Wow! Many things to comment on today... First: What a BASHING!!!! I think that, for being a MUSIC forum, this is a lot. I thought people here would focus more on the artistic side of the performance (good or bad) than on the raunchines, sexuality, censorship, etc. As in many other cases, I agree more with Theo than anyone else on here ;) But what I mean is that he is the epitome of a gay stereotype.. and when he goes around wearing pounds of makeup, dressed like a drag queen, performing sexual activities on stage, people see that and think "geez these gays are getting out of hand" I understand he likes to entertain people, but for people to accept him he needs to establish himself as an artist first. The only type of artists that can get away with performances like his are HUGE artists (ie britney, christina, madonna kiss). He's won 2nd place on a talent show. He is not big enough to get away with kissing same gender on national TV. I hope his career is done. He disgusts me. Not so long a complete newbie female singer was talking about Kissing a Girl and liking it... and it stayed at #1 on the Hot 100 for more almost 2 months! But yeah, that's girl on girl, so not too controversial or "wrong" for the media... We saw Britney simulating having an orgasm in a bathouse orgy in the Slave video... she and Madonna went all S&M-ish in the Me Against the Music video, and recently Britney is singing (on national radio) about having threesomes... Not too long ago, we have had songs about females sucking cocks by rappers, performed on national TV, including in the most watched TV show of national TV, but come on talking about a blowjob is okay if it's a girl performing it to a man, right? Janet performed around 8pm and practically took the dancer's penis out after grabbing it like a baseball ball, but no one talks about that. Don't know if that was also censored. Most of AI fans have already seen Adam's pictures of his pre-Idol years... and if not, the TV news were very prompt to show them to discourage votes for Adam. So there is nothing new at seeing Adam expressing his sexuality like this. He has done it before. He had to restrain when in AI, but now he is on his own career path. We may not like it, but this is who he is, and it is not a complete turn around from what we knew about him. Also, something that I don't get is why people say that Adam being HIMSELF is wrong?!!! Seriously, he IS gay, and a flamboyant one. Why would he have to change while being an artist? just to please the crowd? That would be hypocritical! Maybe he can tone down some elements, etc., but he should NOT be limited in expressing his gayness as he pleases, as long as he does not go over the limit. Kissing a man is as valid as kissing a woman, being sexual, erotic is as valid for him as it could be for Ciara, Janet, or hey even Paris Hilton. And this is not against gays. Any conservative hetero man would consider that a kiss on the cheek between two men is a sin!! They won't change even if they see Adam kissing a girl nicely and smoothly because he is already condemned before their eyes. I have many other things to say about the actual FYE video and the interviews, but would do it later.... |

I thought the video was the same ole same ole. A bunch of scantily clad people of indeterminate gender, wearing the latest in Mad Max-meets-Bob Mackie fashions, writhing, gyrating and acting all orgasmic around the star of the video, who acts as sort of a ringmaster of all the faux sexual action.
Yawn. I love his voice, but damn, for an artist that possesses charisma to spare, he has certainly made generic, boring videos.

You know the more I think about this, the more I feel like I am starting to understand why people are so upset with Adam (even if I do think its BS.) I was comparing his performance to a Britney performance, and it was certainly no worse than plenty of hers that have received rave reviews. But, Britney had released two diamond albums by the time she started performing like that. She had paid her dues and then some. I guess people are reacting this way because Adam really hasn't paid any dues. If he had done this performance 3 years from now, after 2 cookie-cutter albums of what everyone expected it may have gone over much differently. Just a thought.

I guess people are reacting this way because Adam really hasn't paid any dues. I think that's a lot of it. But for me, I think the performance would have gone over better if he didn't sound like ass and the song itself was stronger. Without the music to back it up, it came off as cheap attention whoring IMO. This whole incident is already starting to fade in the background. I think the other song has a good shot at sticking around a while. He should be fine in the long run, if he can get the focus back on his music. |

He was trying too hard on the AMA. I agree that the focus should be on the music. WWFM is a much better song than FYE and will do better on radio. He's got a bit of an attitude though and I could see that backfiring the long run.
Gaga is projected to sell 350K combined of her album(s).

True, but if I understood Billboard correctly, The Fame + The Fame Monster Deluxe Edition will count separately for 150k and The Fame Monster EP separately for 200k. Adam should be #2.

They tend to overstimate idols, because the first day sales are really huge. Just look at Kris. And last year I remember they predicted over 200k for Archuleta and he ended up selling around 180k.
I think he'll be #3 or 4.

It's not the same thing at all. If he had done this in a music video, no one would've cared, but live performances are a different story. |

The increase is usually proportionate to the album sales. So the climb to #24 is expected. The song is still not gaining any spins, though. That's why I'm curious as to what they will do with this. Adam has already performed WWFM on The Early Show and Letterman, and it doesn't look as though he'll perform FYE in any of his immediate future appearances. |

Maybe he sold a few more albums or singles, but maybe he also lost a few sales that he could have had. I think it evens out. The only thing the AMAs did was make him into a tabloid/gossip star. |

His album performance on Itunes is pretty underwelming. I don't think the AMAs helped much, if anything.
The song is also going up because yesterday they removed the single version they had on itunes, so that one is not selling now and all sales are going to the same version.
