I do want Adam to dabble in electropop but nothing too overtly poppy. That's not him. Whatever he does needs to be rock-tinged so maybe he should do some synthpop a la the Yeah Yeah Yeahs' new stuff. Great care needs to be taken to ensure that his music not only fits his persona but can support his voice. I do like some of RedOne's productions but I don't want Adam working with people who are going to try to turn him into something he isn't. That has been the downfall of many former AI contestants. 100% agreed. I would hate to see him go and be marketed as the male version of Lady GaGa or something, and I think it would fail miserably. He should stick to what made him popular on the show and develop a strong cult fan base rather than throw everything out the window and start from scratch by changing up his whole sound for his record.

Wow, ouch at the nasty Clay Aiken blog! He was really harsh. I didn't expect that from him. Not cool, Clay.
^Yeah Adam needs to stick to rock mostly. He was INCREDIBLE on the Kiss song and the Queen song. He can do some slow stuff too like Mad World... but I wouldn't want him to do too much electro pop as that might not go over on Top 40 Radio in the USA. He might do ok in Europe, but he has to establish himself in the US first.
He needs radio friendly, commercially viable music that fits his voice.

Well just on Larry King Paula, Ryan and both Adam and Kris said they have no idea how close the results were or weren't but Paula speculated that it had to be close.

Clay's latest blog is public (but probably won't get all the media attention the first one did): www.clayonline.com/blog/member/clayaiken/all/wow_such_influence_ha_ha05/22/09 Wow! Such influence! ha ha Who knew I had so much influence and that my words and opinion mattered so much to so many people!?!?! HA HA HA I'll be the first to admit that my opinion is just that, only my opinion, but for as much as some of the bloggers seem to dislike me and care so little about my thoughts, they sure can waste a lot of their space on what I say! If only many of them took the time to pay attention to important things like the US economy and the welfare of the world's children. But... nah... I could blog about that type of stuff anytime and most wouldn't think twice, but let me say something that they can pick and choose quotes and misinterpret me... and it's showtime! I never assumed my opinion mattered so much! I guess I may have been wrong. That said, since my previous blog got dissected like a biology lab frog, i suppose I should clarify and even retract some of what I wrote. I am sure that some were upset by my choice of words describing my opinion of a performance I heard from Adam Lambert. I hope no one actually believed that blood truly poured forth from my ears when I heard him. I obviously meant it as a colorful statement to imply that I did not enjoy what I heard. Any performer hopes that their music will appeal to all people, but no singer realistically expects it to. God knows, I am SURE there are PLENTY of people who can't stand to hear me sing either. I wouldn't dream of assuming that, and I am sure that far worse things have been said about my performances than I would even venture to type here. To me, that's fine. I don't expect unanimous, nor even majority support for my music. But, my guess is Adam doesn't either. I would not venture to make judgements on the personality or demeanor of anyone I don't know, so none of what I said in my previous blog was directed as a "slam" on Adam as a person. At the same time, I wouldn't dream of slamming him as an entertainer. He does what he does, because he enjoys it, and he obviously has many fans who enjoy it as well. If what i said in my previous blog regarding my impression of a single performance from Adam upset or offended any of his fans, I expect that the mature ones will realize that it was simply a poorly worded metaphor describing my personal tastes. The only person I would really dream of apologizing to is Adam. And the irony is, if he's smart he couldn't give a crap what I think of his Ring of Fire performance. As an entertainer, Adam knows that one person's opinion of one performance really matters a little less than zero, in the grand scheme of things. He could not have gotten on Idol (nor made it as far as he did) without an immense amount of talent. He surely doesn't need my approval to know he has a gift. At the same time, he realizes that amazing talent doesn't always equal universal appeal. (I could NEVER have the amount of skill and talent that ballet dancers have! that's talent! But, I don't particularly enjoy it!) I am sure that I will have plenty of opportunities in the coming years to hear Adam sing. I imagine he'll be around for years to come. But in the meantime, I definitely don't want to stoop to the level of so many negative freaks on the internet... so, I do apologize to Adam for my colorful (and negative) choice of words. I hope he can forgive me. I imagine he doesn't give a damn! God knows he shouldn't. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Now, for those of you who are able to comment on this.... lets take bets as to which bits and pieces of this blog will end up mass distributed. Be creative.... they don't seem to care about punctuation or whether or not they use all of the words in a sentence... so, have fun....

I'm in love with Adam's studio version of "Tracks of My Tears" right now. :) My favorite studio performance is still Mad World, and I still haven't stopped watching the video performance of Black and White. I'm off to download some of his newer performances.

Sounds like we don't have to worry about the life being sucked out of Adam on his first album. I don't understand why some people confuse his stage swagger for arrogance. He's had nothing but kind words to say about everyone throughout this season.

Yeah, I am very sensitive to an unnecessarily large ego, and I have always viewed Adam as a class act.

Adam is confident and aware of his talent, but from what he's shown on the show and in interviews is also a well mannered and kind gentleman.

I agree. Adam is NOT arrogant and was a very gracious loser when Kris won. He did not hesitate for one second to go and hug him several times, and he has never acted cocky or arrogant in interviews.
Adam gets misunderstood, because people assume incorrectly that all the media hype about him got to his head... when the truth is, it might have made him more nervous. Everyone knows that the more hype you get, the more pressure to live up to it.
Also he has never been anything but kind and classy when Simon critiqued him. He never talked back, but took it like a man.
By the way, his studio version of Mad World is amazing! I cannot stop playing it.

I think his debut album is going to have to go at least Platinum to match the hype that he got all season long.

Yeah, exactly. It's so easy to hate on Adam especially if his style of music is not your style but he's just SO nice and genuine that I can't get myself to hate him. I might not enjoy his type of music eventually but I'll always like him and I can't deny his talent.

Hmm....What annoys me about this 'runner-up curse' is alot of it isn't the person's fault it is more of the record company. IF they get their act together Adam (and Kris) should be fine.
They only got it right with 3 runner-ups and only one of them didn't go Gold. The other three (Bo/Kat/Diana) were given the wrong material. It's like you don't give a jazz singer an R&B/urban album and you don't just let someone who is 16 with a connection to tween girls go without trying to make her the next Hilary Duff (at that time) and you don't give a southern rocker a pop/rock cd. lol
Clay/Daughtry/Jordin/Carrie/Kelly/David C&A all are doing well (or did) cause the label got it right. Not JUST because they were talented and a had a huge fanbase. I mean, David A lost by 14 million votes! and Diana D. only lost by 1 million. You do the math people! lol Obviously the labels don't always do their job milking the cow (err contestants).
It all lays on the label's shouler first. And if Adam's debut doesnt do well and he's dropped- he'll have to work with what he has left like the others are.

I think lots of songs on Katharine's album were spot on. Songs like "Open Toes" and "Do What You Do". "Over It" was cool, but it was a blah first single. "Neglected" and "Each Other" were amazing. If the whole album were filled with songs like that she woul've been fine. I liked the R&B route they took with her, but they should've left off the Pop.
The thing with Adam is that he never had this clear cut thing about him. Most people just assume he's a rocker, but that's not how I see him. Or ever did and probably wouldn't buy a rock album by him. Other people might feel alienated if he put out a Pop album and they wanted Rock. But I think he's smart enough and will figure something out. Regardless, they know people will be waiting for his album so they will make sure it is perfect.

I think that he performed ballads better than everything else. I think that he did really well with Tracks of My Tears. I also like Ring of Fire (I thought that the arrangement was perplexing and that the vocal was very interesting at the same time) more than all the performances where he tried to be a rocker, which IMO doesn't suit him.

I really liked Adam and was disappointed when he didn't win. BUT, I do have to say the screaming got old real quick. If he were to put out an album with songs like Mad Money, Tracks Of My Tears, and some uptempo pop songs I would buy it. But didn't he say he wanted to be a rocker?
It'll be interesting to see how he does. I do think 19 and whatever Label he is signed with are going to give him loads of promotion, probably more than Kris will get. They promote who they want. Back when Clay came in second it was all about the winner and up until Daughtry they made sure whoever came in second tanked. I have always felt they signed the second place finisher just so no other label to get them.
He does seem like a good guy. I think he has enough experience in Hollywood not to buy into the hype, or at least I hope so.
So good luck Adam!

RCA/19 don't do well with runner-ups. Justin had "Inner Child", which sounds cheesy. Clay's first three releases sold off of his strong fanbase. Diana suffered from the "pop/rock Disney routine" that was a bad move. Bo sold well, but got the shaft.
Katharine had a great debut album. But the entire strategy her label had was a hot ass mess!! Blake's debut was treated like a mess. David A has gone gold, but I believe they've dropped the ball after ALTNOY.
So, all we can hope for is...good material, good performances, and some moderate level of sustaining his visibility in the music industry. Let's hope they don't forget him after single #1, like they did with the others.

I agree that Adam's ballads are his strongest. His vocal on the studio version of "Tracks of My Tears" is flawless and makes the other studio versions I've downloaded sound amateurish by comparison. Forget about his flair for the dramatic. Vocally, he was without a doubt in another league from the rest of the contestants this AI season. His control, tone, range, pitch, interpretations, etc. are all impeccable. In fact, the only complaint I ever have is that he does too much with his voice when he really gets into it. So he needs to continue to work on having some restraint. He should do rock-tinged music but perhaps not straight up rock but more electropop oriented like some of his demos. He could also pull off straight up dance-pop but I don't want him doing cheesy vocal house like his "Kiss and Tell" demo. Obviously his voice is begging for good material. In any case, I wouldn't be so quick to write him off because he's the runner-up. He's fully capable of being a star despite losing and raising the bar for other runner ups.
