This is perfectly nice, but it sounds like it could've been on his first album ... where it would not have been one of the strongest tracks.

I like this as a song by itself, but I didn't wait three years for this.

Interesting, it is at +320 today. I guess we'll take a look from a week from now. I also thought Ed Sheeran's first single would flop, and while you never really hear it anymore, it did hit Top 10 for a bit before the other monsters were sent to radio. This will be a fun one to watch, I don't think anyone knows how this will do.

From listening to some of the other songs he's play from the album at recent shows, there were definitely better songs than Trust You. I just hope they don't wait for the album to drop to reveal any other song

I just hope they don't wait for the album to drop to reveal any other song I've seen MB20 in concert about 7x and I love OneRepublic and Ryan is awesome but I am shocked at the mediocricy of this song, I expected way more from both Rob and Ryan. This song sounds like it was just thrown together..sloppy.

I don't hate Trust You, but it isn't my favorite either. Watch these if you haven't already

I like the songs but his vocal range is extremely minimal.

Rob's strength as a singer is his tone and not his range. I do agree his range isn't great and I don't think those two songs above showcase what's best about his voice. I think he will sing Trust You live a lot better than either of the songs Kyle posted. I LOVE Rob's voice but I think it's a love/hate thing. Unlike your Sam Smith. He is just a great singer. Someone with his voice comes along once in a blue moon. That's why he became so famous so fast plus he had a great song to break though with.
There's hundreds of clips on youtube of Rob live. There are some fantastic performances and some crappy ones. A song that Rob performs very well live is Bright Lights. A song that he doesn't pull off as well is Mockingbird.
I still love Trust You better than both the songs above. The songs above are what people are expecting. They are good songs but not great. Now, I think The Great Unknown with the right production has a chance to be a classic....it's just got simple lyrics with a killer chorus. Rob's turn with those lyrics are what set him apart as an outstanding writer. To be able to write a simple phase but really, really well is not as easy as it would seem or we all could do it.
"People are talking but you can't be sure, so many whispers at your own front door. And when you open up you lose that hope, now you start to wonder if you're all alone." Simple but very much the way Rob writes. :) I think this will be my new favorite once the album comes out.

LOL! This is just what we have been talking about. Sit this album out if you don't like "pop" Rob. I think this is his last hurrah in that area. He says as much below. I'm really looking forward to this album but I'm sure I'll love an alt country album from him sometime on down the road, too. :) www.billboard.com/articles/columns/rock/6590128/rob-thomas-tour-matchbox-twenty-interview?mobile_redirectioGetting to work with people like Ryan and Wallpaper, I think it helped me keep things fresh and not feel like I'm going back to the same well and just writing the same songs over and over and over -- which, after 20 years, that's your biggest fear." Thomas described the album as diverse -- and added that it may also be "the last pop record I ever make."
"I come from so many different places," he explained. "I do know that I've got a Ryan Adams/David Gray record in me. I've done '90s 'I'm angry and I don't know why' alternative. I've done 'I'm going to make you shake your ass' pop. I think if I could hit a real solid 'cry in your beer,' then I'm done."

For those of us playing along...Rob is doing a quick Q & A on twitter. Some highlights...
Favorite song on new album? The Great Unknown :)
How many songs on the album? 12 or 14, haven't decided
Album release date? Aug 28 or whatever that Friday is
Will there be a single after Trust You? 3 or 4 singles
Who talks at the end of Trust You? a sample Ryan found

I got a question? Will there be anymore unneeded autotune in his songs?

Things are looking good so far as this is up another 60 spins for today's update.

Unfortunately the way Rob keeps phrasing it makes it sound like that they aren't releasing any more singles until after the album drops by "ttouring based off of this single to build hype for the album."
Either way, August 28th!

"Trust You" seems to be doing very well so far on HOT AC Radio. The problem is that this is what I usually see from HOT AC acts, or at least some of them is they take off getting big gains, only to slow down out of nowhere, and then drop. Let's hope that I'm wrong in this case.

I believe that's what we call in this decade as a "Colbie Callait".
Seriously, tomorrow is huge, if the bullet stays even close to the same, this will end up being a big hit. I am starting to hear a lot of positive feedback about it as well.

Still holding on to a healthy bullet in it's second week. This song should be fine and keep trucking its way up on Hot AC Chart the next 6 weeks. I assume they will really put heavy promotion into it in about a month. I think we could be looking at a big hit. A summer with Clarkson and Thomas back in the Top 5 for Hot AC would be great.

Another observation, this is in Top 5 in movers on the Hot AC chart, and still not even played at 50+ stations, so I'm not sure if it is a lack of promotion or what, but considering it is only at about 50% of the format with those numbers, and holding them, that's a good sign. Heard it on the radio for the first time, and coming from someone who said "they hated it", it sounded really good on the radio, different.

I heard this for the first time on my local station today. I don't know if it will be a hit or not but it sounded great on the station I listen to. :)

I'm glad you like One Shot. I think this is the one he did with the American Authors' writers? I'm not going to listen to any more new songs though until the album comes out. I want most of the album to be a surprise plus I think I like hearing the recorded version first with all of a song's bells and whistles. :|
