This should break Top 20 next week without being on about 30% of the panel, things are looking good and bullet continues to grow.

Is there any news on a music video coming out for "Trust You"? They filmed it a couple weeks ago, it's not out yet though

You know I would say this song is off to a great start for Rob if it's iTunes position weren't so horrible (1100?). Of course, AI is still just 6.7 million. That's pocket change when you look at AI for the big songs on iTunes so it's all relevant. IF, and that's a big if, this manages to make the top 10 on HotAC, I wonder if Atlantic Records will push it at all to Pop. They did not for She's So Mean so I guess the last song Rob has been associated with that did well on Pop was How Far We've Come.

A few things:
1. Is this even pushed yet right now? Any promotion at all? Doesn't seem like it.
2. I think they waiting to send the video to next month, I'm sure VH1 will play it
3. I'm pretty sure She's So Mean had a radio deal and went to #35 on CHR Pop early. I don't think they have put any money into a second single for Rob since This Is How A Heart Breaks, right?

No Brakes, I think you may be right about She's So Mean. I do think the Cumulus pop stations added the song. I've had this discussion before - the owner or program manager of the Cumulus pop stations likes Rob and has done well by him in the past (at least that's what the poster I had the conversation with years ago told me - LOL). But How Far We've Come was definitely the last big song he or MB20 had on Pop. Again, I don't really follow the charts but I think HFWC peaked at #11 on the Billboard Hot 100 back when I think that chart was pretty much based on radio play so I know it did well on Pop.
Does anyone have the chart peak of HFWC on pop and then these songs?
Her Diamonds Someday - BTW, one of Rob's best pop songs Mockingbird (no video was made for this song so it wasn't really even pushed to HotAC)
She's So Mean Overjoyed - I doubt this charted on Pop Our Song - again, no video
Looking back I guess Rob/MB20 have only had two big hits (Hot AC and Pop) since Unwell from their third album way back in 2002. Those two songs would be Lonely No More and HFWC.

A few things: 1. Is this even pushed yet right now? Any promotion at all? Doesn't seem like it. I don't think so. They did have an iTunes ad on the main page for a full week when the song came out and Rob has a lyric video. Based on one of those interviews I read, he literally decided it was time to tour and went with dates for the tour. I'm going to say Rob thought the album was coming out in the spring and set up a summer tour to promote it. Then (for reasons we don't know) the album was pushed back to Aug 28 but the tour stayed as planned. So I do think he'll have Trust You on radio for two full months before he starts promoting the single after the tour is over in mid-August. Kind of a messed up album roll out. I just hope the album can sell 25K-35k in the first week. That would be in line with other male artists right now that aren't named Ed or Sam. :)

Thanks guys for those chart numbers. I need to write them down myself so I have them. I had forgotten that Her Diamonds and Someday had hit #1 on Hot AC. They didn't stay there long and probably had lower AI than the more upbeat #1's but they did get to the peak. :)

#20 Rolling. Pretty strong considering there has been hardly any promo, no late night TV gigs, and not even on half the panel. Considering he isn't a talent show host or judge and doesn't license his songs for commercial use, is rarely seen on television at all, this guy has a pretty good track record of doing fairly well with fairly little effort. I'd hate to think what his chart numbers would be if he was judging The Voice, coming out with a men's line of clothes at Kohl's or lending his name to a cologne campaign. Adam Levine would be eating his dust.

Rob is obviously happy with where he is. I hear the same thing from Kelly Clarkson's fans....being the biggest pop star isn't what she wanted either. I'm sure it takes a lot of work to stay on top (unless you are Taylor Swift and she is STILL everywhere). LOL! And poor Rob...was just reading his tweets about having to cancel his show last night because he had no voice from an allergy attack. I hope for his sake he can quit smoking sooner rather than later.

I was an MB20/Rob fan for as long as I can remember and his voice certainly isn't what it used to be. Yes he's been a heavy smoker for a long time and I know it will catch up with him or his career. Smoking and singing are not a good combo.

In this interview Rob said either the next single is going to be "I Think We'd Feel Good Together" or "Hold On Forever"

Rob sounded great in Nashville last year so I have to disagree about his voice not being what it has been. When's the last time you saw him live?
Thanks for posting that interview. Interesting responses - Rob is a big My Morning Jacket fan. I've caught on to that before in things he has said. Interesting choices for second single. I personally would go with a non-ballad. I guess that decision will partly depend on how Trust You ends up doing.

Fact : I was an MB20 fan from their hayday when it all started, I've also seen them 7x in concert plus Rob on his 1st solo tour, so no I'm not an amateur fan, but I respect your opinion but disgaree with it :)

#17 and rising! Listen to him on Parade, I Will or Sleeping At the Wheel (even live) and tell me his voice has not improved. Last time I saw him the difference in power, timbre and tone between his voice and his opener (Goo Goo Dolls)was off the charts. And Rzeznik has a pretty good voice.

Would it kill him to smile on stage every once in a while? Jon Reznick's voice is shot in comparison, but the Goos show was much more fun.

What show did you see? Rzeznik barely moved when I saw him. He looks like he's had so much plastic surgery his face would crack if he emoted. Thomas, on the other hand, was dancing all over the stage, making jokes, laughing, making eye contact with the audience, goofing around with his band, reaching down and high fiving the front rows. I have never heard anyone say he was dull, even people who weren't big fans of his music.

Oh well, we all have our favorites. Every artist has people who used to be fans or didn't like a show but I put Rob's showmanship up there with the very best I've seen over the years. Back to the song....nice to see it still gaining. Video maybe next week.....?

Well, this is pretty simple. I LOVE the video. It really gives the song that 80's pop vibe I think they were going after. And Rob looks great....no complaints on that video at all. Great job by Phil Harder.
Edit - Well, it's about an hour later from my initial viewing and I've watched it a few more times. ;) It gets better and better with each viewing. Really excellent. This song and video sure look like a hit to me. Let's see what Atlantic Records can do to get this song out there. I wish Rob would consider product placement in an ad.

New song called "Hold On Forever" is available on iTunes now, alongside the pre-order of the album.

Well you're in the minority so far. The reviews I read over on yahoo called it "garbage" and another person said she's been a lifelong fan but can't follow him down this path. I hope people will still give this album a chance even if they don't like Trust You. I really like "Hold On Forever". Reminds me of "Ever The Same", which also occupied the #3 spot on his first album.

Well, I think Rob's a gamer and did what he wanted to do. I honestly love the new song and I think it is very, very Rob solo. I don't think people who like Matchbox Twenty have to like Rob solo. Many haven't since day one. I like Trust You a lot better than most of North (including some of Rob's songs on there). If his album fails, then at least he did what he wanted. Like I said earlier, I think this is his last pop record so he's going out with guns blaring. Good for him!
Oh yeah, I'm sure releasing Hold On right now was very strategic by his label. I haven't heard the album version of this song but based off your description that it sounds like Ever The Same this is the song for the people who love ballad Rob. Nothing wrong with that. You do want a few original fans to at least check out the album. Rob's had tons of haters from day one. I'm sure the reaction from some from Trust You is no surprise to him....they could smell that one coming a mile away. Those people can just follow Kyle Cook then. His stuff sounds very much like mainstream singer/songwriter stuff. I've heard one song that I might even like (not the biggest fan of this guy's writing - his lyrics are just good - nothing very unique but he should be able to attract some Matchbox Twenty/Kyle fans with it. His duo may interest me more than his solo stuff, actually. But anyway, he's going to make the type of music that Matchbox Twenty fans won't find any fault with.
Oh by the way, I bet a good deal of those mean comments are from the same people who were all over iTunes and facebook with the same negative comments when Trust You came out. Some people have seemed personally offended that Rob would release something like this. Again, people...don't like it, don't listen.

idolman88 - I don't know how you can say 3 comments on the yahoo board make anyone who thinks this is a good video "in the minority." Search @thisisrobthomas on twitter or look at his facebook page and you'll see tons of positive reactions. I've had Hold On Forever stuck in my head since I downloaded it, and of the new songs I have heard, it's at the bottom of my list. Hoping they release #1 track as the next single instead.

I think Hold On was released to calm the fans that lost faith in Rob when Trust You came out. I have a feeling I Think We'd Feel Good Together is going to be released later this month or next.

Kyle - I really don't think they'll come out with a new single this summer. Trust You is looking to have a good shot at top 10 on HotAC. She's So Mean only peaked at #6? and they held on to that single for a long time. Rob isn't Katy Perry where 5 singles are going to be released. It takes a lot of money to send a song to radio and I think this is doing well enough that Atlantic will be content. I could be wrong but I've followed these boards for a while now for more artists than just Rob and without the big pop hit - multiple quickly released singles don't happen. Now, if this doesn't hit and the album is out of the top 100 in a month or so...I could see a ballad come out for Christmas sooner maybe than planned. A ballad for Christmas time is probably the strategy any way. I just hope it performs better than Overjoyed. I never got into that one but I can see why it was released. MB20 had had success with that single approach before.
