Not a bad song...certainly much better than "Aw Naw", but still, it just seems too average to me. Maybe it will grow on me. Anyway, it's going for adds on January 27. Source

I really like this song. It's a strong ballad that showcases his top notch vocals. I read that they shipped it to radio today, Dec. 16th. I hope they start playing it before 1/27.

The most average song off the new album IMO. This one was the best-selling album track when A.M. first came out, so it's not surprising that this is the second single, but man I would've loved to see Goodbye released.
Either Lonely Eyes or Goodbye would have smashed.

"The love of a lifetime is worth at least a million tries." I can't lie. I love this one too.

Better than "Aw Naw" but that's not saying much.
Would have much preferred "Lonely Eyes" or "Goodbye".

Bad pick.... Completely agree with the average assessment. I think I liked "Aw Naw" better. At least that was moderately fun and meant something. This is more bland than "Mine Would Be You". Maybe a peak around 7-13 for this?

This song is solid, but I definitely would've gone with either "Lonely Eyes" or "Goodbye" for the second single instead. Both of those are much better, and "Lonely Eyes" in particular sounds like a great choice for radio imo.
I have come to the conclusion that A.M. is Young's worst album to date (well, I've still only heard a couple tracks from his debut, but I own his other two and they are both stronger), and looking at the tracklisting, there's not really any true standouts for me the way there have been on his records in the past. There's some songs that better than others (Lonely Eyes, Goodbye, Text Me Texas), but the album as a whole has a pretty tame and average feel to it, which is unfortunate considering I consider Chris Young to be among my Top 3 male vocalists in the genre behind Josh Turner and David Nail.

If label don't want to release ballad, i prefer "Hold You To It" or "Nothing But The Cooler Left". Second horrible single choice.

Surprised they would go with this when "Goodbye" or "Lonely Eyes" are much much stronger choices. This track should do as well as some of the other singles he's had, but disappointing they are not taking advantage of a couple of clear standout tracks that have a real potential of moving the needle.

I really don't know what the label is trying to accomplish here. It's just such a generic song. The simple arrangement of the verses is a huge plus, but then the loudness of the chorus just seems unnecessary by contrast. Maybe that part will grow on me like it did with Sunny And 75 (though the contrast is more extreme here). I guess I should be happy they didn't go up with A.M., Nothin' But The Coooler Left, or We're Gonna Find It Tonight, but this is just such a wasted opportunity. I don't love Goodbye as well as most on here, but Lonely Eyes and Hold You To It just seemed like such no-brainers that even RCA couldn't screw this up...wrong. Still, it could be worse, so I guess it's a small victory.

I feel like this is essentially "The Man I Want to Be" 2.0 - which is to say I think it could do really well in the mainstream, because that one did.

Sometimes I think whoever's picking his singles these days is doing it by throwing darts at a dartboard.

Hmm. I actually like this one. I'll go back to rooting for him now. I have come to the conclusion that A.M. is Young's worst album to date (well, I've still only heard a couple tracks from his debut, but I own his other two and they are both stronger), and looking at the tracklisting, there's not really any true standouts for me the way there have been on his records in the past. I echo this sentiment as well (although I'd substitute "worst" for "weakest"...heck, what am I saying?). I don't think A.M. is really that bad, but I'm not as inclined to purchase this as I eventually did for his last two since there are quite a few earsores like the lead single and party songs that blend right in with the bro-country phenomenon for this current project. It is sad given what he's capable of pulling off. I'm fine with him doing a few party songs, but I think A.M. is pretty much half-full of that stuff. I still wish him the best for this era.

As long as we are discussing albums, Random thought: for some reason I always tie Dierks' Home, Jake Owen's Barefoot Blue Jean Night and Chris' Neon together. All similarly high quality albums with 4 singles (though Chris had a minor blip with his title track and Dierks' sales weren't as high as the others). Regardless, these were three of my favorite B-lister albums from that time period, yet now we are seeing this enormous dropoff in quality for at least Chris and Jake (Dierks is TBD but I have extremely high hopes for him to top that era). Perhaps it isn't fair to expect them to keep up such high quality work, but the difference between these albums are night and day. That's a major part of the disappointing trend in country. Yeah, we expect certain people to put out bad stuff, but now a lot of those who were putting out good stuff are following those trends. Hopefully, Dierks' album is as good as I anticipate.

From All Access Cool NEW Music: January 3, 2014
Chris Young continues to pile up evidence supporting a case as Country's best male vocalist with his latest single, "Who I Am With You." Country Music Hall of Famer Kenny Rogers once said he looked for songs that every woman wants to hear and every man wants to say. This effort from Young fits that description perfectly with lyrics declaring, "When I’m Holding you/It feels like I’ve got the world in my hands/Yeah, a better man is who I am with you." This mid-tempo tune builds to a forceful and convincing chorus. Whatever is driving this improvement process is working beautifully; Young has never sounded better.

I still think the song's pretty average, but nonetheless I love to see Chris complimented. I'll take it. :)

He always had funny and thoughtful insight on the industry. But he has a habit of complimenting more things than criticizing them. I do wish that Chris would sing more songs like "Your'e Gonna Love Me", "Neon", and "Gettin You Home". A.M has some good tracks on it but I think with that stellar voice of his, he's capable of more than his recent singles...Plus he shares my first name, so I always like that ;).

^I wouldn't really call his choice to compliment every artist an infringement of his own freedom of speech. He's free to say anything he wants. This isn't even one of those cases where there would be immediate negative consequences to saying bad things about a song, as far as I know.
As for this song, I think it probably has the best chance of all the tracks on Chris Young's album of going to #1 and it should definitely be a top 5 hit, but I could see the song fizzling out just before #1 like Chris' past two singles.

Not sure I would have chosen this for a single, but I do love the song and Chris pulls off the soaring vocal arrangement perfectly. I want this to do really well for him because I think Chris deserves all the success he can get. He is hands down my favorite solo male vocalist in country music right now.

It's a great song for Chris and his vocal prowess, but the song itself is pretty run of the mill and underwhelming. It's nice to hear him returning to his roots a bit more, though. No more "Aw Naw" songs, please. (I never felt like he effectively pulled that song off - out of his comfort zone.)

It's just more of a song for live shows like 1/3 of the new album is.

He doesn't seem nearly as awkward live on uptempo tunes as he does in my opinion on "Aw Naw."

Judging by the minimal amount of pre-release airplay this has received even from the Billboard panel, on which songs usually have a much quicker start than Mediabase, and the fact that two songs that aren't even out yet have been receiving more adds than this (EYB's "Dust," which was most added on Billboard's Real Time Tracker at some point yesterday and Tim McGraw's "Lookin' for That Girl," which received four more adds from the Mediabase panel yesterday), I think there might be a long chart run ahead of this song...possibly a run like "Everything I Shouldn't Be Thinking About or "We Are Tonight." Of course, I'm sure this can still go top 10, but I think it will be a very long journey. Chris Young just doesn't have a lot of momentum and this isn't really a magnificent ballad like "The Man I Wanna Be" or "Voices" that will really impact/excite a lot of listeners.

I've come to the conclusion Chris Young just needs that one standout song to take his career to the next level and I believe "Goodbye" could be that song. I'm very surprised they went with a track I wouldn't rate in the top half in terms of song quality of those on this CD. In my mind, "Goodbye" is an immediate smash with "Text Me Texas" as another that has impact potential. "Lonely Eyes" is also a much better track than "Who I Am With You."

Maybe despite being a top 3 hit, "Aw Naw" left a sour taste in everyone's mouths; it sure did in my case. I also think that Chris Young is still a pretty slow-climber on the charts, ala perhaps a B-list star, so this should pick up some steam within the next few weeks. I'm not worried yet.
