There's parts of this song where Miranda sounds a bit like Katy Perry gone country

Yesterday's Country Aircheck had an ad for "Only Prettier" at the top, so it's still getting pushed. Like I said before, I think this can do top 15, but I think top 10 would be too much of a stretch. Miranda is now almost 1 million behind Trace, and Justin Moore might pass her up again (or at least stay close) as it appears he's woken from his coma. Miranda can probably stay ahead of Luke Bryan and Chris Young for a couple weeks, but in the long run I don't see the congestion ahead of her clearing enough before Toby, Lady A, Kenny, and several others catch up from behind. Thus, I don't think Miranda will be able to climb enough spots to enter the top 10 before radio tires of "Only Prettier", since the song is already 17 weeks old. Miranda has had long chart runs in the past, but I can't see this one lasting thru the holidays (if it even makes it that long) since "The House That Built Me" climbed so fast and is still racking up a ton of recurrent airplay (THTBM had an audience of 12.5 million yet last week, while OP had 16 million). I think that could still be a reason why "Only Prettier" hasn't climbed as fast. Maybe radio sees "Only Prettier" as a pretty good song that they're willing to spin, but it's not nearly as good as THTBM. The shoes were too big to fill, perhaps.

Yeah, I was noticing that in the BCU yesterday... the small audience difference between House that Built Me and Only Prettier. I think that's a big key. I think had radio dropped THTBM quicker, she'd be able to make Top 10 with this. I think the recurrent airplay has a lot to do with this probably stalling out in the Top 20. I don't think it's a miss though. The album is still selling strong and this is performing somewhat-admirably for a Miranda single.

My local station in Des Moines (KHKI on the MB panel) has had this song in high rotation for a few weeks now, getting 9-10 spins a day...the only other songs on that tier have been Sugarland, Taylor, The Band Perry, Aldean, Luke Bryan, and Eric Church. My station usually has a couple songs that they keep in high rotation that they're testing, but otherwise most of the high rotation songs are towards the top 10, or are very popular songs. But we just saw a big change this week...Miranda's slowed down dramatically on the BB chart, and my station dropped it from 9 spins a week--high rotation--to zero rotation. It still got 9 spins on Monday, but since then it hasn't had any. Justin Moore dropped to zero rotation from medium, and George Strait, Rodney Atkins, and the JaneDear Girls all disappeard from rotation, while ZBB, Jerrod, and James Otto have moved up to high rotation instead...
A lot of those songs that stopped getting spins had bad weeks, but most of the time my station doesn't completely stop spinning a song until it's recurrent or clearly done. Miranda will probably hang around for a little bit yet, but she's not exactly having a great week again this week...

Looks like Miranda is still treading water on the charts, but I'm not sure how much longer she can hang in there for...

I'm assuming Lambert is intending to release a fifth single from this record, and it'll probably be "That's The Way The World Goes Round", as she performed that at the Country Music Awards last week.
We shall see how long this can hang in there, but I'm betting they're already looking ahead to releasing "That's The Way The World Goes Round" by the beginning of next year.

^ Not that I don't like that song, because I do (its really funny, for one thing), but I'd rather them release something else; hopefully she just performed it for fun. And I still think this single has life in it... I'd love to see it at least hit the Top 10.

I personally hope she performed that just to highlight an album track at the awards show, and that "Virginia Bluebell" is the next single. I can't think of a remaining song on the album that encapsulates her artistic "revolution" more than this uncharacteristically cheerful, gentler, breezy number. Releasing this would fully live up to the name of this era for her, while releasing another rocker (most of the remaining rockers feel too short for radio anyway) or a song heavily reliant on familiar country imagery like "Time To Get A Gun" or "Me And Your Cigarettes" would feel just a little too familiar, as well-produced and smarter as they are. I admit "Heart Like Mine" is the more immediate, radio-ready cut, and I do like that song, but lyrically it feels a little safe in that it tries to remind listeners, even after "The House That Built Me" that she is a rebel who likes to smoke cigarettes, is tempted by tattoos and loosens up after her second drink. "Virginia Bluebell" highlights more growth among the two cuts, and though not as hook-heavy is nonetheless radio-friendly enough. Namaste, Lisping Hibiscus

"Virginia Bluebell" is highly overrated.
"Airstream Song" anyone?
How bout "Love Song"?
ANYTHING but "Virginia Bluebell". While it is a good song, it's nothing amazing or impressive. It needs to stay an album track.

"Love Song" is the track I'd least like to see be released from the album as, while it's alright on its own merits, is the closest Lambert comes to a paint-by-numbers track on "Revolution" in my opinion. "Airstream Song" is likely too short in its duration to make an effective, appealing release. Namaste, Lisping Hibiscus

Still even though it's short "Airstream Song" would make a fine single. I'd actually hope for "Makin' Plans" now to be honest, probably the best choice if going for a softer song. "Me And Your Cigarettes", "Time To Get A Gun" and "Love Song" are other choices but doubt they'll get picked. I think "Virginia Bluebell" should remain an album track as well. Let's just make sure they don't release "Maintain The Pain"

A possible example of winning a vocalist award, translating to instant new airplay? Miranda was up during the first three days of last week, Monday to Wednesday, by 0.205 mill. Then, after the trophy win on Wed night, she added 0.75 mill during the final four days of the week, Thur to Sunday, to have a 0.96 mill weekly gain (and her lesser half Blake parlayed his win into a 2.473 mill weekly MB gain, 2nd highest on the chart (though Taylor's December probably did better on Billboard)).
I'm still not expecting this one to make it that far into the top 10, maybe #7 or #8 (since it's already 20 weeks old now), but she can still get a respectable peak with it.

Both Blake and Miranda contribute examples showing that you don't have to sing your current hit on the award show, you just have to win the award. I like the "lesser half" comment you slipped in there so casually. Not always a nice person, Jonsolo.

I think the CMAs helped this song out, as it seems to have rebounded by quite a bit. Its looks like it could still continue on for awhile yet. =)

There's a superb cover story on her in this week's issue of Billboard; she's always been a huge fan of John Prine (great taste young lady), and decided not to perform 'Only Prettier' on the telecast so as to do something different.
The article went on to say that there will be at least one more single from 'Revolution' and possibly two, which would mean that her next CD won't come out until 2012.
She's #10 at Country Aircheck/Mediabase, so congratulations are definitely in order.

Why wouldn't a new album be out next year, there's time for one more single at the very least, they could do another but I doubt they will. By then sales will probably slow down and Sony will want something else out there. or they release two more (Airstream Song and Makin' Plans, please) and do what Zac Brown Band did and release really close to the albums release date.

If she releases one more single, she could potentially have the lead-off to album #4 out sometime during the summer or early fall and release it next year. If they put out 2 more singles, then it may run into 2012 though.

That was the gist of the article; one more single from 'Revolution' would take up at least half of the year, leading to a new single in late summer and a new CD in the fall, possibly in November.
Yet another episode of 'the law of dminishing returns; how many singles do you release from a single CD before the time comes to move along to new music and a new CD?

After spending a long time in the top 20 range, it looks like "Only Prettier" could make it to the top 10 next week. She should move to #11 this week, if Rodney Atkins, Brad Paisley and The Band Perry all go recurrent. The next week, she'd need the ZBB to lose enough spins, George Strait to fall, or she'd have to pull ahead of Chris Young or Keith Urban to get into the top 10. She has enough of a lead over Luke Bryan that she should get the next available top 10 slot before he catches up.

I'm now starting to wonder if this one is gonna make the top 10. It's actually in danger of going recurrent, as it lost over 200k overnight last night, and has dropped 420k over the last 3 days. I wouldn't think it would take too much more of a drop for this one to go recurrent. Luke Bryan is down a bit as well, and Blake Shelton, while gaining, wouldn't catch Miranda. With her at #12 and the ZBB and TBP falling fast, I can't believe that this one isn't hanging in there just for this one more week to make it into the top 10. If Miranda goes recurrent, I think either the ZBB or TBP will get one more week at #10, since Luke Bryan isn't likely to catch them either. Actually, Luke is down 270k as well, so he's not holding his own and could be in the same boat as Miranda. I wonder if radio has just grown tired of this one, or if it's holiday airplay hurting a few songs, or if "Heart Like Mine" is stealing this one's airplay. It's probably a combination of those 3 factors..

What I mean is, I didn't think they'd LET it drop so fast. They should've at least pushed this to Top 10 a couple more weeks before dropping the next single.

It scraped the top ten on mediabase. Label probably felt that was sufficient.
