought him back to life on the charts after the horrendous underachievemts of his two previous singles.

I guess it's too much to ask for "Between The River And Me" to finally see a release.
