www.examiner.com/x-12767-US-Headlines-Examiner~y2010m1d28-Selena-coauthors-new-book-15-years-after-death-photos-slideshowSELENA CO-AUTHORS NEW BOOK 15 YEARS AFTER DEATHA new book is scheduled to be released next month that details the tragic death of Tejano singer, Selena Quintanilla Perez—which is said to be co-authored by her over a decade after her murder. According to the Houston Press, Selena's former publicist, Cristina Castrellón claims Selena helped her write the new book called ‘Selena: Su Vida Después De Su Muerte,’ or ‘Selena: Her Life After Death.’ Castrellón said after visiting a psychic who told her that a woman with long-haired dark in a red dress—whom she believes is Selena—was following her around, she decided to let the slain singer tell her story of what really happened on the day she was murdered. Yolanda Saldivar is serving a life sentence for shooting Selena, 23, in a Corpus Christi motel room on March 31, 1995. Saldivar was the founder of the singer’s fan club and ran the Selena Etc. clothing company. She was also accused of embezzling thousands of dollars from the business. Selena went to the motel to confront Saldivar about the embezzlement when she was murdered. Prosecutors said Saldivar shot Selena deliberately, but Saldivar claims the gun went off accidentally. She will be eligible for parole in 2025. Castrellón worked for Selena from 1993 to 1995 and claims she wanted to give the singer a chance to explain what really happened at the Corpus Days Inn when she met with Saldivar. The book’s release coincides with the 15th anniversary of the Tejano singer’s death. --------------- WTF?

Selena Co-Authors New Book... From Beyond the Grave By Chris Gray in Sonidos y Mas, Texas Me, This Just In, WTF Island Thu., Jan. 28 2010 @ 1:30PM
Selena Quintanilla Perez, as most Texans know, was gunned down by her former fan-club president Yolanda Saldivar in a Corpus Christi motel in March 1995, just as the Tejano superstar was crossing over into English-language pop with her album Dreaming of You and its title-track single. She remains one of the most popular entertainers to ever come out of the Lone Star State.
And now, 15 years after her death, Selena is also an author. Or a co-author anyway, at least according to her former publicist.
Latino pop-culture/media blog Guanabee reported this morning that Cristina Castrellón had a little help in writing her new book Selena: Su Vida Después De Su Muerte (Selena: Her Life After Death); namely from Selena herself via a psychic who told Castrellón a long-haired dark woman in a red dress was following her around. Guess who that turned out to be?
After the psychic informed Castrellón of Selena's posthumous interest, the publicist - who worked for Selena from 1993 to 1995 - apparently decided to just go ahead and let her former employer tell her side of what really happened at that Corpus Days Inn the morning of March 31, 1995. If you'll remember, the 1997 film Selena kind of glossed over the whole incident, although former Texas Monthly scribe Joe Nick Patoski did not in his 2002 book Selena: Como la Flor. (Still, Rocks Off thinks that movie and Out of Sight are still the best acting we've ever seen Jennifer Lopez do.)
Conveniently, Castrellón's book is scheduled for publication next month, just in time for the 15th anniversary of Selena's death. We're guessing the once and future "Queen of Tejano Music" may have had a hand in that, too.

WTF? Oh my. :'( I have so many problems with something like that. As interesting as that would be if it were truly possible, but it's just a get rich quick gimmick by using Selena's image.

WTF? Oh my. :'( I have so many problems with something like that. As interesting as that would be if it were truly possible, but it's just a get rich quick gimmick by using Selena's image. I know, I wish it were true but there's just no way. The Cristina Show I think it's called? did the same thing a few years back, bringing a psychic on to speak through Selena, and they said her death was an accident, and all this bs. Anyway I found this. VH1 Taking CSI-Style Look Into The Deaths Of 2Pac, Notorious B.I.G, Selena & Other Celebs In New Series 'Famous Crime Scenes'VH1 is returning to the scene of some of pop culture and music’s most shocking deaths with Famous Crime Scene. The first episode will take an in-depth look at the murder of Tupac Shakur. The additional six episodes will investigate the untimely deaths of Biggie Smalls, John Lennon, Anna Nicole Smith, Selena, Marvin Gaye and Michael Jackson. The seven episode half-hour series is set to premiere on Friday, February 12 at 9pm. While news accounts tell only part of the story, VH1 has rounded up the witnesses and investigators who were there to give viewers the intimate details from the initial 911 call to the investigators’ final determination to help piece together what really happened. Using expert interviews and true-to-life reenactments, as well as advanced computer graphics, viewers will witness full recreations of these historic events. They’ll tour virtual crime scenes searching for clues and learn the science behind the investigators’ findings: ballistics, fingerprints, DNA evidence, toxicology, profiling and more. Executive producing Famous Crime Scenes, for VH1 are Shelly Tatro, Brad Abramson and Jeff Olde. Supervising producer is Warren Cohen and Chris Martin is series producer and director.

15 years after her murder, Selena still sellsLOS ANGELES (Billboard) - The life of Selena Quintanilla-Perez -- best-known as Selena -- was cut short March 31, 1995, when she was gunned down by the founder of her fan club, but her music has never stopped selling. Her label, EMI, is counting on the enduring popularity of the Tejano star's catalog and interest around the anniversary of her death to spur sales of three hits packages. Selena's "Amor Prohibido" has spent 13 nonconsecutive weeks at No. 1 on Billboard's Top Latin Catalog Albums chart since 1997, including the last three chart weeks. "Dreaming of You," her posthumous 1995 English-language breakthrough, was on the catalog chart as recently as last year. Its title track has sold 254,000 digital copies since 2005, the first year that sales data is available for the song, according to Nielsen SoundScan. EMI is releasing "La Leyenda" March 9 as a four-CD boxed set, a two-disc deluxe set and a single-disc hits collection. The boxed set, which will list for $93.98, will contain one disc each of cumbia/pop, Tejano/rancheras, English songs and live tracks, as well as a charm and a bound book with previously unpublished photos and messages from Selena's family, friends and fans. The music and the book will also be available digitally. "The package is pretty elaborate and handmade," says Bill Gagnon, general manager/senior vice president of catalog marketing for EMI Music North America. "We're hoping with the higher price point that we'll be able to communicate to the consumer that it's a special package." Though EMI owns almost all of Selena's recorded material, Q Productions -- the company of her father, Abraham Quintanilla Jr. -- consulted closely with the label on the project, as well as a possible traveling exhibit. The goal is to take items from Selena's museum in Corpus Christi, Texas (such as her performance outfits and Grammy Awards), on the road this year and possibly to the Grammy Museum in Los Angeles, says David Chavez, CEO of branding and event marketing agency LatinPointe. He's also working on putting together a TV special to commemorate Selena. "Her brand keeps getting stronger," Chavez says.

Is that an official video for Siempre Hace Frio? I know it charted in the late 90's, I am assuming another leftover track from Don Juan Demarco...I am grateful it was released though, she delivers a breathtaking vocal performance.

It’s been almost 15 years since pop/Tejano music star Selena Quintanilla-Perez tragically passed away, leaving behind millions of fans worldwide. Fortunately, her music and her life have never been forgotten. Now, you can also take part in honoring Selena’s memory with a cool new feature that allows you to listen to some of her many popular singles, as well as hear special messages from your favorite celebrities.
This year, Music Choice on Demand will celebrate her life with a “Selena Tribute” tab, allowing viewers to watch Selena’s catalog of videos, including “No Me Queda Mas,” “I Could Fall In Love,” Amor Prohibido,” “La Carcacha,” “Dreaming Of You,”” and more. The Selena-inspired playlist will also feature videos from Jennifer Lopez, Prima J, and David Archuelta, along with three episodes of “Choice Cuts” with Daddy Yankee and Selena Gomez talking about their favorite Selena moments.
During March, you can celebrate the icon’s life and enjoy some of her many hit singles right from the comfort of your home, courtesy of Music Choice on Demand.
OMG I need to subscribe to this.

Today is the 15th anniversary of Selena's record selling performance at The Houston Astrodome, she still holds the attendance record, and broke the attendance record for the venue for the third year in a row piling 68,392 into the Astrodome, (she performed an annual concert at the venue starting in 1993.) This concert also spawned her Selena: The Last Concert DVD (this concert was held a month before her death) , and featured her live performance of The Disco Medley (Last Dance, The Hustle, On The Radio, brief bits of other disco classics, (which garnered enough airplay to chart #25 on the Hot Latin Tracks chart, which was an unprecedented peak for a live song. The CD went platinum. This is not her "last concert" though, she gave several other lower key performances before her death, Chicago, and a few others (she was scheduled to play in L.A. April 1st), even several television performances. She didn't have a full fledged tour out at the time, since she was busy recording her English album.

Plus La Leyenda was released today, and the presale figures are much higher than expected, especially for the box set which is a surprise considering it's $100, and the same music we already have I thought it would surely flop.
PLUS, Disney is producing a 6 part series on Selena's life, in association with Selena's father!!!!!!

Why, thank you Breast. I wonder if that will work. Being honest with someone does, make you want to return the honesty. I will keep my head up, and that is great to know you own a copy of Dreaming Of You, I am ordering a new version soon, (not cause mine is scratched but the CD booklet is a tiny bit damage) I'll send it to you if you'd like. What were your favorite songs on Dreaming Of You (beside the obvious ICFIL and DOY)? Missing My Baby (with the classic 80s group Full Force)! Of course, there is Toro Relajo and Bidi Bidi Bom Bom but nothing, I mean, NOTHING, beats Techno Cumbia. OMG. Mueve y muevele y ALTO! Or some sh it like that. I swear, I learned that whole song when that CD came out and I don't even speak Spanish. Selena songs taught me Spanish...and Shakira did as well but I think I learned more Lebanese from Shakira. Let's carry this over to the Selena thread then. How did you feel about Tu Solo Tu? And Siempre Hace Frio, although it's not on that album.

The special provides lots of insight and things I never before knew about March 31... Here is a good Lady GaGa/Selena mesh up NEVER BEFORE SEEN (on the internet at least) videos have been uploaded here, of Selena's interview and visit to a middle school in the end of '94 to promote her new educational video, and to encourage kids to stay in school, and reach for the stars, you can see the videos here. Thanks to buster from Selena Chat for all the rarities.

WOW!!! look at this archived story (thanks to buster on selchat) on Selena's performance in NYC in Sept. '94. This was the review immediately after the concert. www.nytimes.com/1994/09/19/arts/pop-review-mexican-independence-in-new-york.html?pagewanted=1Source New York Times Selena came out next with her band, Los Dinos. Selena (Selena Quintanilla) was introduced as the queen of Tejano music, Spanish music from Texas, and she's just that, the biggest star of the fastest growing Spanish-language music in the United States. Her concerts in Texas regularly draw an audience from all over the north of Mexico and Texas; she's working on her first English language album. Ms. Quintanilla and her band mix the sound of Tex-Mex accordion music with everything from the Pretenders to reggae to techno-dance music. It's a literate combination, and the band -- which has become one of the better dance groups working anywhere, having spent years playing bars -- knows exactly how to rock a house. And it is easy to see why Ms. Quintanilla has such a large and adoring audience; she obviously loves her job, dancing with the freedom of somebody who has spent a good portion of her life onstage, and singing with a lovely and fluid voice. She and the band roared through material from her newest album, "Amor Prohibido" (EMI Latin), music that sounded completely up to date, but in no way alienated its country, working-class constituency. She had people packed to the front of the stage, and the occasional unconscious audience member was lofted over the front barrier, to be resuscitated backstage.
