Wonderful choice. Couldn't be happier. I hope "Me and Your Cigarettes" gets released next.

Excellent song choice. Excellent artist. Excellent Album. Couldn't be happier for the lady's career right now.

I couldn't be happier with this choice either. My two favourite songs from the album (this and "The House That Built Me") are now both singles, so I'm good with whatever happens next.
I think this should be an easy top 10, with a real shot at #1.

I love the entire album, but I really think this is one of the weaker choices that they could've picked for a single. "Me And Your Cigarettes" screams 'summer smash' in my opinion, so I really wish they'd gone with that. Having said that, this will probably be her third #1. Hopefully she'll release "Love Song", "Makin' Plans", or "Airstream Song" for fall.

This is a great choice for a single, I think. It's catchy, fun, and clever lyrically. I prefer Makin' Plans and Me And Your Cigarettes, but I can see why this was chosen. This should be an easy top five.

This is one of my least favorite original songs on the album (though even my "least favorites" aren't that bad).
One reason I'm not sure I care for this as a single is I feel she reverts back to that tough-girl persona she's so known for. I've always preferred her softer lyrics just because sometimes her tough-girl songs sound like posturing to me (even when I like the songs), and the success of THTBM shows that people aren't unreceptive to her non-tough girl songs.

Maybe I'm the only one, but I really don't care for this at all. I guess I don't get what's so awe-inspring about the lyrics. I think my favorite singles from the album so far would have to be "Dead Flower" just edging out "The House That Built Me". I was sick of "White Liar" almost from the beginning, and this one is now maybe my least favorite. It's good that Miranda has broken through, though; she's bound to eventually release a song that I totally dig. But I'll say it again, I'm happy for her and her fans. It's just that so far, for me, even the songs from her that I like the best have been middle of the pack at best compared to the competition of singles/other artists at that given point in time on the charts...

She couldn't have made a better choice to follow-up "The House That Built Me".
I'm delighted she's already released the three best songs (in my opinion, anyway) to radio from "Revolution" ("Dead Flowers", "The House That Built Me" and this).............which are also the right choices in that each song reveals another facet of Lambert's overall musical personality that previously didn't quite come to the fore, with "Dead Flowers" tapping into a much more introspective vein, "The House That Built Me" proving what she is capable of when she restrains her voice to a gentle balladeering grace, and this single showcasing her snappy sense of humor.
I'm hoping, assuming there's a fifth single this era, that it's "Virginia Bluebell". It would be a finest way to end this incredible era for her by showcasing her more happier, optimistic side without dipping into that schmaltzy, Hallmark-card rut too many positive-minded Country anthems do these days.

It's just that so far, for me, even the songs from her that I like the best have been middle of the pack at best compared to the competition of singles/other artists at that given point in time on the charts... The lyrics are nothing groundbreaking, but that's hardly the point. What's so stellar about this track is that Lambert showcases her signature sassiness in a more tongue-in-cheek, joshing manner this time around, and it in effect really brings the lyrics to life. She especially shines in the third verse with the couplet about knowing your enemies even if they weigh about a hundred pounds and stand five foot, three inches. Just as Lambert chose to cover a song that transcends the generally tired theme of "You can't go home again" thanks largely to the songwriters' descriptive lyrics and to her minimalist-styled, introspective performance (can you imagine how undesirably different it would sound if Gary LeVox or Jimmy Wayne sang it in their usual, overly melodramatic styles?) on "The House That Built Me"............Lambert transcends the cliched feel of the oft-traversed binary of city life/high culture versus country life/blue collar culture with her infectious sarcasm, wit and breath of intelligence in her performance. And the lyrics are more interesting and engaging than the vast majority of songs that tinker with that binary as it is. Usually these days all you get is a lame defensive sneer or snicker towards those who live in the city in "loud and proud" or "Hell yeah I'm country! You might even say I'm countrier than Thou!" songs that contaminate the airwaves these days.........usually along the lines of "Yeah, look at 'em, with their martinis and fancy shoes and Versace!" and "I don't give a damn if you don't like where I come from!" With this song, it turns that stale theme on its axis and presents more wit and personality. I'm predicting another chart-topper with this release, and more than deservedly so. In fact, I believe almost this entire album is made up of songs that deserve to be chart-toppers, with the exception of "Love Song" and "Maintain the Pain" (I like the latter, really, but it feels more like a sketch than a song) Namaste, Lisping Hibiscus

Predictable, but solid choice. It's not among my absolute favorites from the disk, but a good song nonetheless--and one that should fare very well on the charts. I see another #1 coming. I'd expect a 5th single since Dead Flowers tanked, hopefully it'll be Heart Like Mine (or Me And Your Cigarettes or Airstream Song).

Agreed--this is a mortal-lock top five single. New singles from Strait, McGraw, Chesney & perhaps another format heavyweight will provide plenty of competition, but she's on a tear right now.

Chesney's not even releasing another single in the meantime, from what I've heard, and McGraw has been falling short of his previous levels of fame with most of his recent releases (mostly due to Curb more than anything) so I doubt either of those two will be a factor. I'm actually betting this will ascend the chart faster than Strait's next single as well, as Strait is holding his own surely as always but his last two singles tended to take their time more in climbing the chart. I'm hoping, assuming there's a fifth single this era, that it's "Virginia Bluebell". Yeah, I'm definitely with you on that. "Virginia Bluebell" is my favorite song left on the album, but I know that Miranda couldn't release it right after "The House That Built Me", since they're both a bit similar in style. Honestly, I'm not a big fan of "Only Prettier" myself. However, I think it'll be a big hit, and continue to ride on her momentum. Miranda is so red hot right now, I would be really surprised if the song missed #1.

Radio-friendly, up-tempo, clever and funny. This one will soar to #1... by far the most logical choice. Only one I see that's close would be "Heart Like Mine", but it doesn't have the edge that "Only Prettier" has.

I like the lyrics, and she's riding the wave for all it's worth, so why not another #1 for Miranda? She will get a lot of competition from the recurrent spins for House, so the new one could move slowly once it gets to the 8 to 10 million range. But now that she's a big star, it will eventually pick up steam.
Why do people keep saying that the last George Strait song climbed slowly? I've seen that posted a few times now -- it didn't. It had 4 weeks as a charting album track, which made its number of weeks look high -- but those weeks didn't affect the song's run after its official release. I don't know why it peaked at #3 but we aren't seeing a new, slow-moving George. Not yet, anyway.

So glad this is her next single. Easy Top 10, but hopefully, this'll become her 3rd MB/2nd BB #1.

As she told Bob Kingsley on 'CT40' this weekend, she's extremely proud of the fact that her chart success and critical acclaim have made her very proud.
Absolutely--I hpe she cleans up big time at the CMA Awards in November.

Not the most exciting single choice, but it's quite enjoyable. I don't see this having any problem racking up another #1 for Miranda.
I'd love for Virginia Bluebell or Airstream Song to be next.

I love this song, its so catchy and fun! and classic Miranda, which is what made me love her from the start! I really hope that other tough girl songs like Maintain the Pain and Sin For A Sin have a chance to be released as well...I think Miranda could release about 8 more singles from this cd and still be successful.

Off topic of Only Prettier, but it hit me today that the production on White Liar is very similar Jack White's production on Loretta's Portland, Oregon. Especially with the long intro and outros.
Glad to hear Miranda representing Miss Loretta.

Namaste, Lisping Hibiscus More unhurried pace? What are you talking about? It took Gotta Get 16 weeks to reach its peak position, not counting the 4 album-track weeks from the previous year. Other "recent Strait singles" and their peak weeks: Twang peaked in week 16 Living For The Night peaked in week 15 River Of Love, week 22 Troubadour, week 16 I Saw God Today, week 11 How 'Bout Them Cowboys, week 19 Wrapped, week 16 It Just Comes Natural, week 20 Give It Away, week 13 I can give you another 10 songs but there's nothing different there -- the average is 16 weeks throughout. The lead singles go up a bit faster than the follow-ups. I didn't include the Chesney duet, which went up faster but Chesney was a big factor there. Doesn't really change the numbers. Are there any indications whatever that Strait's run with Gotta Get was atypically slow? I just don't understand your assertion.

Safe choice and a good song, but I am sad it's not 'Me & Your Cigarettes".
