Meteorologically speaking, it is barely spring (summer solstice is usually around June 20/21), but I think people generally equate "summer" with the period between Memorial Day and Labor Day, so the last weekend in May through the first weekend in September. So by that particular standard, a mid-June peak with a total stay at the top into July would put this on the "summer smash" list. This. And usually the song that is deemed the "Song of the Summer" peaks in June or July.

Summer starts for me when I'm out of school. Which is May 2nd. And guess what? I'm 22 right now.

All Too Well would like to have a word with you. Who is "everyone else?" If you don't like the single, you don't have to support it, but the fact that We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together and I Knew You Were Trouble are her two biggest singles of her career implies that you and "everyone else" is simply part of the minority. Let's not throw tantrums because a song you hate is being released to radio. From a business point of view, releasing one of the "deep" song you love would be a terrible idea, and this isn't just a move Borchetta is doing, it's something every other mainstream artist out there has done and will continue to do. Sorry that you think 22 is so weak. I've been a fan of Taylor from the minute I heard Tim McGraw, I have all of her albums and have been to three of her tours, but I personally love this as much as I love her "deep" tracks. There comes a time in an artist's career when they have to compromise their deep*~ art for success because a) they want to, b) why shouldn't they? People love it, c) Taylor isn't a 50 year old woman. She's 23. She's more than allowed to have fun, be as edgy as she wants, and release as many FUN tracks as she pleases, regardless of who gets pissed or butthurt about it. Most people who are complaining about this now will be humming it two months from now when they hear it on the radio every two minutes and is flying up the charts. Book that #1. i would say you belong with me and love story are her two biggest hits PS not focused at you but in general this thread makes my head hurt -_-

Summer for me is always going by the school year. Like, summer semester starts in early May for me and I think most other school systems do that as well. When I got out for summer throughout high school I don't remember anyone saying "YAY spring break" I think if it is peaking in June/July people will be calling it a summer smash instead of spring smash. Not that it really matters either way lol. **procrastinating**

I jam to this everytime it comes on the CD in my car! Can't wait to hear it on Pop radio. I'm glad she's having a bigger Pop era than Country. Just cause I like Pop radio way better than Country radio these days and listen to it far more often. Once Country radio stopped playing Alan Jackson I gave up on them. If I want to hear pop I'll listen to a Pop station, not a Country station.

So it was *basically* summer by then. College definitely gets out earlier.

I like this song, but something about the chorus just feels...off. Idk why I think that. I'm still hoping it smashes, though, because it's a great song.

I don't understand all the handwringing over this song. Sure its light and fun, but many critics praised it as well, and it should do decently on pop. Even if it doesn't, obviously Taylor must like it and it must represent part of her musical makeup, or she wouldn't have created it. I think she's proven to most rattional critics that she can be serious and write deeper songs than this, but it cant all be heavy. I know she's proven herself to me and most of her fans. On the side, am I weird for hoping at some point State of Grace is released and goes to Rock? at which point i want her to do a full morning on the Bob and Tom show. And an interview on Howard Stern, without her p.r., just herself being candid and funny.

In an interview she said she's learned its best just to perform the nominated song. Could be an oblique reference to the fiasco at the 2010 Grammys. She really does have a pretty voice and I think very expressive singing one, in person and with just a guitar and her voice she is mesmerizing.

This was sent to radio in Australia I think 5 days ago? Wasn't even in the top 300 and now #56 on iTunes down under (same with New Zealand).

Didn't I say this would happen, though? They put the adds date too far out so it's starting to take off on its own.

It's a little concerning that she doesn't really have a "summer smash" on the album other than this, to be honest, but hopefully Red will ride the wave success of the past 3 singles. I'm sure it'll help a lot. It's more of a fall song than it is summer but hey, it's the best choice left. Ps. The next country single needs to be announced like...now.
