I don't think it's as radio friendly as Breakaway, but I still love it.

I'm not sure how I'm going to rank this yet. I think i like Breakaway more than this, but I could change my mind. There's definitely more variety on this than Breakaway or MD.

^Maybe not as a whole, but I think its a better album overall. I think Breakaway sounded like it was just one long song. lol It had a lot more filler than this album does. This album may not be as radio friendly, but even the non-radio friendly songs are stronger than some of the radio friendly ones on Breakaway.

I'm sure her management is pissed...the marketing, publicity, press, everything about her management in this era has been pretty flawless.
That being said...I'm midway through my first listen of the leak (guilt-ridden haha), and she is singing the ever-loving SHIT out of all these songs.

Is "If I Can't Have You" the killers/eurythmics one? Cause it sounds like it. It totally makes me want to get up and dance. I also really like the bridge of "Impossible", but the song doesn't really go anywhere for me. The three weakest tracks for me are MLWSWY, Save You, and Impossible. Other than those, I love the rest of the album.

I feel like Kelly is channeling other singers this time around. The most obvious comparisons are P!nk, Avril and Katy all of which I think could have done MLWSWY and IDNHU. I think she sounds amazing vocally but her personality seems to be drowned out, it just doesn't sound like her and there is a huge shift between the Clarkson of 04-07 to the Clarkson of now. "Cry" has these small bits of P!nk in them but for the most part I feel that Clarkson shines on it however it doesn't hold a candle to any of the heartfelt ballads on My December (Maybe, Can I Have A Kiss?) or Breakway (Because Of You, Where Is Your Heart, Addicted). It doesn't really live up to the tortured Clarkson ballad in anyway.
Don't Let Me Stop You has a sound like Behind These Hazel Eyes with the power guitar featured prominently. It's pretty strong for the most part as it plays to Clarksons' angrier rockier chick persona that she has crafted so intricately over her past two albums. She sounds like herself here and not so much like an anonymous Dr. Luke girls clone. It's empowering and it's strong and the devil may care attitude is a great look on her. The title track opens up on a rather funky rift, and is intriguing, it's not a normal occurrence to hear "sultry" Clarkson. It's saucy and swaying guitar is appealing. It's different for her.
I'm assuming Already Gone is the Tedder track? It's the most obvious one, it sounds soo much like a lot of his other material (Bleeding Love, Halo, All I Need, ect.) even though it's not all that original it's lyrics are well written and the sound is inspiring, sparkly and beautiful. It also is rather bitter-sweet and Clarksons performance is particularly emotive however I do feel this underlying impression that Avril would sing something like this. If I Can't Have You also seems to continue on this teen theme. It sounds like the first single to Cyrus or Simpson would sing and I also get this underlying Rihanna tinge in there too. It's hear where Clarkson starts to lose her identity a bit again. She's channeling other artists. It also doesn't help the case that they are vocoder-ing her voice. It's an all to familiar trade that all of the above three artists would choose stylistically.
Save You gets me right in the heart. That beautiful guitar rift is so haunting and simply beautiful that I can't help but feel for her. Her vocal layerings also make the song even more ethereal. Another beautifully written song. It's comforting in a way the piano also paints this home-y vibe and that's where Clarkson is comfortable and at her best. She's warm and her image of the girl next door (back from Idol) is reinforced rather strongly. This sounds strongly Tedder influenced too come to think of it but less then that of Already Gone. Why You Wanna Bring Me Down is the worst song she has ever recorded, it sounds horrible. I know it's supposed to be playful but it just sounds chaotic, unstructured and more or less like a hot mess. I don't like Long Shot because it sounds so immature. Like something one of the Disney girls would do for one of their movie soundtracks: Miley, Lindsey, Hilary, ect. and Kelly is soo much better then that. Impossible is nice but I feel in the long run it's forgettable by comparison to Save You and Already Gone. Ready is filler. I Want You is poppy and fresh, and I am guessing this is the 60's vibe song that was discussed at length? I think it's fun and cute and you can tell Clarkson is having fun with this. If No One Will Listen is too smaltsy for my taste, and tries a little to hard.
My Life Would Suck Without You 5/10 I Do Not Hook Up 4/10 Cry 6/10 Don't Let Me Stop You 7/10 All I Ever Wanted 6/10 Already Gone 8/10 If I Cant Have You 5/10 Save You 8/10 Why You Wanna Bring Me Down 3/10 Long Shot 4/10 Impossible 5/10 Ready 4/10 I Want You 6/10 If No One Will Listen 5/10
I feel from a production point of view, this is perhaps her most solid album as far as variety goes. It's very good. The sound is unmatched. However when it comes to the lyrics, the actual song content I feel this is lesser then both My December and Breakaway. The ballads don't compare, the up tempo's don't rate and it seems like Kelly's interpretation is off a couple times through out the album. There are several times where I feel the material is generic or when it just doesn't sound like her.

I Do Not Hook Up will be huge.
Hate how they changed the "keep your thing in your pants" line though.

If Kelly can pull off a line like "you are sh!t" I think she can pull off a line like "keep your thing in your pants." But whatever, I guess it's not that big a deal, I just don't see why it was necessary.
Edit: I guess it's "you are cr@p" but either way...

Perhaps "pull off" was the wrong way to put it...but I don't know, that line just stuck out to me on the demo (only listened to half of it a while ago) as just kinda...immature-sounding, and not in the fun, cheeky way like a lot of other Katy Perry or Lily Allen songs, or even Chivas. Just me, I guess.

B. Monroe, I appreciate that you did an honest and thorough review. Everything was well-thought out and it looks like you put time into it. Even though you didn't like it that much, it is nice to have your opinion.

All I Ever Wanted My December Breakaway Thankful You read my mind. The production and lyric change of Ready caught me a bit off guard. But the more I listen to it, the more I like it. And the lyric change makes sense, it totally fits the song. And I still can't believe how great "Cry" is.

I love Kelly, she is the tenth most played artist overall on my Ipod and even if I don't like her material this era, I do owe it to her as a fan to give her material a listen. I like the ballads a lot and I do think IDHU will be a hit for her and I am happy for her success. I just wish I could like her new material more.

Can someone please pm me a link to the leak? I downloaded it from work earlier and I wanted to download it now that I'm home but the link I had earlier isn't working anymore for some reason. At least not from here. It says file not found so I'm not sure if they took it down or what. I really want to burn it to cd. Please help me someone.

What was the other track Ryan produced aside from "Save You" and "Already Gone"?

If I Can't Have You is totally different him. He should do more songs like that. The production is hot as hell.

DLMSY, SY and AG are my three break-outs from this album. I would love for atleast two of these songs to be singles at some point.

I'm kinda disappointed with this overall. I am as well. It's not so much the commercial aspect of it as I loved Breakaway, it's just that I feel most of these songs just don't sound like Kelly. They will get what they want out of it good sales, hit singles and everyone will love her again. The album isn't horrible by any means, it just isn't great.
