Finally, some news about the single. I'm very excited about this. I kind of wish it wasn't the song he did with Ryan Tedder but I LOVED Counting Stars so I'm sure it will be great. I'm also assuming that Ryan was just a co-writer and not the producer. Matt Serletic is producing the album.
As far as Hot AC radio play goes, I think if it's a current sounding song that Rob may still get a lot of love on the first single at least to see how it goes. If it doesn't hit, the second single probably won't do much. So here's for that big hit!!!! Having said all that, Rob is now 43 and we know radio isn't kind to older musicians. It's just the way it is. So this should be interesting to see.

Do kinda wish he chose this to be the lead single, I can't wait to hear a studio version of this song.

Love the cover. Rob said the album has a very 80's vibe. I'm anxious to see if this song does. It will be interesting to see how he does on Hot AC. Lots of new male voices on Hot AC now so it could be a crowded field. He will be going up against the new AI winner who I think is going to get a big push from the guy that signed Taylor Swift.

I think he'll do just fine. He is the most successful male artist on the format. He's put out more hits than anyone on Hot AC. This one will be his 27th.

If I'm not mistaken, his last #1 on HOT AC radio was "Her Diamonds". Or was it "Someday"?

I'm always surprised that Johnny Rzeznik never put out a solo album. Don't GGD have more Top 10 hits over just MB20 not including Rob's solo stuff? I bet Johnny would have gotten several hits as well in the early 2000s. Maybe he still might?

I'm a huge fan of Rob and Matchbox Twenty, but as far as Ryan Tedder is concerned: I only seem to like the stuff he writes for his own band. All the other songs he writes for singers, have this samey melody that I really dislike. I mean why use Ryan at all? As far as I can remember Rob has done extremely well writing his own material.

I follow Rob on twitter like I think some others on this board do. I think anything we know about this album are things he has tweeted over the past year or so. From those tweets I think Rob has actually worked with some other folks besides Ryan. Here's my take - I think Rob is a great lyricist and has a gift for melody. However, he may think that he could occasionally use help with the music. Example - Ital Shur wrote the music for Smooth - Rob came in and wrote the lyrics and of course ended up singing on it. I think there are also some co-writers on This Is How A Heart Breaks - again, an example where he wrote the lyrics over a song/beat he was given. I also have a similar feeling about Ryan's work. It can be samey. So I hope this song is really Rob with maybe some modern beats from Ryan to help flush the music out. Of course, it could also be a song that they literally sat down in a room together and came up with from scratch.

A good songwriter knows when to collaborate. Even the greatest songwriters need the variation, knowledge and tips other songwriters can give to help spice up their technique.

John had 1 solo hit, "I'm Still Here (Jim's Theme)", which peaked at #10.

Very excited for this as I believe many others are as well. To hear it will be 80s influenced is no surprise at all, I feel like Mad Season by Matchbox Twenty was very, very 80s influenced, as well as Somethinf To Be... from there RT kind of went a different direction, which was decent, but I didn't enjoy as much. If this has the sound of the fore mentioned albums, that will be great as the latest M20 album just seemed to be a mess.
I think this will do well if he sticks to his sound because the Hot AC chart is just straight Pop, I hope this is very HOT AC 2000's sounding, or it will get lost.
Also, any insight to why Rob/M20 has been so successful in Australia? I always wondered why he was huge down there but struggled in the UK.

Quick teaser of the song, can't really tell much of at the moment. I think it is just the same sound clip repeated twice.
I really hope that isn't the chorus of the song

Rob just posted a sample online. hmm not sure how I feel. It isn't repeated twice, it is part of the chorus most likely

It isn't repeated twice, it is part of the chorus most likely The reason I think it is repeated twice is if you listen carefully you can hear a bit of a cut halfway through, but who knows I could be wrong. Thinking about it, I wonder if it is just a backing vocal and the teaser had the vocals taken out.

No way that's anything than a back vocal. It actually sounds like the few seconds before a usual OneRepublic chorus like Love Runs Out

Is that Ryan Tedder I hear in the background? I know he co-wrote the song. Sounds good so far

This already sounds like a combo of TIHAHB and Loves Run Out, definite Tedder influence

This sounds great after listening to that snippet. Sounds like something Rob would record. I hope this explodes on HOT AC and maybe go at least Top 20 on POP.
