are u guys just saying digital sales more important than airplay cuz NA is flopping? RCA never care about hot100, it's all about mediabase airplay top 40 No, i was just supporting the idea that sales are always more important than airplay. if you arent selling you wont make it, thats fact. Billboard is more than sales so that irrelevant. Airplay is in that too. NA is not flopping, its struggling. Huge difference since its still not dead and its been out for a month.

I'm not saying that one is more important than the other. They both have their merit.
FACT: Just because a song makes it to top 10 doesn't guarantee it will lead to huge sales. There have been quite a few songs, actually, that have been very popular on radio but people just don't want to buy the cd because of it. The more a song is out there, for the public to hear, the BETTER the chance they will want to buy the cd with the song on it (or just the song itself) but nothing is guaranteed.
On the other hand, if people are willing to shell out 99 cents for one song (before the cd is available), I think it increases the odds that they will consider buying the whole cd, for $9.99, once it's released.
So I think both are important, in their own way. Radio play IS important for the sales of cd's - why would someone buy a cd if they have never heard any songs from it? Radio is the biggest and best media to get songs heard - but it's not the only media. TV appearances, Videos on Video Music Channels, etc, etc, - heck even good reviews in print media to an extent - all get the song out there for the general public to hear and possibly buy the cd.
POP, IMO, IS the queen of all radio - the most bang for your spins audience wise. But artists CAN succeed without POP radio play - the sales success just might not be as big as it would be with POP play.
I mean country cd's seem to be selling good (and are some of the healthiest sellers right now) and their maximum audience is just over half what the maximum audience is for POP. It's more how you resonate with the audience you reach then it is the sheer number of people IMO.

Aww I wanted her to perform something new, this performance probably wont do much for airplay but should see a smashing increase in sales.

She is so ... P!nk, lately! "I am 'big' enough I do my thing, give my fans what feels best and if success comes with it, GOOD! ... if not, next time, folks!" I love her!

I hope she has a cute outfit on this time. If not, that's all anyone will talk about the next day. lol! And I like the short curly hair - it's cute! I'm not worried about her voice at all for some reason. I think she's well-rested, as long as she wasn't out partying last night.

I'm hoping she can sound somewhere like she did on Ellen. The Ellen performance was good up until the last choruses. The begining was fantastic, though.

I don't think she will have to go though ALL that! I just LOVE her even more for feeling strong enough to give to the fans HER music and not what others think she should give. Radio might not respect that, but fans do. She had to flop at some point like any other big top 40 artist but talents like her always find the way to recover ... radio will always be there for that. :)

I'm very excited to see Kelly perform this song tonight on Idol!
I don't think it's gonna have much of an impact on radio play but who knows, stranger things have happened.
I think if this single continues to sell well it'll help CD sales. and I think this song will have no trouble selling 500K and getting gold certification.

ok everyone considered "maneater" a flop because it was, now it probably sold very well as a single and was a massive hit in the uk and europe. maneater was a flop and on radio it preformed the same as NA so therefore NA is a flop!!!
You can't compare songs like that though. Every single song that's released is released under it's own situation. Lead-off singles have a certain amount of pressure to perform well, especially when they're anticipated leadoff singles. It all depends on the situation of the artist and the song and the amount of promotion put into each.

^so do digital sales. Airplay is just promotion. Digital sales is money in the bank. If the Federal exception to royalties is pulled, airplay will not only mean promotion to lead to money in the bank but it will also mean immediate money in the bank for artists and preformers as well - becoming a more important factor.

Why do people put so much energy into ratethemusic or call out scores when they have proved nothing time and time again in the past? I really don't get it. It means NOTHING. It never has, and it never will.

By putting so much energy do you mean posting results? Cause people do stuff like that all the time. Saying you heard a song on the radio and the DJ said it rocked means nothing too, but I may come and post that in a song's thread.

It never has, and it never will. Excuse you but the #1 songs on the pop charts this past year have always been high PRIOR to its #1 success on here and like LPL said its nothing energy or time consuming. They aren't 'meaningless', executives and promo people USE it. It can't even be manipulated or multiplied like voting multiple times or requesting, you are given about 35 to 40ish songs and you rate them ONCE per week. Nothing fan devoted at all lol.

Her voice has always been like this, it doesnt sound like it on her albums because she is not straining as much because of course she can record different parts at different times.

Kelly just isn't a good Live Performer...she sounds much better Recorded. She has a beautiful voice, but it just doesn't hold up well. When I saw her during the Addicted Tour, she would hold out the Mic and have the audience sing the high notes. I don't know if I'm going to go and see her this Tour...just didn't feel like it was worth it when she is only on stage for an hour or less.

I saw her on tour in the UK and thought her voice sounded amazing and her voice has sounded great for all of her NA performances I think. She's not a very exciting performer but she always delivers. Not seen AI yet.

Not seen AI yet. I saw her towards the end of the Tour and her voice was pretty rough. I have no idea. Her previous Tours her set have pretty short. Most Concerts I go to the Headliner usually does close to 2 hours.

I've seen Kelly live a few times, and 95% of the time, I love the live versions of her songs a lot more than the recorded versions.
