^^ Where are people calling her "America's Sweetheart"? I think only one person, eyeMAX, used the "America's darling" thing.
I consider Perez Hilton to be the Fox News of the gossip world. Popular, yes. But also shitastic beyond belief.

There can only be one American sweetheart during an era, and right now it's Carrie Underwood. I wish you'd leave Carrie out of this. I feel you choose your words carefully just to stir up things. And Perez Hilton is a joke. The fact that an overweight gay male would continuously attack people for their weight or perceived homosexuality speaks to his own insecurities and self-loathing. I hardly think Kelly's losing a second of sleep over what this idiot has to say.

I'd actually be ok if it was a "Try This", I liked the album and it did get Pink a grammy win. As to the press, there was a definite backlash in the press at the beginning of this era. First for her weight/looks, then for the album fight with Clive. I stopped listening to the radio for a while because that's all people seemed to be able to talk about. But it seemed to have to done a 180 for now. More people seem to be on Kelly's side, now this may change if people don't like the album, but for now, with a few exceptions the press seems to be backing Kelly. For example, her appearance on Idol had a lot of positive reviews. There were a few negative ones (primarily about her weight, some about the song/vocals) but for every negative review there were like 50 positive ones. I agree completely. "Try This" is better than "M!ssundaztood" once people actually take away the commercial success of the latter. Kelly needs to grow up and move on to. She is best accepting that its best to have less success with an album that will lead her to greater things, than an album that will leave her in the same place.

^^ Debbie, I completely agree with you. I think "M!ssundaztood" was a good CD, but I thought TT was a great CD.
And now for some depressing numbers. *sigh*

It's not decreasing as fast as I thought it would. I thought it would've gone -1000 really quickly.

But after NA shooting up the charts then dying just as fast, I'm a little afraid of being too optimistic. I'm taking country BOY one day at a time.

Oh and I should add that after Clive's remarks on American Idol, I want even more for BOY to become a success on the country charts because Kelly penned it. The chances may be slim but if it could win yet another award in another genre, it further validates Kelly.

I'm really enjoying reading all the positive backlash press Kelly's been getting before and after Uncle Clive went ballistic on AI. Here's a great one that sums it up the before for me....
and the after....

This song is pretty much done, even if it's not falling as fast as some others (with a -1000). It won't see a resurge.
it's just interesting to me that EVERY current song performed on Idol this year saw a boost in radio play immediately following said performance and NA didn't. it's interesting to analyze how a song can manage to do the exact opposite of what ALL indicators would point towards it doing.
great negative press there focus...

Oh, radio, radio, radioooo..... That is why I hated the Hot 100 some years ago when it was almost purely based on Airplay, with small weight of sales. You could see the sort-of 'manipulation' that radio did to some artists by not playing them, despite they were popular or their singles sold hugely. Bad to see this against Kelly. I mean. I seriously thought NA could be in the top20 or stay around for awhile, NEVER PLUMMET in a month time!! This is about to tie Candyman as the airplay flop of the first halfyear :'(

I would say that RCA is influencing the trajectory of NA. All their promoters have to do is tell the programmers they don't care what they do with the song. It doesn't have to be about lack of payola, it could just be lack of enthusiasm or support that sends the message that RCA doesn't back the song. Clive wants to prove he has more power than Kelly. But she can still have huge sales, and maybe they will be better about the second single.

So now radio is against Kelly? Doubt it! Radio is against this awful song. That's all. If the next song is good then it will sell.

I can see this going the route of Avril's singles from her second album. Don't Tell Me was kind of a starter single, which didn't do amazingly. After the album released, My Happy Ending was released as single number two and it exploded.

I just feel people are throwing the term 'Americas Sweetheart' to Kelly way too loosely.
Like how people use "flop" and "legend" too loosely? uh huh.

I was thinking that last night about this album being for Kelly what Avril's second album was. I think Kelly's second single might hit #2 or something like that and her album will do well even if the first single hasn't.
Regarding the radio thing, if the label says that radio can do what they want with the song, I don't think radio will stop playing it. If radio wants to play the song without label support, they'll play it. The song is dropping because radio doesn't want to play it. Some of you guys put too much faith in how much of an effect a label has on radio airplay. Remember, payola is illegal and probably doesn't happen as often as you'd like to believe.

So now radio is against Kelly? Doubt it! Radio is against this awful song. That's all. If the next song is good then it will sell. Its not new news that RCA didn't support the song, infact the quite opposite. Now that factor wouldn't 100% have to do with its decline but its a pretty large factor if your label is supporting/pushing other artists like Avril, Daughtry ect and letting this one do whatever its gonna do on its own. Especially if you have the CEO of the label not even liking it. I'm not making excuses, I'm just saying look at the facts: FACT - this song is growing internationally and doing well in other countries, FACT this song is doing great on digital sales FACT the song still has a minor bullet and close to top 10 on Hot AC. FACT - the ONLY thing where this has underpreformed is on Pop radio. FACT, Pop radio has had better call outs for the song than Hot AC, consistantly. Doesn't that seem a little fishy to anyone? And if its just NA being a bad single choice don't you think the label would already push for another radio friendly single now? I said something was fishy with the numbers a couple weeks back. Either we were gonna see a great comeback soon or a surprising crash. Well now we are seeing a surprising crash so now I knew where my suspesions lead. Lets see where this song goes next week, if it has no longevity than its obvious the label wants another more radio friendly single out before her CD drops, and Kelly & her management would have to react. Like eyeMax and a few others were saying maybe they used NA as the heater track and waiting to release the 'smash' hit. When's the last time an anticipated female artist released their smash hit on the first single btw? I think Nelly and that's it for a few years back (and maybe that's why she's having problems with airplay now, she's old news already since releasing her smash a year ago). Shame they had no faith in NA.

The song is not radio-friendly at all, that's why it flopped. Plain and simple.

One thing is really scaring me, I mean, I dont understand RCA, 'Never Again' is set to be released early in June in Europe and where's the promo??? Radios havent been playing it yet and I doubt RCA is properly providing it decent support.
I mean, Kelly sold more than 1 million copies of breakaway in the UK and WHY is RCA now 'releasing' her comeback single there like this? I mean, only the video is on TV, THAT'S ALL
Isnt it like CRAZY? I mean, I cant get it

RCA wont invest on something they dont really believe in. from business stands point, it does make sense. or maybe after seeing how NA did in the US, maybe they're thinking open the album with a different song WW? aaahh ... i cant believe this era is such a mess now
finally lost its bullet on hotAC -1 now lol .. it's peaking i knew without top 40 backing it up, it wont go too far on hotAC.
i heard that the next single now is between one minute or haunted

If that Velvet Rope memo, which is buried back somewhere in the album thread, was correct, Kelly will be promoting the album in Europe for 2 weeks sometime before June 26.
