You don't have to listen to the album to know it's dire MOR crap with impressive vocals (technical-wise) being the only redeeming quality. That said, ya'll that are still mad at Empress of Music SuBo for snatchin' the wigs of all your faves better get used to it. SuSuBoBo will probably put out a Xmas album this year and sh*t on everyone all over again. So have you at least tried to listen to a single song? Yes. All of them. And again, I didn't even have to. Just like you don't have to go see a Michael Bay move to know what it's like.

When an act pretty much sticks to a style of music throughout their career, lots of times you don't need to listen to the album to get an idea of how it sounds or its contents- often the case with acts like Celine Dion, Mimi Carey, Nickelback, etc. (there's a reason these acts aren't critical darlings, after all). You can gauge what SuBo's album is like by sampling the music. Yeah, it's MOR, middle of the road, all of that- but there is an audience for that.
If SuBo returns to #1, that's great- it further supports that the album just wasn't going to drop off the face of the charts after the holidays.

I think he likes SuBo for the same reason I do. I'm not fond of the music that much, but her story is miraculous and I'd happily take her over the horrors of Taylor Swift & Tra$ha anyday.

HDD didn't give projections for SuBo or Gaga, odd... we'll probably get some tomorrow though for their 'weakend' previews. How much has the Oprah appearance benefited SuBo on iTunes and Amazon and the like? Surely she has gone back to 100k+.

^^ Not sure. If she releases her next album in a tough week of November, she might miss the top spot. Everyone tho that Rihanna would debut at # 1 after her smash album "GGGB" and look what happened... But Swift is generally a much bigger album seller than Rihanna ever was, anyway. Of course. Swift's first album outsold Rihanna's biggest one without huge singles. Sure they did good, but Rihanna had like 7 top 20's and 3 #1's and only sold like half of Swift's first album.

HOPE FOR HAITI NOW COLLECTION COULD GO #1 Music Performances from Telethon Available on iTunes, Others, Pre-Orders Now
January 21, 2010
Tomorrow night’s Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Telethon for Earthquake Relief will be recorded and made available as a whole and in individual performances on iTunes for purchase and download after the show.
Can the compilation become the first digital-only album to debut at #1 on the sales chart next Tuesday?
That's what it's supporters are hoping with this unprecedented turnaround.
The show, taking place in London, New York and Los Angeles, features Wyclef Jean, Bruce Springsteen, Madonna, Jennifer Hudson, Mary J. Blige, Shakira, and Sting (N.Y.); Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera, Dave Matthews, John Legend, Justin Timberlake, Stevie Wonder, Taylor Swift and a group performance by Keith Urban, Kid Rock, and Sheryl Crow (L.A.); and Coldplay, Beyonce and a group performance by Bono, The Edge, Jay-Z and Rihanna (London).
Beginning tomorrow, iTunes customers will be able to exclusively pre-order both the full performance album ($7.99) and the full two-hour video telecast ($1.99). Pre-orders will be delivered in the days following the telethon. Individual audio performances will also be available for purchase and download for 99 cents each in the days following the telethon. Apple, the record labels and the artists will donate their share of the proceeds to Haiti relief funds managed by Hope for Haiti Now charities.
Hope for Haiti Now performances will also be available for purchase on AmazonMP3 and Rhapsody, with distribution provided by INgrooves. Proceeds from those purchases will also benefit Haiti relief funds administered by Oxfam America, Partners in Health, the Red Cross, UNICEF, United Nations World Food Programme, Yele Haiti Foundation, and the newly formed Clinton Bush Haiti Foundation.
Wyclef will be reporting from New York City, George Clooney from L.A. and CNN's Anderson Cooper on location in Haiti. Among those planning to appear are President Bill Clinton, Ben Stiller, Brad Pitt, Chris Rock, Clint Eastwood, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Jon Stewart, Julia Roberts, Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Meryl Streep, Morgan Freeman, Nicole Kidman, Robert Pattinson, Samuel L. Jackson, Tom Hanks, Will Smith with Muhammad Ali, and more than one hundred of the biggest names in film, television, and music.

I Do Not, Taylor Swift is far from a horror- there are acts worse than she (she puts to shame the teen-pop acts of the late 90s/early 2000s, for instance, and look how they sold- not talking about Timberlake solo).
I also like the SuBo story, and how it's resulted in such mass interest.

If Susan Boyle has proven anything with the slaying of #1 debuts from Alicia Keys and Mary J. Blige you can't be so sure that it would hit #1.

Swift is decent. At least it's not someone truly shitty like Selena Gomez and that Disney crowd.

In no way is this Gaga's last shot at #1 on the album charts. If she gives a knockout performance at the Grammys and/or wins some major awards, she'll get a big Grammy bump and it could propel her to #1. If I recall, wasn't Amy Winehouse able to vault to #2 after her big Grammy night? And she was nowhere near the top 10 before that night.

YOUR WEAKEND CHART PREVIEW: Susan Boyle could reclaim the #1 spot on next week's chart, thanks to her appearance on Oprah earlier this week. In a novelty—or a sign of the times—there will likely be two indie bands in the Top five, with Spoon joining Vampire Weekend near the top of the leader board. The wild card for next week's chart will be Hope for Haiti Now, the star-studded digital-only album from this weekend's benefit to support earthquake relief in Haiti. Pre-orders will begin on Friday, with the benefit airing Friday night. Organizers hope to begin delivering the album over the weekend. How fast the album can be delivered and how quickly the pre-orders are redeemed will determine chart position next week. Should this collection hit #1, it will be the first digital-only release to ever reach that pinnacle. Susan Boyle (Columbia) 80-85k Lady Gaga, The Fame (Interscope) 60-65k Vampire Weekend (XL/Beggars) 50-55k * Spoon (Merge) 45-50k Alicia Keys (J/RMG) 40-45k Ke$ha (Kemosabe/RCA/RMG) 40-45k * 2010 Grammy Nominees (Capitol/EMI) 35-40k Black Eyed Peas (Interscope) 30-35k Alvin & The Chipmunks: The Squeakquel (Rhino) 30-35k * Motion City Soundtrack (Columbia) 28-32k Taylor Swift (Big Machine) 28-32k Lady Gaga, The Fame Monster (Interscope) 28-32k Justin Bieber (Island/IDJ) 27-30k Mary J. Blige (Geffen) 27-30k Lady Antebellum (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 24-27k * Denotes debut hitsdailydouble.com/news/rumormill.cgi

Hmm, they seem to have Taylor at no. 11. I prefer this not to happen.
ETA: Or no. 12, with the Haiti album. Although she appears on multiple albums tracking above her then.

Aw I was hoping SuBo would pass 100k again but 80-85k is of course great too considering the circumstances.

The hype would die down, but it's not. This is sad. LOL Are you referring to Susan? I think she certainly still has a certain amount of hype surrounding her. At the moment the amount of television exposure (between appearing on Oprah and her special re-airing frequently) is directly responsible for her steady sales. As long as she remains visible the album will continue to sell. Promotion is key for this era at this point.

I wonder if she can be nominated for the AMAs, since it's based on chart success and all...
