This is a mid tempo ballad. Radio LOVES these kind of songs. But she is a woman on country radio. A mid tempo after a ballad we have never seen a female singer get away with that. I donthink radio could eat this song up given the success of Die A Happy Man so I think this might be a smart move. Let's not pretend like playing it safe has been working or anything lol It's a risk sure but a lot of females have been playing it safe and flopping so this move is something different and may actually work out in their favor.

I agree that taking risks can pay off. "Mayday" is a risk that I could easily see paying off and being a big hit. Then there are dumb risks like "Said No One Ever" that make no sense.

Next to "Village" this song is one of my favorites from the album. I think "Mayday" is a great choice as the second single...it's fresh and a solid song. Nothing on radio sounds like her right now. I'll admit I'm probably one of Cam's biggest fans on here...I've had her album on repeat since it came out and can't get enough of it. I'm also one of the few it seems that like "Want It All" which I wouldn't be surprised to see as a single. Looking forward to hearing this on the radio!

This is one of the songs I really liked when I listened to the album. The album is good, but I don't like it as well on first listen as I was hoping to. I love Cam though. Love her voice and seeing her live made me love her even more, so I plan on continuing to listen to the album on Apple Music and hopefully it grows on me as a whole.
I think "Mayday" is a good follow-up to "Burning House." It might be a bit risky, but Cam's sound is very distinctive so I'm not sure if there really was a 'safe' choice to go with. Many are saying they wanted an uptempo song, but this one isn't exactly slow. The beat makes it sound peppier than it actually is. This will either get ignored by radio because it's too far removed from what they're playing, or it's distinctiveness will end up being an asset. I also think there is crossover potential with this song, as well... maybe even moreso than with "Burning House"

When a yellow marketing scheme works. see TBP for when it doesn't.
I've been obsessed with this song since her album came out so I'm happy to see it being released as a single. I'm lousy predicting how anything will do on the charts, so I won't even attempt to do that. I just know that I like this song a lot.

I like this song quite a bit, but I view this as a high-risk low-reward release. Cam's got plenty of momentum right now, but the history of female newcomers following up their breakout hit isn't great. And it's not as if the more radio-friendly options from the album lacked Cam's personality and style (save for Want It All). I guess the one thing this song has going for it is just how beautiful Cam sounds singing it. Still, I have a hard time seeing this going to the top 10, though I sincerely hope I'm wrong.

Okay what kind of flawlessness is that single cover though? I'm fine with this being a single now if they're really going to go all-out for it to make sure it's a hit; I like that she's already got a big promo spot lined up with the Ellen performance, which is a promising start. I'm starting to feel just a little more optimistic, lol.

When a yellow marketing scheme works. see TBP for when it doesn't. It's sort of cosmically weird, isn't it, how both Cam and The Band Perry landed on yellow as an aesthetic motif? It is for me, anyway, because I think I said in the "My Mistake" thread that even though their vocal tones are very different, something about Cam's delivery, maybe the way she clips the ends of her phrases, made me think of Kimberly Perry. And then "Burning House" is a song that I could have imagined coming from early Band Perry. It's almost as if Cam came in to alleviate the pain of losing the Band Perry... I guess the one thing this song has going for it is just how beautiful Cam sounds singing it. I'm going to pass on trying to predict how "Mayday" is going to do because I have no idea. But this is what strikes me most about the song, too. Cam really does have such a lovely, warm and engaging voice. It's really nice to have two women who have excellent, distinctive voices (Cam and also Maren Morris) breaking through right now. I probably would have preferred "My Mistake" getting a second go, "Hungover on Heartache" and "Half-Broke Heart" as singles, but I do really like "Mayday" as well -- it's pretty catchy and the intensity of the beat is really striking. So here's hoping that it keeps Cam's momentum going.

Cam is pretty open/honest about how yellow is her favorite color and she prefers the color to appear often in her wardrobe and around her. I don't think is exactly a marketing ploy but just expressing her personality.

And then "Burning House" is a song that I could have imagined coming from early Band Perry. It's almost as if Cam came in to alleviate the pain of losing the Band Perry... I can definitely hear the similarities between Cam and Kimberly, but for me it's funny that you compare the two, because I absolutely adore everything about Cam and her voice, whereas I'm probably one of the few on Pulse who doesn't like the bulk of The Band Perry's music (even prior to their switch to their new "sound") mostly because of Kimberly's voice. So yeah, my brain doesn't make sense. I love everything about Cam and her voice, but I've never been a fan of the way Kimberly Perry sings. Makes sense, right? Lol. I've liked a few TBP songs, but the only singles of theirs that I still enjoy are "If I Die Young" and "Postcard From Paris". I don't really enjoy listening to any of the others. Anyway, for me Cam is 3/3 when it comes to single releases, and although I have yet to buy her album (planning on it), I enjoyed it quite a bit on my first listen through. I just need to be able to spend some more time with it. I have already downloaded "Mayday" though and given it several listens. I prefer "Burning House", but not by much. "Mayday" is another fantastic track, and while it doesn't strike me as a 'conventional' choice for a country radio single, it somehow still comes across as radio-friendly to my ears, and without sacrificing any quality to do so. That seems to be pretty difficult for a lot of artists to do -- balance radio-friendliness with quality -- but Cam has done so here, and with flying colors. I really like the drums and the 'driving' feel of the beat, and the background vocals sound great, too. And of course Cam's vocal performance is stunning. One thing's for sure -- no one else on country radio sounds like Cam...which makes it a little harder to predict how this will do, since the country radio charts can often be so unpredictable (some songs that sound like smash hits barely scrape the bottom of the chart, and then there are some really generic songs that don't sell all that much but still somehow go top 10 or #1). I think Cam has quite a bit of momentum though -- to me it feels like she has more momentum than Jana Kramer, Danielle Bradbery, Cassadee Pope, RaeLynn, and even Kelsea Ballerini had after their first-ever top 20 hits -- so hopefully that'll help carry this one up the charts. A Grammy win for "Burning House" in the Best Country Solo Performance category would be nice/could boost her momentum even more (but I'm not sure if she can beat out Stapleton's "Traveller"). I'd like to believe that "Burning House" would have been a hit even without the major assist from On The Verge, but the hard truth is that I don't think it would have. I guess we'll never know. I think "Mayday" can be a hit though, and I hope I'm right.

I am absolutely in love with this song. I might even like it more than "Burning House". The acoustic based production is just fantastic, the melody is ridiculously catchy, it's well written, and Cam just sounds beautiful on it.
I'm cautiously optimistic that this will be a hit, as it is fairly radio friendly and accessible.

It sounds like a Tracy Chapman song. That's not a bad thing and I see it doing well. But that is who it reminds me of. Almost to the point I could've sworn I've heard the track before with different lyrics. Burning House definitely gave me a Tracy Chapman folkie-leaning vibe. Something in Cam's vocal tone among other things, I guess.

That Ellen performance was impeccable! It would be awesome if she could get a slot to sing "Burning House" on the ACMs. She seems to be a great live performer from what little I've seen. <3

I saw Cam perform when she opened for Little Big Town in October. It was just her vocals and two acoustic guitars and she was absolutely wonderful! She performed several songs. I would have loved to have seen her more than once, but Marren Morris opened the other two LBT shows I saw that month. She was really good too, though! Drake White was the main opener for all the shows. Cam has a gorgeous voice and is extremely talented. The Ellen performance was flawless!

This is phenomenal song. The hook for me is the oh-oh-oh at the end of each verse. She sounds stellar on it too.

It looks like "Mayday" was the second most added song on Mediabase this week with 41 adds on impact day.

She is absolutely incredible live. Her voice is the reason she shines on stage. The stories behind the songs and her bubbly personality only add to the live experience. I HIGHLY recommend grabbing tickets when she is in your area. As for the Ellen performance, I don't know why I am just seeing it now, but holy cow - AMAZING! I really wish Cam the best in her career. I hope that she is here to stay and continues to make music like what she has give us thus far.
