Awww...I know the other part of the clue (the #1 song of 1981), but I can't think of what came before that.

Only songs 60, 57 and 56 were guessed correctly. It's true that "While You See A Chance" hit #1 before "Bette Davis Eyes", but not right before. At least two songs came between those two.
59) This group's first hit was in late 1975. Their first number one came a year and a half later.
58) This artist hasn't had much new material out lately, but he has been hitting the chart since the 1960s. It would be a miracle if his voice lasted this long.

Nope. That song was already back at #83.

Nope. That song was already back at #83. Thats what I get for not paying attention. 1975 was their first single....Gotta be Fleetwood Mac's "Hold Me"

That's right. Now all we need is song #58.
(Hint: Read every single word in the last clue I gave for that song.)

58) Smokey Robinson, "Being With You"
(ETA: Interestingly, Smokey originally wrote this song for Kim Carnes, who replaced him on top...)

Yes, indeed! And now we approach the halfway mark:
55) This song, from late 1985 was by a group many consider to be a one-hit wonder, but they actually had a second hit in early 1986, which hit the Top 20 on R&R. However, no stations play it anymore, so that's why they think the song in question is their only hit.
54) This song encourages all people to relish their teenage years instead of being in such a hurry to be an adult.
53) This song was heard at the Cafe 80s in the movie "Back To The Future II"
52) And this song was from the first BTF movie.
51) This was the first hit by a group whose last Top 40 hit was another song with the title of song #52.
GOOD LUCK!

55. A-Ha - Take on Me 52. Huey Lewis & The News - The Power of Love (I think it is, I'm pretty sure this was in the first and not the second)

51) This was the first hit by a group whose last Top 40 hit was another song with the title of song #52. I'll go with "Lost In Love" by Air Supply, although I'm pretty sure their "Power Of Love" missed the Top 40.

Oops! I was thinking of "Just As I Am", which preceded "Power Of Love".
Moreover, "Power Of Love" wasn't their last Hot 100 hit either; in the summer of 1986, they had a mid-charter called "Lonely Is The Night". Anyway, "Lost In Love" is the correct answer for #51.
A few easier clues:
54) The singer of this song had his name changed per his manager's command; otherwise, he was outta there!
53) As I said, this song was playing when Marty McFly walked into the Cafe 80's, pretending to be his look-alike son to help stop him from going to prison with Griff Tannen's gang. The song sort of set the mood for what was about to happen.
GOOD LUCK!!

Yes! Now we kick off the second half of the chart!
50) A song by a man who was all over the charts in the 1970s and also did a good job in the 80s, with two solo number one hits. This song, however, wasn't one of them, as it stopped at number two for multiple weeks in 1982.
49) This song has a spoken word part at the beginning that, in some versions, has the song start up as it's running, which sort of takes away from the song.
48) I was so hoping that this would be the number one song of 1985. It did, however, spend more weeks at number one than any other song that year.
47) This song was also a multiple weeker at number two, in 1980. It was the artist's debut single.
46) The man who sang this song provided back-up vocals for song #47.
GOOD LUCK!!

I was too young to remember much of the 80's, seeing I was born 1986. Anyway, I remember Tiffany, Janet, Paula, Michael, Brenda K. Starr, um... ugh, I'm just not good that far back... ???

friday, the only song you got right was "Ride Like The Wind". "The Girl Is Mine" did not make my chart. The spoken word part of the song in question comes near the beginning - the part where Paul and Michael are talking about not fighting is near the end. BTW, there are very few non-number one songs left. In the Top 50, there are only three, and you've already covered one of them. And Captain K, I forgot to mention that you got "Can't Fight This Feeling" right (and sorry, I just couldn't resist that crack about the 60s ) If nobody guesses by tomorrow, I'll post easier clues then. GOOD LUCK!!

...don't think so, I think 49's "Let's Go Crazy" by Prince.
50 is "That Girl" by Stevie Wonder. 46 is "I Keep Forgetting" by Michael McDonald

Sorry it took so long...
45) This song hit #1 soon after the last day in the life of the man who sings it.
44) This song would have been the top song of 1986 had its entire chart run been figured in (it ranked somewhere in the 30s instead).
43) This song was remade by Take 6 in the mid-90s.
42) Another song that was remade in the 90s, but this one was made into a rap song.
41) This song, from the early 1980s, sounded like something Elvis should have recorded.
GOOD LUCK!!
