Jimmy was right with all three of his guesses ("You Got It" only peaked at #14 - not sure if it's even in the Top Thousand of the 1980s. ;) )
(Some of you may have noticed my subtle reference to Lennon in my clue.)

That's correct as well.
Now, all we need is song #42, which I thought would have been one of the first ones guessed.

An easier clue from #42: The artist of this song (which is a rap song, remember) had his own TV sitcom.

That's right (heh, almost forgot that it was the Grover Washington, jr song!)
40) This song is from a 1985 movie that starred the artist who sang it.
39) This was the second of two number one songs this group had within a year and it sounded a lot like the first.
38) This was the biggest hit of the decade for this Tuskegee Alabama native.
37) Jeffrey Dahmer was considered one of these.
36) This singer, now deceased, dedicated this song to his wife.
GOOD LUCK!!

Very good, Jimmy and Aaron.
An easier clue for #39: It was from one of the two years that AT40 Flashback nixed about halfway through its run.

39. Hall & Oates - I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)
When I saw Aaron's guess, I remembered that this hit #1 six weeks after Private Eyes gave it up to Foreigner.
I just hope Aaron's guess didn't inadvertently steer me down the wrong path again...

Oops! I forgot that Hall & Oates had three number one songs in 1981, since "I Can't Go For That" had most of its run in 1982.
Anyway, "Private Eyes" is the correct answer.
35) This song was recorded to help to raise awareness of the plight of the homeless.
34) A song about the singer trying to clear himself of a paternity allegation.
33) Is this song about Eric Clapton?
32) This song was from a 1983 movie that had another number one song, just eight weeks before.
31) This song was one of the biggest songs of 1980, by an artist who started hitting the charts in 1974, but didn't have their first Top Ten until four years later.
GOOD LUCK!!

Those are indeed correct!
Earlier in the game, Captain K asked if, since we already covered R&R's #1 song of 1989, then we'd covered all of 1989's songs and I said that there was still a holdover from 1989 left. "Another Day In Paradise" was that song. So we are now finished with 1989, as well as the other years of the latter half of the 1980s. From here on out, the range of years is 1980 through 1984.
30) This song was penned by a man who has also written songs for Air Supply, Barry Manilow, and Celine Dion (and, no, it ain't Mr. Diane Warren!)
29) This song was the leadoff single for one of the hottest soundtracks of the 1980s.
28) The first verse of this song, with slightly rearranged lyrics, was a prelude (called "A.D. 1928") to another song by this band.
27) In this song, I learned that I'd better eat the main course before even thinking of touching the dessert.
26) This was the biggest song on the R&R chart (in the 1980s, anyway) by the artist with Billboard's biggest song of the same decade.
GOOD LUCK!!

:o at Another Day in Paradise being so far ahead of Miss You Much.
29. Irene Cara - Flashdance...What a Feeling (I doubt it, but it's all I can think of ) 26. Survivor - Eye of the Tiger (I remember hearing that this was the biggest song of the 80s according to Billboard and being really annoyed by that fact)

I was going to mention Meat Loaf, but I thought might make it too obvious. Song #29 is indeed that other big hit from the same year as "Footloose". And you got song #27 correct ("IF YOU DON'T EAT YOUR MEAT, YOU CAN'T HAVE ANY PUDDING! HOW CAN YOU HAVE ANY PUDDING IF YOU DON'T EAT YOUR MEAT!!")

Survivor - Eye of the Tiger (I remember hearing that this was the biggest song of the 80s according to Billboard and being really annoyed by that fact)
Uh, "Eye Of The Tiger" was not the top song of the 1980s according to Billboard. In fact, on AT40's Independence Day '87 special, "The Top 40 Hits Of The 1980s - So Far", which used Billboard's rankings as a basis, it was rather far from it. As I recall, it only came in at number nine or ten. And actually, "Another Day In Paradise" was a much bigger hit than "Miss You Much". It spent two more weeks at number one and one more week in the Top Ten. However, since it came out at the end of 1989, part of its chart run was during that year and the other part was in 1990 (in fact, it came in at number 41 or so for 1990). It was included in the 1980s countdown because most of its chart run was within the calendar year of 1989 (It ranked so high on the R&R year-end chart for 1990 because the chart year started in early December). So, songs 30 and 27 have been guessed right and #29 is on the verge of being guessed right. 28 and 26 also remain.

Great! Now for the next batch:
25) This was the biggest non-number one song to make this chart. Its ten weeks in the Top Ten and sixteen weeks on the chart helped it to place this high on the countdown. This song did hit #1 on Billboard.
24) This song, a theme from a big movie, has two different versions. The intro to one has drum beats and then the electric guitar starts playing. The other one goes right into the guitar before the drums kick in.
23) Close your eyes when hearing this relaxing song and you can feel like you're doing what the artist is singing about.
22) This song, by a rock band that was huge in the 1980s, inquires which person is shedding tears at this time.
21) The title of this song - a souvenir of a tussle in the jungle, perhaps?
GOOD LUCK!!

Very good! Had I given an easier clue about #25, you probably would have gotten them all.
Slightly easier clue: This song was #1 on AT40 Flashback during its only week at number one.

Easier clue for #25: This was the first of four singles from the album from which it came. It was a ballad, as was the second song, which went top five. The third was a mid-tempo song and the fourth release had sort of a sixties flavor to it. Both songs peaked in the Top 20.

You're correct on both counts. Number 25 is "Keep On Loving You" and I do believe that "Take It On The Run" is categorized as a ballad. The strong guitar solo near the end can fool people sometimes.
From here on out, it's all number one songs, and every song has spent at least three weeks on top.
20) This song was the biggest hit of the 80s for this Englishman (he had an even bigger hit at the end of the 90s, but only at AC radio)
19) This song, from a legendary rock band who switched lead singers in the mid-80s, sounded more like a commercial to me than a song.
18) This was the second of two duets in the 80s by two of the most successful pop singers of all time.
17) This song sounds a lot like "Feelings" by Morris Albert, though not quite as cheesy.
16) I was glad when this song hit #1 in 1981. Such good hits as this are too few.
GOOD LUCK!!
