Wow, some CU fans are such drama queens. Folks , as hot as Carrie is right now she could fart on record and it would still go #1. Chill. I like this. It pales next to Randys version a bit due to the production but its still a great record.

"Last Name" barely got to #1. there is no guarantee that anything Carrie releases will get to #1. and this is not a great song. Carrie sings it nicely, but it is not a good song. way too old fashioned. and how many old fashioned songs are doing good on radio now? "In Color" and "Last Call". which are both good songs, but old fashioned.
i really don't see this going #1 if it is released.

I just really can't see this becoming a single. It's great and beautifully sung, but I was really really expecting FOTF. But it's not confirmed whatsoever at all yet. Only that Whitney lady said new song from Carrie, so I don't trust anything until it's posted on All Access, or said by Carrie herself.

Merry Christmas everyone. When should we expect an announcement what the next single is? Next week?

I'm glad this is a single. She does such an amazing job with such a good song. I just hope the first single from her next album is uptempo!

I would love this choice from the standpoint of song quality and of positioning (this won't make Carrie's pop-leaning fans who are hungry for crossover-friendly material happy, but personally, I like what this would say about Carrie's love of purer country music). The emotions of the song are well conveyed by the lyrics and they are perfectly suited for Carrie's voice. Her live interpretation has matured from the studio version (which is already good). And I agree with kw9461 that it would be nice to see Randy Travis get some attention for this, and to hear a bit of Vince Gill on the radio. Completely agreed. First of all, I think this is a #1 smash. It's a terrific song and Carrie's the hottest name for country radio. But regardless, I love the message it sends. No, songs like ITYS aren't the direction the majority of country radio is going. But some artists -- especially Carrie, the biggest name in the genre -- have the power to transcend trends and release what they want and have success with it. I think some people need to remember that there are other artists and styles to country music besides the crossover pop stars. There's a segment of fans that grew up listening to and appreciating Randy Travis, George Strait, George Jones and other pure country stars, and they listen to radio, too. Carrie hasn't chosen to go that direction often, but she clearly has an appreciation for the style, and her voice works beautifully on it — so I don't see the problem in extending an olive branch to them. I really believe this song would make a number of fans who previously dismissed Carrie as the latest blonde pop-country fad realize that she has a place of more substance within country music. As I said, I think this is a #1 either way, but sometimes I think fans get carried away with chart numbers. Some of the most influential songs of the past decade haven't come close to #1 on the charts. ITYS would work on a number of levels, and I really hope it's true.

Whatever Carrie sends to radio is guaranteed top 3, so why worry? Plus, MANY people will view this song as an example of her dedication to country music and she may get that much more support because of it. This will fare well if sent to radio. I really hope it is.

Some of the most influential songs of the past decade haven't come close to #1 on the charts. ITYS would work on a number of levels, and I really hope it's true. can i nominate this for post of the week? well said. i also think there comes a time when she has to release songs not solely on their potential to reach the top of the chart. she's already proven herself as a radio hitmaker so what more does she prove with another #1 anyway. this selection further proves her heart in the industry and shows her appreciation for the so called older style of country. i still think fans of more traditional country are hesitant to embrace her, so this may actually win them over. many of her fans clamor for her to expand her fan base and try to win over the pop fans, but here is a base she can win over! i actually think country radio will eat this up. apart from the points you bring up, i think ITYS is one of her best vocals and tracks on her album. i actually had a friend listen to the album (he has no inclination for country music whatsoever, so he had no idea its a cover), and he thought this was the standout track of the album. plus, i always felt that for the 5th single, she may want to release something that means to her. not only has she been outspoken on how she admires Randy Travis, it was also the song that kinda got her invited to the Opry, which i believe is one of her most treasured accomplishments in her career thus far. i think on various fronts (artistic, promotional etc) this is a brilliant choice. i really really hope this is true.

I'm a huge fan of old country like George Strait and Randy Travis and this is one of my favorite songs on Carnival Ride. This, along with JTTW are definitely the kind of songs that will appeal to long time country fans. :) *Before He Cheats is a classic though.

I think this is the new song guys. Let's compare the spin counts this week for the remaining songs on CR (Only songs with airplay will be shown):
'Flat On The Floor': 2 Spins, 0.001 million AIs 'I Told You So': 27 Spins, 0.061 million AIs 'More Boys I Meet': 26 Spins, 0.193 million AIs 'Twisted': 1 Spin, 0.028 million AIs
Before everyone points out that MBIM is only 1 spin behind ITYS, if you look at the plays for the past few weeks, ITYS has 0 spins where as MBIM had 28 spins. Maybe some stations thought that MBIM was the single, hence the airplay last week, and then when the plans changed ITYS got the airplay and MBIM decreased.
I'll keep searching.

The More Boys I Meet has always had a lot of spins though. it has been close to the top 100 since it was released. radio just loves it for some reason.

These spins pointed out in the past few posts mean nothing. I would not get worked up over anything until either the single has been sent to radio (which nothin' has at this time) or an OFFICIAL word has come from the label or Carrie or someone of that stature.

I've always liked TMBIM, but for some reason I seem to be in the minority as far a Carriefans go. I'm going out on a limb and say that ITYS is NOT the next single. I won't be terribly disappointed if it was, but it wouldn't by my choice.

Some of the most influential songs of the past decade haven't come close to #1 on the charts. ITYS would work on a number of levels, and I really hope it's true. That's a very thoughtful post. Whiskey Lullaby wasn't a #1 but I have a feeling Paisley's status today, both commercially and artistically, was shaped more by the decision to record and then release that song to radio than by a lot of his more typically-Brad hits. Can't prove it, though. But artistic risk-taking can work out awfully well. Speaking for myself and not trying to reflect the opinion of others who dislike Carrie's music so far, I don't hold her crossover-lovin' fans against her. I've read George Strait's CMT board often enough to know that fans are fans, covering the full range, no matter who they're fans of. If she changes musical direction, even only occasionally, I'd be happy to enjoy her songs on the radio. If I found out she had Keith Urban's respect for and curiosity about country music history, I'd be pleased and not even especially surprised. If she let herself be influenced, even occasionally, by Patty Loveless and the early Martina McBride, I'd even be considering -- yes, I mean it -- buying an album or at least downloading a few tracks. If she keeps screaming on into the night, no, I'll never have much respect for her as an artist, and one good song won't do the trick for me. But what's striking about all forms of art, even the most commercial ones, is the capacity of artists to grow and change. Most of them do it, if they're lucky enough to be around for a long time. Vince Gill has. Carrie probably will as well. Did I mention that was a great post, DCXfan?

After playing it for the third time in four days on her show this past Friday, Ms. Allen back-announced it as "the latest release from her 'Carnival Ride' CD" and there is zero chance of her to have aired it all week and sell it as the newest single from Ms. Underwood without knowledge from someone in the know at her label.
Shows such as hers and 'After Midnte With Blair Garner' have routinely received advance notice and/or world premieres and/or one week exclusives on some of the biggest singles from most of the format's biggest artists over the past fifteen-plus years, including three super-godzillas of the format named Strait, McGraw & Paisley.
For artists such as those and numerous others spending anywhere from 1-3 hours on Blair's show airng and discussing tracks from new CDs is a long-running practice at the show, as has been the case during the show's entire existence.
I expect this wonderful song to explode airplay-wise within the next 48-72 hours, and breeze to #1.

Great, bold choice. Say what you will, but this is clearly the best song on the album. Yes, even better than JAD. I do think she sings the chorus a little too loudly, but overall it's a very solid track and will be a breath of fresh air in the current pop-saturated country airwaves.

I don't think it's Carrie's best vocal performance on the album, but it's the most lyrically compelling track. It's kind of sloooow for my tastes though.

No - I am simply listening to it more so I can grow more fond of it. Part of the reason I never liked it as much as the past singles is I liked them more naturally - they clicked to me more for whatever reason. I would usually skip this song to get to Twisted or WotW. Now that it is a single I am simply exposing myself to it more so I will appreciate it more :)
